Passing the time in line

In the spirit of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" (longer lines are the new reality!) I was wondering if folks have any clever tips on making the waits more tolerable?

For example, my family took turns playing a game on my iPhone (Monopoly)...and of course some lines are interactive so it's less important for those.

Interested to hear what people have to say!

we play heads up on our phones. we have a book on hidden mickeys in the parks that we ordered from Amazon. sometimes we'll bring books with the idea of using that time as quiet time, but that doesn't happen often

break wind and blame it someone elses child.....keeps me laughing for days

Get as close as possible to the party in front of you, kick them, nudge them, breathe on them; you get the point.

My kids always have string to play string games and usually a yoyo (they are careful). We also have a tiny set of Barrel Full of Monkeys.

Nintendo 3DS local multiplayer games! Plus some of the streetpass hits we get on our systems are hilarious.

We only aggressively make out if people stand way too close to our personal space (for some reason this usually gets people to back off, hah!).

We don't play games on our phones because we prefer to save our batteries for taking pictures.

Don't get into them in the first place. We won't get into a line showing more than 20-30 minutes.

my boyfriend and i quiz each other on the US State capitals. Next trip we plan on studying up on the capitals of other countries and quizzing each other on that too.

We bought the book "things to do in line" and it has neat things and trivia about each ride to read while in line. It was about $10 from Amazon and is really neat.

Incredible - there's actually a book written on this?? That's great!

I agree with others too - doing anything strange or weird in line is a blast ;)

thinking about quizzes - i should have played the alphabet game with my kids!

We were in a long line a few years ago for Forbidden Journey at Universal. It was a part of the line that had a lot of back and forth switchbacks (greenhouse portion of the line for those that have been there). We started a wave in the line. Took a couple of minutes to get it going, but we eventually had a significant portion of the line we could see doing it. Only did it for a few minutes before the line moved enough to break it up, but it entertained a pretty big group of us for a short time anyway.

I would not mind lines at all if they could come up with a way to sit down. I would take it even if it was just a continues bench that I had to get up and move down. Better would be some sort of moving chair.
