Party of 5's First family trip to WDW! Just back from POR 6/16 *update 8/13 thoughts

OMG that was the first time we have ever seen him and he was AWESOME!!!

What a show! We went with friends who see him EVERY tour.

WE had a fun except for the first 2 hours sitting in the pouring rain! WE came prepared though (our Disney ponchos took care of us) We sat out in the pouring rain listening to Gary ALLEN ( the sitting here watching airplane song) HE was GREAT he sang for an hour standing and jumping around in the rain!
I can only imagaine how many guitars he ruined!

We also sat through Lee Ann Rimes in the rain, but it had started to stop raining by the time she was half through. Then it cleared up and was nice, we saw Sammy Hager (he is a trip) Brooks and Dunn and of course the best Kenny Chesney...

He surprised everyone half way through and brought out Jennifer Nettles from SugarLand and she sang her song! It was great and we had great seats but none of us were drunk, yet everyone around seemed to be, so that got old kindof quick.. We had these young 20 something girls (if that) behind us that would not stop screaming and we thought a few times they were filming for girls gone wild a few times! OF course the DH's were waiting for that! haha

it was a late night tho, didn't get home until after 1.. today DH flew up to get the kiddos to bring back tomorrow.... I have 24 hours left of alone time!

Thanks for asking Jackie!!:)

Sounds like you had a fabulous time except for the rain and the drunks!

Was it at that new amphitheater over in Gwinett? How was that?

Enjoy your last 24 hours of alone time!!!

Great installment and pics! Love Goofy's, such great treats to be made!

And I can't wait to see Fantasmic! We always miss it, my kids are such early to bedders, we never seem to make it.

Allyson :)

Friday June 13th, Day 6

We had a very early ADR @ Tusker House this morning at 8:00 am. When I made the ADR this day was not an EMH morning, some where along the way they added this day to an EMH morning, so I was a little nervous about going with the crowds etc..

We woke up around 6:30 and got out to the bus stop by 7:15 the plus since it was an EMH there was a bus right away. We ended up pulling into AK about 7:40, the crowds were already forming.
100_1848.jpg

Since our ADR was for 8:00 they will not let you in any earlier on an EMH day, so they started letting everyone into the gates about 7:50 or so we got our rental and worked our way up to where the crowds had stopped for the morning welcome show. We couldn’t see much but did see Mickey by the tree.

This was our first time to Animal Kingdom so we were all very excited as to what was ahead, we were also very flexible with the days plans. We figured we would stay as long as we could handle it and then leave for our rest and return in the pm to Ak again or maybe do HS (since we all had stuff we wanted to still do) or just hang out at the hotel.

We also had an ADR for Yak and Yeti in the afternoon if we desire to keep it.
Before this was scheduled as an EMH my dilemma was do I get FP first for the safari since we are right there (makes the most sense to me) or trek over to EE to get them with everyone else after our breakfast. But since this became an EMH , it was an easy solution to solve, as Dh was checking us in to Tusker house I ran over to the Safari and got FP for later and our next set of FP would be available as soon as we finished breakfast!

The decorations at Tusker House are really cool, it is big inside and pretty spread out we were in a room in the back. Our waiter came over and explained everything and said we had plenty of time to go get some food before they would come around. He brought us some juice , very yummy my kids surprisingly didn’t like it, but they aren’t big juice drinkers.

We got some food, there seemed to be a lot to choose from, I got some fruit and of course I had to have one of those yummy donuts (however they weren’t that fresh)some eggs , sausage and Mickey waffles. It was all good, but you really can’t screw up breakfast food IMHO..

Once the Characters started to come around, it was very fast and to be honest they really didn’t spend a lot of time or interaction with the kids. I was alittle disappointed but still worth it b/c it was neat to get to see Daisy and Donald and Goofy is Dh favorite.

So after breakfast we headed towards Dinoland with a brief stop at EE 2 pick up 2 FP. Over at Dinoland they rode TriceraTop spin , while I went and got 3 FP for Dinosaur. Then Dh took Lauren and Joey on Primeval Whirl while I took Emma back on Triceratops Spin again.

100_1863.jpg

We then headed back over to Safari to use our FP, the standby line looked long already. It took us about 15 min to get through the FP line. This was so neat, we saw lots of animals got some pictures of a few..

100_1871.jpg

We had a little road block for a few minutes by this fellow.

100_1873.jpg

We all enjoyed this little “tour” after our Safari we had another FP opportunity to we headed toward Kali to get some FP, and Emma would be able to ride this with us! YEAH!!! We decided we really wanted to see Festival of the Lion King show @ 11:30 so we headed that way, everything here seems so spread out! And sooo HOT!!!

We waited in line for about 20 min or so before we were able to head inside and wait some more… OMG this show is amazing! This is Broadway caliber quality! I didn’t take any pictures b/c I was so in awe of everything!
Little Emma feel asleep in my lap towards the end, she was tuckered out from the heat and getting up so early and the late night before.

If anyone is reading this and hasn’t seen FOTLK you MUST see it!

So afterwards we wanted to try out Expedition Everest, on our way we stopped again to pick up more FP for Kali b/c I was guessing the kids would love it so much they would want to do it 2x. The standby line for EE was pretty long and the return time for EE was after 4 o’clock by this time now.

Dh and Joey went first while Emma, Lauren and I waited. This was the only sort of rude CM we encountered all week, he would not give me the child swap but insisted he had to give it to DH, who was right behind me, whatever no big deal. They came off and said they loved it! But Joey still said ToT and RnR was his favorites but that this was great too..

So here is where I am glad I listened to Dh, I was trying to convince them to head over to Dinosaur next, Dh said that me and Lauren should just ride now since we are here so we don’t have to come back . The wait wasn’t that long at all, so I agreed and Lauren and I were off, the line did move quick b/c I didn’t even get a chance to really look around the waiting area etc.. before we knew it we were next in line to board! I tried to take a picture but didn’t turn out to good.. This ride is awesome! But I have to agree with Joey that RnR is my favorite by far and ToT was a close second.. This was great though…

Tried to take a picture of me and Lauren.
100_1878.jpg

So after that we headed back over to Dinoland to do Dinosaur, I was very excited for this one! Dh took Lauren and Joey first (don’t know how that happened that he got to go first 2x ha-ha) So Emma and I went and waited by the exit under the cover where all the benches are. This ride seemed to take forever as far as waiting goes…. But soon they were standing in front of us, saying how awesome that was, but it was kind of scary. They said Emma would have been really scared. So my turn is next to go with Lauren and Joey, we got the front row! This ride is soo cool! This has just become one of my favorites here! Tried to take a picture of us too, Lauren is buried in my lap..

100_1879.jpg

We decide we better go use our FP for Kali, the weather is starting to look alittle dark and we need to decide if we want to keep our ADR’s for Yak and Yeti.

On way over to Kali River we pass by EE where I notice the ride is down! (this is where I was very glad I listened to dh about riding it before) this is also where we discovered we didn’t have our backpack with us! Yikes!!!
We quickly discovered we left at back at Dinosaur… Dh treks ALL the way back over there and meets back up with us in front of Kali. Yeah the backpack was just where we left it! Thank goodness!
So we get in the FP line for Kali and Emma needs to be measured and put the bracelet etc.. I had No Idea why they were doing that until we boarded by the way.. We saw a lot of people coming off that were REALLY wet! I didn’t want to get drenched , and hoped for the best! I sat next to Emma with Dh and Joey together and Lauren and another family. The other mother and father got it REALLy bad! Emma and I got it alittle, and DH and Joey hardly got it at all!

As soon as we got off the kids knew we had the other set of FP and wanted to ride again!~ So we went through the line again and got back on,we sat the same way except that DH sat with Lauren this time while Joey sat with another little boy and family.

Emma and I got it alittle more this time, but the people sitting in the other seats got it bad again.. DH lucks out again with not much and Joey got pretty wet too.

So we are all alittle wet and decide we don’t want to sit in an A/C sit down restaurant and decide to try Yak and Yeti counter service instead and hope that the rain doesn’t come… but it is starting to get windy and dark! We DO NOT want a repeat from Tuesday thank you!

They go and find a table outside while I go and order our food, I wanted to try the egg rolls since everyone seems to rave about them, We had the beef broccoli and the orange chicken thing and fried rice to split. I have to say that this is no different than your average mall counter food, the egg rolls were nothing special nor was the rice the chicken and beef were good, but what you would expect from your mall courtyard IMHO… I was glad we xlnd our ADR if this is the same food upstairs but since reading others reviews on the sit down meal , it seems like it is different and now I am a little sad we skipped it.

After lunch we decided we had enough of AK and wanted to get out of there if this rain was coming…It started sprinkling on our way out to the bus, but never did rain to my knowledge.

So which bus did we catch?? Do we go back to the hotel or to another park??

Lovely day and great use of FP's, how cool that the Rhinos went in front of your jeep, a bit scary though!

We still haven't braved Dinosaur, my girls were scared on ITTBAB :rotfl:

I am a huge fan of the Festival of the Lion King, it's one of my favorite things in WDW! Isn't it amazing?????:thumbsup2

from ealier in the week at HS

I am trying to decide if I want to try and do one of those photobooks through photopass... anyone try it? Were you happy with it??

Your TR is great! It seems like you've really figured out the Fast Passes and Child Swaps. Any advice for me? We'll be going in September and I have a 3 and 1 year old.

Sorry that your AK day became an extra hour day... especially with that ever so great morning breakfast. I think that Daisy is so cute in her jungle trek gear. Glad you rode EE when you did...every now and then DH know best:rotfl2:

Sorry about Y and Y CS.. good to know though.

I love the picture of the kids in front of the dino cutout- too cute!

Cannot wait to see where you all head!

The photopass pictures are fun... do share! I wish we would have joined a swap, oh well! We did last trip and I just did not get around to it this trip.

Enjoy those last few kid free hours...I am here with my two while DH is gone... and I would love a 24 hour hiatus!

GREAT UPDATE!! Sorry that AK turned into an EMH that stinks! Seems like you made the best of it though! I can't wait to go on Kali with the boys, they've never been and it seems like such fun!:goodvibes

Hey Annette!!! Sounds like you and your hubby have had a nice little break from the kiddos!! What a special treat! I am glad you enjoyed your concert even through the rain!!!

What a great update! If you ever have CS at AK again, I HIGHLY recommend Flame Tree Barbecue--great food--you won't believe it is CS! Looks like you guys did a good job of tackling AK!! I agree with you that that place is too spread out and ALWAYS HOT!!! EVEN in November we were sweltering! Looking forward to more soon!

Fun AK update!!! Your pictures with the characters turned out really great!!! I love Dinosaur and Everest, too -- those are definitely on my top rides list! Glad to know we didn't miss anything with the Yak and Yeti CS! Your photopass pics turned out really well, too! I love the AK one with Simba in it!

Can't wait to find out if you head to another park or back to the hotel! popcorn::

Thanks! I think alot will depend if your 3 yr old is tall enough and will even want to ride some of the " bigger" rides otherwise, to be honest you really don't need the child swap if you and Dh get FP for your selfs..

However, if you wanted to get double or triple the FP at one time, Your Dh could get a FP for something, you could a FP for something and 3yr ticket get a FP for something, then use the child swaps for the other parent to do the ride. But unless the rides are close together like Splash and BTMRR you would be doing alot of running around to do it that way. It does take alot of time to do the swap unless you plan on coming back later in the day to use it IMHO. I probably just really confused you so I am sorry... haha

Thanks so much! yep the kids are home now, all back to normal. I think we will try and make this a yearly thing, they also had a blast with their Aunts..

Kali was alot of fun, be prepared to get wet!

The concert was great! I did want to try Flame tree too, but had heard such good things about Y and Y .. I would like to try the sit down next time, don't think I would go back to the CS again..

Nope didn't miss a thing at the CS for Y and Y.. I know I love that one with Simba too, it was a funny story too.. Emma would NOT smile at all and we must have tried to take a million pictures. The Photo lady finally came up and whispered something in her ear and whola that was the next picture she took!
yes stay tuned... :)

Friday June 13th, Day 6 part 2

So which bus did we catch?? Do we go back to the hotel or to another park??

Well we decided since we only had 2 more full days left after today, that we would do “commando style” We caught a bus to HS!! We all had more stuff we wanted to try and do! Plus we thought it would be neat to check out the actually Star Wars Weekend. The rain never did materialize, thank goodness.

I think we walked into HS around 4 or so, got our rental stroller and headed toward the “board” with the FP times etc… Yep of course TSM all gone for the day . We were all alittle sad to know we wouldn’t be riding that again this trip. However, RnR and ToT were still available, So we headed that way to get our usually combinations of FP for ToT and RnR. The return time wasn’t until after 7:30. So we headed over the Indiana Jones Stunt show for the 5:15 show. On the way over we passed Star Tours and couldn’t believe it said a 5 min wait , we asked and they said yep.. So they went and did that first, before going to get in line at IJSS.

The line was pretty crowded, it didn’t look bad until you got in the queue and saw how it weaved around but we still managed to get pretty good seats toward the left on the sides. This was a pretty good show, the kids thought it was funny and cool. We thought it was funny with the guy who you thought was from the audience but really part of the show.

After the show we walked past a couple of meet and greets, we didn’t want to wait in any lines but saw some of the characters.

100_1881.jpg

Joey REALLY wanted to go try the Animators drawing Studio, the other night we didn’t get in the last show. So that was his only mission so to speak. Dh took Lauren and Joey to do that, while I took Emma to the last Playhouse Disney show @ 6:15. The show was very cute, I was glad the older ones didn’t come they would have been bored I think.

We had to wait about 20 min or so for them to come out of their drawing class. While we were waiting, I got Emma her first (and mine) ITSAKADOOZIE, yummy!!

100_1889.jpg

They ended up learning how to draw Tigger, Joey was bummed I guess he really wanted to draw Mickey, and he was mad that he thought Lauren’s picture was better, so after he stopped pouting we said lets head toward ToT!

That cheered him up quick. I took Lauren and Joey on ToT while Emma and and Dh waited. For some reason Dh said he was done doing ToT. My kids just LOVE this ride! Then we went to RnR while Dh took Joey. Emma and I were getting hungry (again the forgetting to stop for dinner thing was happening) so I went over to Catilina Eddies. Lauren wanted a salad while Emma got the apple slices and we split the best Muffaleta sandwich ever!
We saved some for the boys to have when they came back.

100_1890.jpg

Then it was my turn to take the kids on RnR, our plan was to get out of the park before it closed and go back and swim. We never did do ToT again, we left right after RnR and tried to get some family pictures.

image0848.jpg

Hardly any of our family pictures turned out, either Emma isn't smiling or Joey looks like a deer in head lights~lol

Once back at the hotel, we had some more snacks and the kids really wanted to check out our “quite” pool in the back. So we all went down for a bit while the kids and DH swam until about 10:30.

100_1896.jpg

sorry the pictures are so blurry...

When we turned on the news my DH was soo sad to learn of the passing of Tim Russert, he never missed Meet the Press. So he stayed up pretty late watching all the news coverage on that.

Up next our last day at Epcot and another Dis sighting do I finally get to see Illuminations??

Great update! DHS has such fun rides -- glad you got a chance to ride some more of them! :thumbsup2

We must have totally missed you at the Riverside pool on Friday -- Connor wanted to try it out so we headed over there Friday evening for a little bit so he could try it out. So close to running into each other...:(

Glad you got to enjoy some more fun at HS.... and that you did not forget dinner:rotfl2:

I think a dip in a pool at the end of a day is what makes vacation great!

yes bummer on almost seeing you all... I think Dh and I were really surprised on how much we all enjoyed DHS, I don't think Emma would say it was her favorite but she did enjoy TSM and VoTLM, BatB very much..
