Party of 5 seated with another party or not?

Hello, we are about to sail on the Wish. Yippee! We are a party of 5, my husband, myself, 2 daughters and my mom in two separate staterooms. We were supposed to be a party of 7 but due to family drama my sister and her boyfriend aren't going. Is it likely that Disney will seat us with another party at dinner? Usually we sail as a party of 4 and we've had good experiences sharing tables. In fact one family we met at dinner have become good friends and we now intentionally sail with them. I'm just not sure how my mom will do with it though, especially because the family drama is definitely a sore point. Should I be requesting a private table?

We were a party of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids in one stateroom) and had our own private table on the Wish. I had placed a request on the website beforehand. In all the dining restaurants we were seated at a table for four and one chair was added to the side. Not sure how to link two staterooms for a private table, but I think I saw that addressed on another thread.

If you want your party to sit alone it’s recommended you request this before the sailing. You can make this request by calling DCL, your TA and possibly on the app.

It’s not guaranteed either way but worth requesting.

I would not recommend waiting until you sail as table assignments would already have been made so it would be more challenging to change at that point.

Yes, you could be seated with another family. Some of the tables sit 8 and you could be paired with a family of 3 who have a daughter close in age to yours. You can request a private table. If you are at a table for 8, you could also have your mom sit at the end furthest away from the other family.

We’re Platinum and usually are a party of four. We have never requested it and maybe it just worked out that way but we’ve never shared a table.

We are a party of 3 and have been seated with a party of 5 several times. We've since started asking for our own table. I know they can't always make that happen, but so far we've been lucky. If you really want your own table, I'd put in a request.

Our family of 3 was seated with a family of 5 one cruise. If you want a private table, definitely request it or otherwise they are going to assume you are ok with sharing. And go to dining when onboard to confirm

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll chat with our travel party to decide what we want to do. I’m not sure I care about having a private table. My daughter became great friends with one of the kids at our table one cruise. They even go to each other’s birthday parties.

We were a party of 3 on a cruise (mom, dad, 19 year old DS). We were seated with a party of 5 (mom, adult daughter with infant son, 16 year old DS and 14 year old daughter). The only "connection" we could figure out was the 2 teenage sons.

We also were on a cruise as a party of 5 once, and we had our own table.

If you're worried about family drama popping up during dinner, it's probably a good idea to request a private table.

We're a party of 5 and except during the first covid sailings when everyone got private tables, and one time when we were concierge, we've always been sat with a party of 3 at a table for 8. They don't have tables specifically for 5, so they'd have to seat you at a table for 6 and leave one seat empty, and I think they try to avoid leaving seats empty especially on the wish where the dining rooms are always so full, and when a table for 6 can usually be filled by combining other smaller parties (e.g., three 2-person parties, or two 3-person parties).

We were a party of 5 in May and had a private table, but MIL requested it. (On the Magic)

One year I forgot to request a private table and there were only 3 of us instead of the usual 4 that travel. We were seated with a group of 5. That group happened to be my daughter's best friend from several of the past cruises. Disney automatically matched them/us for a table. This was when we were doing yearly NYE cruises and there were a bunch of us that keep repeating until it got outrageously expensive.

When I cruise with my sister and her kids we are a party of five. We have always been seated at a table with another party (usually a family of 3).
