PART TWO *December 2012 Roll Call* Holidays, FLE & MVMCP!! A very, merry thread!

I just have to share this here with people who will understand...

So, a good friend of mine called me yesterday for a little help with Disney. Turns out they are surprising their two boys and going to WDW Thanksgiving week. She is aware that it is going to be crowded BUT, here is the kicker... they only have 1 ADR for a 7 day trip! :scared1:

Needless to say I am going over to her house tomorrow for a little Disney Boot Camp. Hopefully she can find a couple of TS ADR's and then I am going to "school" her on CS.

Wish me and her luck! :faint:

Are they on the DDP or QSP? If DDP, they may have a hard time getting some ADR's for some of the restaurants. We're going 11/29-12/8 and I'm already finding out that some of our choices are not available. Of course, we're also going during Pop Warner week, so that may have something to do with no availability for us.

Good luck!

Haha. That's kinda what we are doing. Abby and I reached an understanding (for lack of a better word), where I'm making ADRs for all the meals I want (usually two per day, sometimes one, one day has three), but we're not planning what order we're doing rides or anything like that. Besides having our parks chosen and ADRs made, we're not doing any other planning.

Sorry, I didn't mean to overreact at you. I've seen a few threads on TPaS where people have friends who they find out are going to Disney without plans, and the things they say they're going to say to their friends make me worry that the friends will be scared of Disney. :/. I didn't think you'd do that, but when I saw "boot camp" I got a little worried.

LOL, my husband has become a believer in all of the planning and research I do but the one thing I can't do is plan to many of his meals. I mean I can't for the life of me understand why he can't plan when he is going to be hungry at WDW!:confused3

I didn't think you were overreacting and I know exactly what you mean. By bootcamp I mean am going to sit with her and go over her best options and help her with a general plan so that they can enjoy themselves and not worry about the crowds!

As a general rule, the menu changes come twice a year - before summer and after summer. Individual restaurants may make other changes, of course. But Disney restaurants don't really change that often. So the menus coming out now will generally be the ones we get for Dec.

Do you know how much of a turn-around-time there is between a restaurant changing their menu and Disney Dining updating their system/web site?

I called Disney Dining to ask about the recent change to Kona Cafe's menu and the CM I spoke with told me that she didn't see any changes. When she inquired about it, nothing was coming up :confused3. The changes are enough that it no longer appeals to us.

The turn around time on *all* the Disney website is very slow, sometimes weeks. I use this site, WDWInfo for dining menus. It shows that Kona Dinner was updated this month. Lunch and breakfast were updated in Aug.

We're exactly the same - we plan which park which day and our ADRs then we just wing it in between. That way, even though you do have a plan, it doesn't seem like it. If that makes sense.

Thanks. I really wish Disney would get on the ball and give the information regarding upcoming menu changes to the Dining department before changing the menu. Right now WDWInfo and allears.net seem to have more updated info compared to Disney.

I get you :-)
That is exactly how we do it. Sort of a no-plan within a plan. Or maybe a plan within randomness?

The verdict is in: Completely torn ACL with lateral and medial meniscus tears. Having ACL reconstruction with next week. Doc will either try to repair my meniscuses (or meniscusi? ROFL) or remove the torn parts depending on how bad it is when he sees it. He would rather try and salavge what he can to prevent problems with this knee in the future. Doctor seems really optomistic that I will be up and walking for Disney. I know I will be walking before then, but I am worried if I will have the stamina for Disney now. I am worried about how my knee will feel after 8 to 12 miles a day just 9 weeks our from surgery. I am taking the conservative route, and ordered a scooter to be delievered to our resort. Hubby thinks I am being a baby about all of this. :/

Well tell Hubby this *blows raspberry*

:teeth:

You are obviously apprehensive about how you will do after surgery in Disney and rightly so. Everything is unknown at the moment. Big hugs

So DH and I are renting a car for the first time for this trip. We are renting from the Walt Disney World Car Care Center. DH doesn't want to deal with getting a car and returning it to airport and would rather take the ME. Has anyone rented from the Car Care Center? Is it easy? I am just excited to have the option to drive to the parks rather than take the bus everywhere!

I could have typed this exact post!! We normally drive, but are flying this time and have been debating whether to rent one or not. It came up again tonight and I think we are going to. Ok so none of that was helpful to you. I have no answers, just the same questions as you. :rotfl2:

I think a scooter is a good idea!! You dont want to mess it up again after surgery and walking in Disney is not like walking in normal life. And that way you can enjoy Disney and not be worried about it. You can always just use it half the day or just for Epcot and AK, depending on how you are feeling. Glad you dont have to cancel completely.

Tell hubby to watch out. If something happens to him, he is going to want your help and sympathy.

HAHAHA :rotfl: No, it was very helpful!
I just feel so rushed during park close to hurry up and get to the bus and pray there isn't a mile long line. Will be nice to take our time leaving the park. Plus, even thought I love Disney food, I am excited to be able to get some Krispy Kreme! We don't have one here and I miss it so. If we rent a car, I can drive there the first day and have my fix :lovestruc

Yep. That long line at the end of the night is what DH is worried about. It is nice to know you will have a seat and can be as cool or warm as you need it to be. :thumbsup2

With all this talk of ADRs......we're on the regular DDP but because of a signature TS and the Candlelight Processional Package, we are ending up paying OOP for several of our TS meals.......do I have to link which one's I want to use our credits for or can we just decide when we're at our meals in WDW? I hadn't given this much thought before now.

IIRR when we were there last year, they brought us the bill and we either put our KTTW card in or cash as we also paid OOP for a couple of things. We didn't specify beforehand.

We have also gone over our credits. I did some number crunching - I used the menus and looked at what we would likely order and priced it out and it came to a little bit more than if we upgraded to DxDP (we had a free dining pin at the beginning of the year that we used).

They should ask at every meal if you are using the dining plan or not. So you can decide which ones are the better option to pay OOP.

In August we rented from Dollar using a city special. We chose to get the car at MCO and return it to the Wyndham by DTD. You could check the prices from Wyndham. It would be easy to take the bus to DTD to walk to get the car.
