Umm, wasn't 2010 the year where almost every state in the nation actually had a WHITE Christmas? I KNOW that's the year we got almost 4 feet of snow at the house Christmas Eve.............I'm not sure that's the year I'd be basing my packing list off of :confused3

I have a bunch of long slacks that roll up and clip to turn into capris. I'm bringing those and a couple pairs of jeans or cords in case it's really cold at night. And I figure if I "forget" to pack a sweatshirt that's a great excuse to buy one down there, right? :lmao:

Good point. Our winter was much worse that year too. I was just saying the weather is unpredictable. I didnt mean everyone should pack their winter coat and gloves.

And yes, that is my plan too. Ohh it's a little chilly, I need a sweatshirt. Oops, I didnt bring one. ::yes::

pixiedust: Sending tons of pixie dust your way! My older 1/2 sister had to have her gallbladder taken out a few years ago. Took them 45 minutes once they had her out, and her scar is maybe an inch and a half long, so if she does have to have it out, it isn't a big procedure at all. The doctor even asked her if she wanted to stay awake and watch them take it out :scared:

Um, I think I'd say no thanks! Don't need to see my insides thank you very much! :scared:

Hi everyone! Just a Sandy update....

since the storm is so big, we have already been getting the outerbands of rain and wind since yesterday and our power has already gone off 3 times since this morning. Thank goodness we have a generator!!! I have been cooking all morning because by tonight we will have no more power and the winds will be too strong by then to use the generator. Now it's just a wait and see thing.....

The worst of the storm should hit us by tonight/sometime during the night. I'm more worried about afterwards and how long it will take to get power again:(

I really wish it would just go out to sea and leave us all alone!!!

For anyone else in her projected path, please stay safe!!!

Just confirmed with my SIL that my niece now loves Minnie and the fairies, not so much the princesses anymore. Glad I did not order the Rapunzel art case yesterday. Will be making a purchase today. My bag now has 11 items, but I will narrow it down.

Good luck, and stay safe! They are calling for it to hit us Monday night, and I hope it has weakened by then.

That is great. That's what I hope for if she has to have it done. They say they'll do it laparoscopically. Do you mind sharing, it that how you had it done?

I had outpatient laparoscopic gallbladder removal too. I had it on a Tues, and back to work on Friday.

2nd best medical decision I ever made. We won't talk about the first one in mixed company. :)

All these regional sayings reminds me of where I am from - London - I am sure you have all heard of Cockney Rhyming Slang? Here's a few

Dustbin lids = kids
Whistle & Flute (whistle for short) = suit
Tom Foolery (Tom for short) = Jewelry; ex. "nice bit of Tom you have there"
Apples & Pears = Stairs
Butchers Hook = Look; ex. "Take a butchers at THAT" when you want someone to look at something
Dog & Bone = phone
Trouble & Strife = wife
Jack Jones = on your own ex. "I'm all on my Jack Jones"

Thats just a few off the top of my head .... and yes, we do use it although since living here, I only use it at home now.

I wish I could talk like that all the time... except I would look like an idiot.... I worked with this guy who was from the UK and would only see him occasionally and the things he said were hilarious!

Try living in New England where we have multiple sayings for the same thing. And it could be anything and any walk of life. Just look at trying to order lunch. Have you ever heard the expression that the Eskimos have 100 different words for snow? We have the same thing for sandwiches.

"Could I have a hoagie, sub, foot-long, grinder, hero, etc..."

When you start getting into clothes....... Whoooo hoooo hoooo... There could be fighting words involved if you use the wrong term.

And don't forget... In the English language, here in Boston, "R" is a movie rating, not a letter of the alphabet.

When I moved to NH I was very annoyed by this... Also very confused by a "bulkie" that doesn't sound appetizing to me at all! To me its a sub or hard roll....

:lmao: When I moved from New Bedford MA to Buffalo, NY my freshman English teacher used to make me stand up and say "I pahked the cah for a quatah" Funny for everyone except me.

When I moved to NH from NJ (6 years ago) they did something similar to me at work... Made me feel like a foreigner (in a fun way!) They seemed especially entertained by my interesting list of explicit phrases...

An hour and a half with nothing?? Where is everyone?? I know ksromack is out of service and discookiemonsta is in a hurricane. No one else has an excuse. No, work is not an excuse. :lmao:

I was driving!! I went grocery shopping 50 miles to the store! Yay! I also got pulled over because my inspection is over due.... I managed to get out of a ticket and a written warning!

LOL. I only saw the edited post and thought cybrkitn couldn't read, or just didnt think an extra party was good news. :rotfl2:

Hahaha I thought the same too!! I was like geeez someone is expecting a whole vat of pixiedust!!

Discookiemonster - how are ya all doing with the storm. Just read that it's hitting there today/tonight. Praying for safety

How about midterms? I just finished my math midterm - it took extra time because the fire alarm went off in the middle of it.

Thank you everyone!!! It's been extremely windy and we've had some rain. It is hit or miss with the rain usually where we live because we live on a small cay, which is only 2 miles long and a 1/4 mile wide! There are about 250 people that live here. I'm really surprised our power has been on for a while now since the last outage earlier this morning. The electrical company said they would shut the power off when winds got up to 40mph. The major problem comes after a hurricane when power lines are down and they have to come fix them.

I can't find one of my cats (the both stay outside most of the time, but I bring them inside during a storm) and I'm getting worried about her :confused3 Other than that, we are just inside, with the shutters down and bored out of our minds!!! With power we still manage to track the storm online and on cable, but once power goes out, it's horrible because we don't know anything. I remember one hurricane, a few years ago, ending up stalling over us and sitting on top of us for days. And now the weather channel isn't saying much about the Bahamas anymore because they are of course worried about where it will hit in the US later this week, which is understandable, but in the meantime, we don't know too many details. If it jogs a little to the east of us, it would be perfect because we would miss the worst of it. Ugh, not knowing is pure torture!!!

As long as I have power, I'll keep checking in with you all:)

Hmmm I would say an education is a valid excuse- please just don't make a habit of it! All this studying has left you pretty quiet lately!!

I was getting my hair did.... Now I'm making a list of things I need before Sandy decides to visit us.
