Good morning and Happy Halloween!! :wizard:

We could dress up for work today so I am an employee on casual friday. Or if that one doesn't fly I'll say I'm a blogger. Or a soccer mom. Or anything that allows me to wear jeans :lmao:

Hi all, I have been watching national news and the photos/video of Sandy. Horrible. Did anyone see mayor Cuomo say we have a 100-year flood every two years " Things are changing so drastically with our weather in general. It is weird to be thinking of planning a vacation when I see people without homes, etc.

I know, it is just awful. So much of the coast where I grew up in NJ is destroyed. I am so sad. I keep reminding myself that family & friends are safe, and it's just "stuff" but still :(

Tomorrow at this time, we shall only be one click away on the calendar for making December ADRs. :lmao:

And we are only 40 pages or so from PART FOUR!

Already?!

Btw, as of tomorrow, I can finally say that we will be going THIS month :woohoo:

You need to post pics too!

Here is the before and after from today. Kind of hard to see because it is short. I need to play with it and get used to it.

:thumbsup2 Looks great!

We're fine. But it was crazy how much water there was even just a few blocks from here. Still not sure if I can get to work tomorrow.

DH was just telling me that he read about a person living in Manhattan that in order to get to work, had to take a bus to Queens to get back into Manhattan.

LIRR is still closed and I've heard the subways are also down due to flooding. Nassau county (I live in Suffolk) has even closed all of their roadways.

I don't think I've ever heard of the LIRR being closed down like this, even when my father worked for them.

Great costume!! LOL :rotfl2:

DisneyDreamerMN---Love the hair!!!! You and Wedgie have me considering going shorter. Maybe not that dramatic, but shorter. :goodvibes

Love the Death Star as SSE picture!!!

Ok, I need to vent before bed or I'll toss and turn all night. I still might, but oh well. This afternoon I said something to my son out of frustration--something along the lines of not allowing him to go to Disney if he doesn't buckle down, write all of his homework down, and bring his supplies home. I said this in front of my husband, and now he is running with it. He is worried about what the teacher will say when I tell her we are taking the kids out for five days, and thinks she might hold DS back because of it (she can't). I spent all night on my touring plan, working right in front of DH. When I offer to show him the Disney Store package we got today, he says, "Well, that's if Q can go." I say"oh, he's going! We're fully paid!" DH tells me I am being stubborn , and that "it's only money." ONLY MONEY! It's thousands of dollars. If I have to homeschool the kid myself (which I have considered numerous times), WE ARE GOING! Ugh. Me and my big mouth. This is what makes me wish the trip was done with already. Or at least get my "talk with the teacher" over with already so we can quit worrying about it. My neighbor told me that her friend got a Disney Cruise approved as an educational trip by our principal, so maybe I should talk to her first. I'm so over this stress.

(In case you're wondering why I chose school time to go: we've been promising our DD for 3 years that we'd take her to WDW for her 7th birthday. Her birthday is Dec. 9th. Also, my husband and FIL do not do well in crowds, so Christmas break would be paralyzing for them)

 That sounds just like something I would do. In fact, I've don't something similar. DS is 10 and I'm still having to tell him to make sure he writes all of his homework down in his planner (the kids are required to have that starting in 3rd grade), bring all of it home and make sure he does all of it correctly. Oh, and I even have to remind him to make sure loose papers (i.e. math work) are in his folder and in his backpack ready to go.

the DISboards will put up the holiday setting so I can change my default to it? I've checked what they currently have and it's not there. It used to be available all year round.

My son's school won't let them out for Disney. If you go you'll get a letter stating your child was out for uneducated reasons and will receive no credit for any work due or any tests during the absence. People still do it, but his school district is hard about it. Good luck!!!

Well done. We're not allowed to wear jeans at all, but we are allowed to wear tennis shoes on Wednesdays. When I'm working in special ed., I'll even wear yoga pants (my only pants short enough for me to wear tennis shoes with).

I'm not a parent, so maybe I'm not justified in being upset about this, but I really believe family vacations are so important for many families (especially for families (like mine) who saved for years for the vacation). And to call Disney uneducational is pretty disappointing. I'm not sure I understand the rational behind the policy, especially if the student can make up the work.

I dont know what this is, but I want it. :confused3

ETA: Ok I think I see what you mean. Mine is set to default.

Thanks! It's more layered in the back.

Yay thats gonna be so easy to style then - I found a great styling putty you can use before or after you dry by Fruictus. Its in a little round green tub. CHeap and so easy to use (I have trouble with putties usually).

Did you wash it this morning yet? Wondering how you found it.

Our district will allow it, we did it in 09. My daughter had to keep a journal, do all her class work, pick something to research and write a report about, and do a presentation for the class - 3rd grade. She chose roller coasters. It was fun. To the OP, I talked to the teacher first, and together the teacher and I talked to the principal, and our absences were excused. I talked to them early though - as soon as I could.

They would still let me do it, but now that she is in Jr High I just can't do it. She missed three days early for her grandfathers funeral and she struggled for the rest of the nine weeks in honors math, and ended up with a high B average - which really disappointed her. So I feel like now we are limited to school breaks, but thats ok.

I'm lost. Someone wanna share the details?!

I am shopping today -but NOT at the Disney Store. Aeropostale has $20 off $80 today and I scooped up some long sleeve tshirts, a sweater and a new hoodie & jeans for my "tween" as these are the current "in" clothes (thankfully not to crazy $$ when they are on sale too)

Thank you!

Well when I woke up it was sticking up all over the place LOL
I did wash it and it felt weird that it did not take long.
I bought this spray texturizer thing last night, so I am going to try that for a few days and they maybe get the putty you found.

You are absolutely right. I called our County Education board as I wanted to ensure I got the correct info from the ones who make the rules and our County said that yes, I would most likely receive a letter saying tut, tut you had an unexcused absence because that's what the computer system generates HOWEVER, he said that a family trip to Disney at Christmas was priceless and something my child would remember forever whereas she won't remember any of her schoolwork from that day so he told us to go ahead and that he would email our Principal & Bronwyn's homeroom teacher letting them know he had cleared it.

Vent away hun, you're amongst peeps who understand!

Ok, so, my daughter is in 6th grade. She's a good girl and am blessed that I don't have some of the problems other Mums have with their pre-teen daughters. BUT homework .... OH .... EM .... GEE has always been a big problem. When she leaves school she shuts down and it has always been a battle. I say every year, this year will better .... yeah, right! She finds it hard to concentrate at home and her philosophy is "I've been at school all day!!!"

I've thrown the whole "you won't go to Disney" which, hands up, is terrible of me because I know I won't/can't follow it through but I say it through sheer frustration.

At the end of the day, 5 days is not going to be a deal breaker when it comes to school work. Collect his work ahead of time and make a plan, thats what we're doing.

We are taking our son out for 5 days as well. I have done it several times.

If you let the school know 30 days before the absence, they have the teacher put together all of the work you will be missing with a cover sheet that is basically a teaching plan. We have him work on it everyday, as well as in the plane on the way. The school policy is, if all work is completed on return to school, they don't even count the child absent.

I hope you can get your daughters teacher to put something together for her, so she doesn't feel behind when she returns. That way it's a win, win!

Good luck, don't feel bad. It's already hard enough to be a parent. :guilty:

I'm sorry, I knew the issue was with your son! That's what happens when I stay up late and get up early everyday, I need a VACATION! lol :duck:

Happy Halloween all, have a spooky day! :stir:
