So did anyone hear the foreboding music after I typed this?? Yep. I was laid off with 2 other people. :scared1: I was the only customer service person in my office and there are 4 others in Chicago, so they decided to consolidate. It was immediate, so good luck to whoever has to figure out what I was working on. :confused3
I get severance, basically my regular paychecks through the end of the year. I haven't talked to DH yet. He will freak out with his job mess and our trip!! Disney is already paid for, so I see no reason not to go, but I will definitely be staying at Pop. I bought Disney gift cards at Kroger to pay for most of the trip, so it's not like canceling will give me any real money.
I texted my friend who was laid off from this company last year and went to lunch with her. She starts a new job the week after Thanksgiving. It is a national company that is opening a new plant here. She is the HR manager. :) She goes to a plant in Indiana her first week to see how they do things and what she needs. Then she starts recruiting and hiring. So if there is any admin type of job, I will be her first hire. She was very excited about the timing of this because she was going to call me this week about it anyway. So it could work out very well. Fingers crossed.

Sorry Valgoof. But good for you to find as much silver lining as you can. Best of luck that you can get on with your friend's new company. Then you can really look at the bright side. You will be double dipping for the rest of the year (pay at the new company and severence from the old). Fingers crossed for you.

Sorry about the layoff :( That's good news about the potential new job though. Good luck. We'll all be pulling for you!

Hubby just popped in the room and said: "hey hun, did you manage to score us a BOG ressie? I know you wanted to go"

Me: no, but I kinda quit trying, since there has been NO availability and the menu isnt 'must do'

His response: since when is disney dining about FOOD - its experience and I KNOW you want to see inside of that building.

LOL he knows me so well. :rotfl2:
That's my thing as well, I kinda want to see the inside of the building and experience it, so I have planned that to be a lunch. I was so impressed with the CS lunch at Flo's V8 Cafe in Disneyland ... real plates, great food, it looks like Be Our Guest is very similar in quality for lunch, so I'm excited about that. If you cant score a dinner reservation, just do lunch there!

Speaking of Be Our Guest, our local high school, my alma mater was putting on Beauty and the Beast this last weekend, so a friend and I who met doing plays when we were in high school a few decades ago went to support them. Gaston was great, but the rest of it was kind of sad (the program really declined when our old teacher retired about 5 years back) ... still got me in the Disney mood a bit more though.

So I've ordered our Gatorland tickets and ordered our groceries. Nothing much left other than booking an airboat ride and studying the transportation routes a bit more. I'll be bugging y'all with questions about how to get from Point A to B ... the sticky on the transportation board I didn't find very helpful.

18 days til we arrive/17 days til our first flight! :hyper:

Valgoof......... that just totally stinks. I'm so sorry things are in such turmoil fr you right now. Fingers crossed that your friend finds a spot for you quickly.

Fingers crossed you can still take your December trip. Sounds like you're more than ready for a little getaway.

Hello,

Thought I'd add myself to the list of December Disney goers. December 10-13th we will be popping over for some family time and birthday celebrations. My husband unfortunately has to work both my son's birthday (Dec 7) and my birthday (Dec 1) this year, so we thought it would be a wonderful way to celebrate both all together! We are staying at the Port Orleans Riverside in a Royal Room. I've stayed at the FQ a couple of times, which I love! But, I am excited to check out Riverside.
We have also reservation for Spirit of Aloha Dinner show, which I am really looking forward to. We will be spending at least two days at Magic Kingdom and I am beyond enthused to see the New Fantasyland! What I would give for a reservation at Be Our Guest! We just recently planned this trip, so I will keep checking for cancellations. :D I've been to Magic Kingdom during the holiday celebrations once (15 years ago!) but I remember it being very special. Though I've been back many times since, just not during December. I can't wait!

We can go in at 4:00, with our MVMCP tickets? I thought not until 7:00.

If that's the case we may not use any ticket that day. We could have linner, (lunch+dinner) and head for the park at 4:00. This will make DH very happy. He will be able to spend half the day sitting around, pool or not, drinking beer. ::yes::

I told him yesterday, I'm so excited our trip is coming soon, how about you? He answered, why your just going to run me all over the place. :confused3 Who me, ha! :guilty:

Just wondering what everyone's best guess is to when the Dec park hours will be adjusted this month. I know park hours are never "final" but Im just wondering when they might adjust them again. thanks

Yep, you can get in with a party ticket at 4. :) The party starts at 7. :goodvibes

Welcome! :wave2:

I'm bringing my kit lens, my 50mm lens, and my 80-300 zoom. I probably won't bring the zoom all the time because I don't want to lug it around but if I can talk dh into sporting it....... :cool1:

We did good at the outlets Saturday. The sales were awesome plus I printed out a ton of coupons before we went. I went to Gap because I had a 40% off coupon and got 2 pair of jeans, a pair of pants and 4 shirts for $100. Also hit the Disney Store with my 25% coupon and got the boys Jammies and a few Christmas presents. They didn't have a ton of shirts and nothing that really excited me. So I may run to Old Navy today to see if our store has the Mickey shirt.

You got a lot of good stuff for the $$! I'm excited to get our things in the mail. Most all the order from Old Navy is for dh....he needed clothes, for sure. I finally ordered the 12x12" scrapbook from Disneystore. It's so pretty!

17 days here... Back to work today after having Thursday and Friday off with the stomach flu. I did get a lot of stuff done around the house this weekend and for the trip. Luckily it's slow at work now through the trip, so I will be DIS-ing a lot.

DH will be wearing the backpack with the LGMH, maybe I won't tell him anything and wait for someone to approach him...

:rotfl2: You gave me an idea! :rotfl2:
UG. I had a zillion things multi-quoted and the internet went out at work. It's back now (obviously), but I am not going back through the thread. Thanks for all the advice for my Plan B trip. :goodvibes I won't know anything until next Monday, maybe Friday. I didn't even give DH the options. DB had a concert last night. I left my house at 2:00 and got home at 10:00. DH didnt go with me, so we havent really even talked about it. I just told him I had spent the whole morning on here discussing it with you guys. Part me of wants to do the whole week at POR, but then the practical part knows it would be dumb to not take the free dining for part of the week. I know DH would not want to do a split stay. I would push for that more if it were the value first. I think AKL or POR-POP would just be too much of a letdown. And I dont know what will be available when I call to actually change it. So we will all have to wonder for a few more days. :rotfl2:

Good morning!! My boss' boss is coming in from the corporate office so it will be a long day.

Good evening, December Dis-ers.
So did anyone hear the foreboding music after I typed this?? Yep. I was laid off with 2 other people. :scared1: ....
Oh no! Good luck to you on finding a new job soon, and may I just add that your attitude is really admirable and I'm sure it will contribute to your finding a new job right away.:)

With all the computers and iPads in the room, I wouldn't even bother. Honestly, this is not something I worry much about even in regular hotels. I do usually put the stuff out of sight in a drawer. But if something were to get stolen, Disney would make it right.
We aren't that careful about it either (mostly just keep things out of sight) but I wouldn't count on Disney or any hotel making it right if something disappears. It's (legally) not their responsibility, unfortunately.
Of course, this is why DH likes me renting an ECV, so he can dump his very expensive (but heavy) DSLR in the basket!

Welcome! It's interesting that your son was born the same date as my dad (decades apart, of course!) .....Pearl Harbor Day. Do you ever tease him that it's a "date which will live in infamy?"

The guy who puts together the calendars at easy WDW said it should be mid-november. I'm eagerly awaiting that, too!

Hubby bought me the MM earrings when he was on a business trip to California many years ago. It's just the cubic zirconia, though, without the gold trim. I wear them all the time!

Question for all you POR lovers. Where is the dock for the DTD boat?

I'm sure someone already answered this but here's a map:

PortOrleansMap.jpg

"B" is the boat dock. Have you asked about vacancy at POFQ for the free dining?

Thanks for all the well wishes and good thoughts for a new job. DH freaked out as I predicted. It is just bad timing with him not sure what is happening at his job and the trip so close. He is a half empty glass kind of guy anyway. I am a "a half full glass is almost a full glass, so everyhing will be fine" kind of girl. :goodvibes I will be going to Disney with or without him. I think he will feel better about everything next week.

Thanks for the map. Nothing was available for the earlier week. I didnt ask about my current week. I need to just wait until I know when I am going. We will probably stay at Pop now, but I am still reading the POR thread. I have issues.

I keep telling DH to at least ask if they would make him switch his vacation, but he won't even do that. Then last night, he says he needs to check the calendar again, he just glanced at it the first time and *thought* he saw that someone had his week. :confused3 Doesnt he know he is stressing all of us out and we need facts!!!!!! :lmao:

Thanks. Saw the map, missed the word "marina". :goodvibes

And there's a marina at POFQ too, although they pick up at POR first.

I keep recommending people pack hockey/football jerseys. They are light, keep the heat in and block the wind great. Also, if it starts getting warm, they are easier to wrap around the waist or fold into a bag, than a sweatshirt or a coat.

I know hubby will bring his for sure and I already have my navy Blue's jersey packed :)

Well, not yet, He's 2. lol But, when I had him... I was kind of relieved that he wasn't born on Dec. 8th, since that it was the death of John Lennon... but then husband went and reminded me that Dec 7th was Pearl Harbor Day. Ohhh well.

I'm 10 pages behind (which was just from the last 10 hours or so)!

Here's what I did last night:

Then this is what I did today at work during my morning break. I used three sets of the battery operated lights from Target, an 8" grapevine wreath, and 2 4" grapevine wreaths. It looks better with the lights off :)

Oh, and this is my poochie. Max likes to sit on the breakfast bar stools and watch my every move.
