Does your dSLR fit in the safe in the room?

With all the computers and iPads in the room, I wouldn't even bother. Honestly, this is not something I worry much about even in regular hotels. I do usually put the stuff out of sight in a drawer. But if something were to get stolen, Disney would make it right.

So did anyone hear the foreboding music after I typed this?? Yep. I was laid off with 2 other people. :scared1: I was the only customer service person in my office and there are 4 others in Chicago, so they decided to consolidate. It was immediate, so good luck to whoever has to figure out what I was working on. :confused3
I get severance, basically my regular paychecks through the end of the year. I haven't talked to DH yet. He will freak out with his job mess and our trip!! Disney is already paid for, so I see no reason not to go, but I will definitely be staying at Pop. I bought Disney gift cards at Kroger to pay for most of the trip, so it's not like canceling will give me any real money.
I texted my friend who was laid off from this company last year and went to lunch with her. She starts a new job the week after Thanksgiving. It is a national company that is opening a new plant here. She is the HR manager. :) She goes to a plant in Indiana her first week to see how they do things and what she needs. Then she starts recruiting and hiring. So if there is any admin type of job, I will be her first hire. She was very excited about the timing of this because she was going to call me this week about it anyway. So it could work out very well. Fingers crossed.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry. :grouphug: At least there is promise of future job. You should be eligible for Unemployment too. I know I was when I was getting my severance, because it's not really considered a "paycheck".

I do put my laptop in a drawer, but hubby wanted to know about the dSLR in case I decided to take but didnt want to carry it one day. My camera gear bag is way more $$$ than my laptop!

good morning everyone!!

T-18 days!! (13 work days)
I'm slowly climbing the walls because DBF hasn't bought our tickets yet from UT... :scared:
Doesn't UT suggest 3 weeks because some times the lead times can be long? You may want to check before you order - with another holiday coming up....
As of right now, UT is saying they can get tickets to you by November 27. I just ordered my last tickets for Gatorland a few minutes ago, and it asked when I needed it delivered by (Nov 29 for me), and it said 10 business days is Nov 27.

Oh dear! At least it sounds like you already know where you'll land! And since the trip is already paid for, definitely no reason to cancel it. Its always crummy to lose a job you enjoy, but I'm sure you'll find something soon.

Excellent! Thank you for this info... We're ordering tomorrow morning (waiting on credit card credit to go through) so I'm hopeful we'll be ok...

You must have better coffee than me. I had two cups and see no skipping in my near future! :coffee:

You'd be amazed at what I can virtually HA!

Hi all,

Craziness here. Sold our house and probably going into escrow today. Got full prince which we are thrilled about. Making an offer on another house today.

Does anyone know if there is a review/photos for the Nov. 9th party yet? I can't find it anywhere.

Great news!

OMG - what an unexpected post from you! Sorry to hear that but, your attitude is fantastic and it looks like better things are ahead! Also, great that they will pay you til the end of the year.

The Disney vacay will be much needed.

That's because he hasn't needed it yet... tell him to think of it as IMS (Insuring Male Stupidity) and as an EOB (equal opportunity blamer) men buy sports cars and electronic devices that we allow as insurance too... so there ;)

gina

Oh, he needs it.. With the things we went through recently I should have a 10ct diamond on my finger. I'm not pushing, but I think he knows that it will need to appear sooner rather than later. I'm still silently hoping for Disney. We do have a breakfast ADR at CRT on 12/12.

He hasn't bought any new technology lately, which is weird and I'm just as likely to buy the newest gadget as he it. :thumbsup2

So I had planned on spending the day on here being lazy and also planning for the trip. I was starting to work on ride schedules on touringplans when suddenly the power went out. 5.5 hrs with it down before it came back. While I was pissed about it (on my lazy day off), I do have a clean and more organized house to show for it. So I guess that makes me happy. :)

You have a great attitude. Things will work out. I was just there with DH 6 weeks ago, so I feel your pain. But I get your reasoning for keeping your trip because it is paid off. (We would have too had DH not been hired somewhere else so quickly). Hoping things pan out with your friend. It will all come together.

HECK-- you could get a job in a couple of weeks with your friend, then get double paid for a few weeks there. You never know! :thumbsup2

Hubby just popped in the room and said: "hey hun, did you manage to score us a BOG ressie? I know you wanted to go"

Me: no, but I kinda quit trying, since there has been NO availability and the menu isnt 'must do'

His response: since when is disney dining about FOOD - its experience and I KNOW you want to see inside of that building.

LOL he knows me so well. :rotfl2:

That's what happened to my BIL in 2010. He immediately got a much better job that paid more and had his severance. Not surprisingly, they used some of it to go to DisneyWorld. :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a cold. I feeling exhausted and my throat is starting to feel weird. It doesn't help that it was almost 70 here yesterday and now it's in the 30s. Ah, Chicago...

But, in better news, only 30 days until Disney! I really cannot wait to be there.

I have no idea how I posted this twice sorry!!!!!

Please also know my bitterness is in jest. I know there are people up North who've been without power for weeks. That's a REAL reason to be bitter. I was just inconvenienced ever so slightly.

I have 2 quick questions, and neither are about our December trip!

Dh is leaving Wednesday of this week for a conference in Orlando (lucky), and he finally got around today to breaking the news to me that he and a few of his work friends will be going into the parks at night while they are there (I don't begrudge him...just jealous he gets adult time at Disney!).

Anyway, since they will be in conferences all day, they are going to get the special conference after 4pm ticket for this Friday night, to go to Epcot for dinner/drinking.

They are trying to decide what to do Thursday (11/15). They wanted to do MK, but it closes early for MVMCP, so no point paying $50 for a 1/2 day ticket when the park closes at 7. I told them to maybe get a party ticket instead of a park ticket - they could still get in at 4, and then they could stay til midnight. I've never paid attention to the MVMCP stuff bc we don't go to it - but this is correct, right? They could still enter at 4?

I know not all rides are open during the party, but most are, right? They won't care about the characters and things like that since none will have their kids with them. I'm not sure what else to tell them to do, unless they go to a different park altogether Thursday night.

So my questions are :

1. Would you suggest a MVMCP ticket for Thursday night?
2. Can disney gift cards be used for alcohol? They are drinking around epcot Friday night (Have I mentioned how jealous I am...just keep remembering I'll be there in a few weeks), and I wanted to give him one of our gift cards. Work will reimburse his meals, but obviously not his beers from every country.
3. Does anyone have a touring plans subscription that can tell me what the crowds are supposed to be like in Epcot this Friday? I think they are going anyway - but figure I could at least let them know what to expect.

Thanks!

I know we had a whole "find Coke Zero" group on here, but does anyone know if Ginger Ale is pretty available in WDW??? It's become my new addiction....

I can answer 2 of those questions.

1. If they want to go to MK for Thursday night I'd do it with the MVMCP. The crowds are listed as a 1.1. Yes you can get in a 4 with a MVMCP ticket.

2. IDK

3. Epcot is listed as 7.4 on Friday.

Does anyone know if Mickey and Minnie meet after the parties end (on Dec.21) in their holiday attire? We will be there from Dec. 28th -2nd and I know in prior year AK still had holiday attire but I cannot recall Mickey and Minnie.
