Ah, it's good to work in government...

Hiya Gang! I had yesterday off, and this morning I had 9 pages to read through! I knew I should have gotten on yesterday. :)

I haven't seen Sounds Dangerous in too long - I can almost picture the company name... Is it Acme Snow Globes?

As for Bill Nye - I too remember the Innoventions attraction ( it was were IBM is now), but cannot remember any others.

-Kim

OK…I agree…enough with the Spam….

As for the open questions…I have no idea about theBill Nye question…
But I will guess that the snow globe is the ABC company…

I am also interested about everyone else’s comments about the directon of the PG thread…I have noticed some familiar faces haven’t been around lately…but wasn’t quite sure why…now I know…
Well, how can we fix it?
Can we police it better to keep down some of the fluff?
We should come up with a plan….
Let me know what you think….

latest guesses: Acme or ABC, no good although Acme is always a good guess.

hint: It is also the name of an Airline.

Comments on game: We have had some really hard questions lately. If I see that we have a hard one and have room for another I will try to toss out a softball to keep the game going. I don't think I exceed the amount of cards that I have earned. If I am asking too many questions, let me know.
Like the others, the last thing I want to see is this thread go away. This is a great work time diversion. I want to help this thread be better. How can I and all of us do that?

Just for the sake of another voice, I'll throw in my two cents. I'll warn you that I'm feeling long-winded today. *LOL* My reply is not intended as a flame, just a newbie observation.

I think a lot of newbies take their cues from the people who have been around awhile, although it's sometimes difficult to tell exactly who those are. Now I realize that the the "Spam" posts are definitely off-topic. However, if this is approached as simply a question/answer game, then I think all the posts about Dole Whips and Chalk Circles and Magic Coolers and Serving Wenches are just as off-topic. (I don't want to spoil anyone's fun with the "ambience" of the thread; that's just a newbie observation.) However, since I saw so much of that stuff when I first started reading this thread, I took that to mean that some idle banter between members of this particular "community" was an accepted norm.

I too have sometimes had trouble sorting through the posts to find out what the questions were and what answers had been suggested. But as I mentioned, I thought that was just part of the thread. Magickndm mentioned that there are some regulars who don't even play anymore because of all the fluff. Now if I were a long-time follower of this thread, I would certainly be upset if a bunch of newbies came in and drastically changed the nature of something I really enjoyed. But it's up to the regulars to set the tone for the newbies.

I'll admit that I posted a message in the key of Spam. However, the majority of my posts have been posting questions, suggesting answers, and inquiring about the rules of the game. I think it's up to the regulars (or old-timers, if you will) to set the direction of the thread. Personally I've enjoyed the thread so far.

Madonna31 mentioned that the game was originally designed so that on an imaginary walk through the parks people could spot the answers. I would personally like to see that extended to perhaps include at least the resorts and DD as well. But that's just one newbie opinion. Perhaps there should be a trivia thread just for questions like "how many seats are there in HISTA" or "what is the horseposwer of the motors on TOT".

Again, these are my idle ramblings and the observations of a newbie. They do not necessarily reflect the views of the management, and they're certainly not intended to start a flame war.

That being said, I've still got my Bill Nye question out there. Anyone ready to say "uncle"? ;)

I hear what everyones saying, I too remember the first CC. Their were questions all the time and we had a lot of fun (not that its not fun now of course). I kind of miss the old ways of a question a minute instead of two questions every three pages. I remember the original CC gang, which is no longer all here (where did they go, no one really knows....). Its not like I don't like the new players (your all great) but I just like to look back on the past year and remember. Well, thats my opinion.

Edit:

After reading Ocean's replay I have a little more to say. I consider myself a long-timer and I have watched as the game got more and more "Fluffy" as Ocean put it. But unlike what Ocean said, it is not the newbies, it is even some of us old-timers. The CC is this way because we made it like this, all of us. The community is made by the everyone in it not just some. I think we should all work to the goal of trying to restore the CC to its former glory.

And Madonna, thank you for being the bravest and the first to speak about this.

Just a quick comment from one of the Part One gang:

The thread will develop in whatever direction people allow it to. Just two things to remember. Sometimes people go away because of other things in their life. Personally, I have been going to school while working many more hours. I just don't have enough time anymore to post 15-20 times a day. Second, this thread is allowed to survive by the good graces of the moderators. It is located in the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies area, so please be careful how far you stray from that topic.

By the way, my favorite strategy to get to the front of the Space Mountain line is to get a Fastpass really early in the day :p .

-Distriv-

Distriv, Ocean - That's the funny part is ...truth is: yes the *oldtimers* or *original park game players* and I mean *real original players - players from PG 1* were the ones who invented Dole Whips/CC's/Shackys/71 etc...but when we brought them up - they weren't contained in EACH AND EVERY single post we made!!!

Unfortunately new players (players after PG 1) would see it and jump on it and OVERPLAY the joke and think that this thread was so much fun because of the fluff and not because of the actual game.

Higgs you asked for suggestions - here is one:

There are players who believe that the CC is MUCH better with Whip a rita's / piles of AAQ cards and asking as much as 3 questions at once, then there are players that liked the game to old way of simple Dole Whips/no AAQ cards (the person who answered the last question right got to ask the next)/and only 1 question at a time.

I see two c-o-m-p-l-e-t-e-l-y different threads....what do you say old timers???? Should we leave our new friends here to continue playing this way (that way we can jump in whenever we feel the urge to have a *tri-mountain whip-a-rieta run* ) and we could start a *new thread* playing the *old way*....

Distriv - Higgs - Jas - thanks for the support...psst.. Distriv-it was easy to bring up, as I have made so many friends from this thread that I needed to tell them how much I missed *playing with them...*

I'm not sure what the solution is. There is no way to make everyone happy. But I too missed my friends on here. It's nice to see new faces, really. But I feel the whole whiparita thing got out of hand. This thread has been moving away from BEING ABOUT TRIVIA and more about BEING THE CC (if that makes any sense???). Change happens, I understand that. A time ago I brought up about how some things were making me unhappy on the thread (this would be part Deux). I did go back and edit my comments but yet they were picked up on and became part of the "newbies" message from Mbabe. In a way I felt that I was being made fun of since I was upset that ppl weren't getting along as well and that the thread was starting to make a turn at that point. I credited that post as having a bad day (we all have them, right), but looking back that time period was the beginning of the change, at least for me. It was after that, that I didn't post as frequently. I owe this explanation to the friends I have made here. I don't think I have some ownership right as an original poster. Heck I got in late on that one, even. I just miss the flow of that thread without having to wade through all the fluff.

I'm with Madonna about maybe a new thread or if we could set some new rules on this one, that everyone feels comfortable with. I don't want to take away from anyone's fun. That's not the point of this. The point is I miss hanging out with my friends.

I've been quiet here in the thread most of the morning but I finally have to chime in ...

I admit that I am an "oldtimer" who goes back to the latter days of Part One and who has taken us into the area of Off-Topicness with Dole Whiparitas, Chalk Circle furniture and even cheering for "my teams." I also will say that I have suggested in thread 2 and 3 that we limit it to one question a la Part 1 but no one supported me on it so I just dropped it. I liked the one question rule with a softball on occassion to keep those of us who can't get the "stump the board" questions. Seems like those stumpers are more and more prevalent. Me ... I like the softballs once in a while 'cause I have enough stress and competition in the REAL world.

I like "hanging" in the CC where I have made some wonderful friends (unless I scared them away with emails this morning for which I publicly apologize). And I miss those old friends. I also have made some new friends too ...

I don't have any solutions or words of wisdom to offer.

And in the true spirit of the game ...

JWill is it Eastern SnowGlobe Co?

In order to 'stay on topic' - I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon - just sort of hang on the side with this one comment - there are only so many softballs , and a lot of them have been thrown, hense new questions get harder. done.

On with the game -

How about United Snow Globe? Maybe PanAm Snow Globe. :)

Still no idea on Bill Nye - so here's one to keep it interesting:
What used to be in the building on Main Street that now houses The Art of Disney?

OK, I'll just say this one last thing (throwing a leg into the bandwagon) - I joined because along with this cool game about the World, we also got to sit in the chalk circle, sipping Dole Whips and eating Emu legs while watching the parades go by all the while having a 71' straw in our back pockets just in case. It's this whole little sub-culture that has become another home to me. When I do get to go to the World - I think of the CC gang. I love you Man!

I've read thru all the posts this morning and will agree that the game has changed. Do we need to set the rules to limit only one question at a time? Possibly. I know that lately I've gotten lost with so many questions floating around. And with the number of difficult questions, it's kept me from posting (aside from the Real Life things going on). The bantering and chatting doesn't bother me. In fact, a certain amount of it helps us all get to know one another better. Has it gotten out of hand? Maybe. Should it stop? I say no. Otherwise we lose that personal connection we have on this thread. It really depends how each individual looks at it. Should we tone it down? Again, possibly. It really depends how much we want the game to continue or do we want to have the game as a sidebar.
I know I started the whole "Spam" thing, but never realized it would take off into what eventually happened. I know I didn't help by further contributing to it, but hey, on the postitive side, it brought OT out of the woodwork. :p As far as the CC/Dole Whips/Whiparitas/etc., they're the same to me as the "Spam" thing. A diversion, but only in moderation.
I like seeing newbies join the game. For every new person we get, they bring a whole new perspective to the game. I just don't want to see them run off by asking only hard questions. After all, it's not about who gets a Shacky or how many we have, it's about sharing our knowledge of the parks. Every new person that joins us has their own observations and views on the parks and the questions they ask. I'm sure we have more lurkers out there than we realize & asking only hard questions will turn people off to the game. For those who ask easy to moderate questions, good for you. For those who ask difficult questions, they're good brain teasers, but I'd like to see questions for everyone a bit more frequently. I think we need the tougher questions from time to time, but mostly to keep us on our toes, not as a standard for the game.

That's just MHO, my 2 cents worth. Okay... all done... stepping of the soapbox now....

I'll attempt to stay on topic with the snow globe question, but I've never seen the Sounds Dangerous show, so I can't offer a legitimate guess. :( Maybe after early April that will be different. ;)

there are only so many softballs , and a lot of them have been thrown, hense new questions get harder. done

Sorry Kim - I don't agree at all...REAL softballs are never-ending...

1) Who sponsor's HISTA?
2) What colour were the vehicles on the People mover?
3) How many country's make up the world showcase?
4) How many *stories* are there on the Tower of Terror?
5) Your vehicle goes 0 to what on RnR?

I could go on and on....but I think you get my point!

Also:

It's this whole little sub-culture that has become another home to me. When I do get to go to the World - I think of the CC gang. I love you Man!

I agree - HOWEVER...sipping Dole Whips and eating Emu legs doesn't have to happen EVERY SECOND SENTENCE of someone's post!!!! (That's what I meant by *fluffy*...) I for one got tired of finding a free minute at work to post - to have it wasted by reading back 9 pages about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

First of all...is it United Snow Globes?

Now...I’ve finally caught up on the posts...and it seems we have some good thoughts here...it looks like we need to fix our beloved game to keep it strong and healthy...
I’m not sure that starting a second thread is the complete answer...I think we can fix this one...and we can all continue to play together :)
Here’s some suggestions (for what they’re worth...)
1) We need to keep an eye on the number of qustions out there....so---why don’t we try to keep it at a limit of 2 active questions at a time....that way we can have a hard and softball out there at once
2)A return to the...you answered it...you ask it policy...that way...we can control the # of questions out there...which leads to...
3)No more AAQ cards for seconding a question...you can still second...but only the first to answer gets to ask...
4) Thinking about the banter and the Whiparitas...etc...I don’t want to see that go...sometimes creating that subculture of the CC is as much fun as the game...and it is a great way to get to know each other andmake friends...BUT it seems it gets too much sometimes...so lets try this...Each post should contain a question or an answer...after that...banter away...but each post needs to move the game along....

As I write this...I am being careful to avoid even giving the impression I am picking on anyone in particular...that is not my intent at all....I’ve made so many good friends here...and I reall enjoy hanging out....
I want to see the whole gang...old and new....come back to the CC...and keep the PG going on..and on....

Well...there's my $0.02....what does everyone think...

Be back later...have a good one :P

AAQ card to Ozzel and Higgs, the Snowglobe Company in Sounds Dangerous is the United Snowglobe Company.

Ocean had a good comment before about the newer people taking their cues from the older members. When I showed up during part deux in June, because of the banter it seemed as if all of you had known each other for many years. You all seemed like a tight knit bunch. From that it is evident that it was going on for a while before that. Was it going on to the degree that is now, I don't know. When your in something everyday it's hard to see the gradual changes. I admit like some of the others I don't mind it.
I think I have been guilty of throwing out some hard questions lately, especially after my recent trip with this being the first trip since I was really involved with this thread. On the other hand I think I have been pretty good with giving hints that get the question answered. It's more fun to see more people answer the questions.

I respect the elder players of the game and the rules they set/will set down. If we/Iare straying too far off course from the tradition of the game I wouldn't mind being told.
Sorry this was so long.
Thank You.
Jim

I like Higgs answers. One YES vote.

(By the way, I think I invented the AAQ way back when with a little picture post. Sorry if this created some of the current problems).

I believe the only question outstanding is the Bill Nye question. Can we get another hint? Is he featured somewhere on Main Street?

As a newbie, may I chime in with a newbie's perspective. I just read through 9 pages to catch up, but that was only after not visiting the CC since Sunday. Quite honestly, I don't mind it. I found the rule of keeping the questions in bold helps me scan through some of the fluff. I find the CC exhilirating, since to me it was a virtual visit to the world for those of us who cannot go more than once a year (or longer). I admittedly have used the internet to help me find some answers to questions and some questions themselves, but I don't look at that as a bad thing. To me it is about the quest - I have learned more about WDW searching the web for answers to some of the questions, than I would have ever dreamed was out there - and for that I'm grateful I found this game. The questions and answers here also give me new ideas of things to do on our next visit - new ways to look at things in the World (see accompanying thread about park secrets).

And to stay on topic - I'll guess the minimum height for the Tomorrowland Speedway is 71"

You wanna hint, you gotta hint. To recap, Jwill guessed Ellen's Energy Adventure for the first part. Granny guessed Dinosaur for the second part. Those two parts are correct. Other mentioned some Epcot things of which I was unaware, so that's not the answer I'm looking for.

Other hints that have filtered through: I'm not looking for a particular store or resort (meaning Disney hotel).

Now for new hints: think outside the main parks. Carry your quest beyond the gates of MK, E, MGM, AK, and explore another area of the world. It is definitely an attraction, but perhaps a bit off the beaten path.

As for the bonus question - remember it's a trick question. The answer is very, very easy. Look at the correct answers I listed above, and that should give you a huge hint on the bonus.

Is Bill Nye found anywhere in Tomorrowland?

Here Here Higgs!! Oh great Emperor of the Parks Game Thread Part Three - I will also give you my vote!

I think the AAQ's were created because people can't always get on often, thus answers can go unconfirmed for a while and questions unasked too. I like the idea of 1 question - unless it's a toughy, then softballs are needed to keep the game rolling while we take pot shots at the tough question.

I asked a question at the top of page 99, and since the only other one out there is the Bill Nye question, I'll leave it stand. Here it is again - I don't think it's a fastball:
What used to be in the building on Main Street that is now "The Art of Disney"? (It's to the left of Guest Relations)

We've got plenty of seats for the 3 o'clock parade
