Parking with ECV but no Handicap tag

I apologize if I gave bad information, if memory serves on my earlier trips with and ECV I was able to talk to the CM and park either in or near the HC spaces, though that was many, many years ago... they say memory is the first thing to go! I do stand by my advice to arrive early though. The parking lots are enourmous and a late arrival may put you very far out and drain a good bit of the battery long before even reaching the gate.

Regarding the post on not having a placard but having plates, here is an interesting exert... obviously revolves around being able to get off site and get a temporary permit in florida. But there has to be somewhere close in Orlando!?!?

I don't think it would apply to this situation. This is what the site says:

"However, if your current permit does not display one of the international symbols of accessibility, you will need to obtain a temporary parking permit"

The link i posted is all about getting the aforementioned 'temporary parking permit' while in Florida, issued by Florida State for someone who only has 'plates'.

It was referencing the additional posted question about someone having 'plates' and not a placard. My apologies if this was confusing.

It appears you can use your current disabled ID card that accompanies the plates to obtain a temporary florida pass, albeit in person at a local Tax office.

For once my state (NH) is ahead of the curve. When you are issued a placard, they actually give you 2! One to leave on your car at when it's parked at the airport in NH and one to take on vacation. Now if they only made they out of plastic that could withstand the brutal winters. One winter and both of mine are held together with tape.

I thought the plates were only for vehicles made accessible for people with a physical disability - vehicles with handbrakes, specialized pedals, roll-in spot for a wheelchair - things you would not find in a regular vehicle. Why would they put a plate on a regular vehicle? It's not specialized, and it limits who can drive the vehicle, doesn't it? Can you drive someone else's car if it has a HC plate? It doesn't have ID on the plate, and doesn't the hang-tag have a name, or even a photo?

MD is the same. You can have 2 placards, 2 "sets" of plates (we require front and rear plates on vehicles), or one of each.

No... any vehicle owned or used by (i.e. parents of a disabled child) a qualifying disabled person is eligible for HC plates. Yes, I can still drive my parent's car even with HC plates. Now if someone not eligible for the plates is driving and they are alone, they need to park in a regular parking space. They could get in trouble (if caught) using a HC space when the eligibile person was not with them. Some people put plates on a regular vehicle just because they find it easier than dealing with remembering to constantly display the hang tag. In MD, it is illegal to drive with the hangtag dangling from the rear view mirror. You can get a ticket for that.
Our hangtags do not have any personal identifying information on them. They have an individual MVA assigned number and the expiration stickers.

Colorado: You get the choice of 2 hangtags OR a set of license plates (front & rear).
I would never get the plates. I often go places with friends or family in their vehicles and if you only have the plates on your car you're out of luck. I keep one hangtag in my vehicle and the other in my purse so that I always have one if I'm in a vehicle other than my own or traveling.

DS is not disabled; using an ECV is just a precaution to prevent him from overexerting himself. So we'll be fine with regular parking and having him ride the ECV while we walk or ride the tram.

Thanks everyone!
Many states offer a temporary tag for short term injuries. The doctor sets the period of time needed and an expiration date is written on the tag.

In our state the dr cannot set the period of time for a temp tag. there are only 2 options... either a temporary one which is automatically issued for 6 months or a permanent one which is indefinite.

All this is irrelevant. When you go to park and get to where they direct you off into the normal parking lane, just open your window and explain that you've got an SUV in the back. They will direct you to a reserved area - they'll usually give you a specific row to park in. This is easily walkable for the rest of my party while I ride alongside them.

The only time this won't work is at MK where you will still park a fair way back. I rode on my own to the park while DD and OH got the road tram.

my friend and I did this we had to park pretty fair away and we thought it was better and closer to park with the normal parking people, this is just what we exsprinces other could have different, but if you are getting there at park or close to park opening I would conceder just parking regular but if you get there latter in the day this might be an option
