Parking spaces for expectant mothers at Walmart?

Whats next, parking for obese people? :rotfl:

Ah, the healthy, nonpregnant people get such bad parking these days :rotfl2:

They didn't have those spots when I was pregnant with youngest DS, lugging around 70 extra pounds and a toddler! :p

Seriously, though, I could care less. Like someone else said, I always park my car as far away from the front as possible, not so much for the exercise, but to avoid dings and runaway shopping carts!

I'm reminded of my former co-worker, who had twin boys who were always getting into some kind of mischief. The boys had just gotten their driver's license, and went to the mall where they parked in a spot designated for "Seniors". Silly boys pulled right in and ran in the store, only to be accosted by some old person who was highly offended they would park in a space designated for Senior citizens. They didn't understand, they thought the spot was designated for high school seniors. :rotfl: Talk about your entitlement mentality! :rotfl:

We only have then at Babies R Us here and it is only for expectant women, not new moms. So, heck yeah I parked there a week ago! They have half the parking lot for expectant moms and I just needed to run in with my 10lb newborn in the 50lb car seat I'm still not use to carrying around! LOL! They should forgive me considering how much money I've spent there lately! ;)

Best Buy here in Salt Lake had them for about a year. They were NEVER used and over the course of time they dwindled. There were four spots to start with, then after about three months there were only two. After about six months, one of the two became the "Employee of the Month" spot and finally last week we noticed the final spot gone. DH and I go to Best Buy probably once a week and never once saw anyone parked on those spots.

We have them here, but of course I live in HELL so all the idiots violate them. Of course all the idiots here also park in the handicap parking. I hate Greenville!

I think its a good idea but there are so many dishonest people out there...I mean what does it hurt to walk a little extra if you AREN'T PREGGIE OR HANDICAP?

OMG Snopps,

I think you just saw the future with my son!! That is definatly something GOOBER would do!

I found this thread when I did a search for shopping carts because I just could not believe that there have been debats on bring the shopping cart back to the corral or not. :rotfl: Anyway when I saw the title of this one I knew it was trouble! I am a mother of 4 children under the age of 5. Now that I am not pregnant anymore I gladly park all the way in the back because I like the extra exercise. When I was pregnant however I could barely walk(shin splints, feet pain and wonderful bone grinding in my hips/groin) and a close space would have been wonderful. There is only 1 store around here that has expectant mother/moms with young children spaces and it is over an hour away. I'll take the walk through the parking lot thank you. :teeth: Not all pregnant women have model pregnancys and can handle a lot of walking, but they are moms/wives and still have to bring food into the house. I think it is selfish of people to get mad about these spaces because it's "unfair" or anything. I would use a specially marked space in a second if I needed it, but I am so thankful now that all is well. :teeth:

I have rarely used these parking spaces when pregnant. I am now in my 3rd trimester and am having terrible pain in my pubic bone, it's separating or something. Anyway, it hurts really bad to walk, lift my legs, get into the car, roll over in bed, you name it. Will I use these spaces from now on - you betcha!!!

We have the reserved parking spaces for preg. women at our mall, but there are only 2 of them and the teenagers usually park in them. There is really no way to know if the person parked there is preg. or not, so nothing anyone can do about it. I have had terrible ligament pain during my preg. and walking far distances wears me out quickly. Dh has dropped me off at the entrances before but we did luck out and get the 'expectant mothers' spot one time which was really nice! I think these are great but there isn't enough of them and there are far too many unpregnant, unhandicapped people that park illegally around here. They not only park in the 'preg. women' spots but also in the handicapped spots.

:rotfl2: I can see it now - a pregnant woman in a dark alley, wearing a trenchcoat going ,"pssst! - lady come here! want me to pee on a stick for you? only $10".

Yep, nothing like that 3rd trimester and that punched-in-the-crotch feeling. Ouch. Thankfully it doesn't last forever, but those parking spaces can really help.

Early congrats to the newly expanded family. Take your time getting up and doing things. Don't rush any thing. let your DH help you!

Isn't walking one of the things Drs recommend to induce labor? Maybe the stores don't want any births in the parking lot

They should want births in the parking lot. They'd get a ton of free publicity and probably be able to pay the mother something to name the kid "Wegman" or "Kroger" or "Winn-Dixie."

This sums up my opinion: Its a choice, not a handicap, gimme a break.

I hate Walmart (for reasons other than the parking spots) so I don't go there anyway.

I really appreciated these spots last summer when I was VERY pregnant in the AZ heat.

I thinks it's nice to have, but if your pregnant and can't walk across the parking lot, then what will you do when you get in the store? What's the difference between walking in the parking lot and walking in the store?

It's not that a pregnant woman CAN'T walk across the parking lot, it's just a courtesy.

Like I said earlier, I have tons of pain when I walk. The Dr. told me the pain in my pubic bone was only going to get worse and would not go away immediately after giving birth (It feels like I am constantly falling on a boys bicycle). I have 2 other kids, sitting at home is not an option, I have to buy groceries. Walking through the store hurts bad enough - but I have to do that - and if I can save a few steps not having to walk through a parking lot then so be it. Personally, I have always chosen not to take these spaces and save them for pregnant women who are miserably uncomfortable or have other medical needs but now that I am the one in pain I will use them if available.

We don't have them at my store then again some days I think *every* reg stall could be given that title... (Where I live I would guess that 2/3rds of my city is either pregnant or has kids under 2...) Course maybe I notice it cause I'm jealous but *thats* a whole nother story....
