Parking spaces for expectant mothers at Walmart?

Isn't walking one of the things Drs recommend to induce labor? Maybe the stores don't want any births in the parking lot ;)

Why does there have to be a line drawn at all. They are a sweet (marketable) courtesy. They are not a legal issue. You will not be towed if you park there. Go for it! Who cares? Why spend time fussing and worrying about something so silly? Just take the spot next time, and save some time fretting.

The idea of making another sign/statement PC is utter nonsense to me. This is a marketing tactic. Nothing more or less.
I think you need a chill pill, geez I never knew you couldn't discuss anything in this place without being taken as a debate or complaint.

Or to have to mop up after the woman's water breaks on aisle 4.

I've only seen them at our local Babies R Us. I never used them until towards the end of my pregnancy and we had to run to BRU and the parking lot was almost completely full. I still felt guilty.

i think they are great but people wihtout infants park there all the time and nothing is done about it so i feel like they are useless

As long as they provide me with a shuttle bus to get from the "regular" parking lot to the store, no problem ;)

I haven't noticed them at the local Super Walmart, I'll make a point to read the signs next time.

My favorite grocery store has a few spots designated for "parents of small children." :confused3

Those spots are reserved for you now.... ;)

I don't think DW ever uses them right now (the ones are Babies R Us are always full for some reason :confused3 ), but hey, if I'm lugging the new baby along with trying to corral a 4 year old at the same time, I'd probably think about using one. :teeth:

Heck if they are there why not? Let's see what marketing courtesy/ strategy the stores come up with next :confused3 . That should be interesting :rotfl:

They've had those at Babies R. Us for a long time. I think it's crazy. Aren't pregnant women supposed to do a lot of walking? ;) They should make special parking for people with cranky, whiny kids. ;)

You 're right, it's amazing we all lived. To think my poor mother had to walk all that way, but at least she got to finish her cigarette. Oh wait, no, she probably lit up in the store. ;)

hehehe...yep...that was my mom!
things were so different in the 70's...

I think they qualify ::yes:: . The signs in our area say "for expecting mothers or families with small children".

Only Babies R Us has the stork parking, but Fred Meyer has stroller parking and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it, it's right up next to the store so I don't have to try pushing a cart and tracking a three year old through the parking lot (a lot of the people near this store work with DH and the lack of driving skills is scary, we've almost been taken out on several occasions) so if I can avoid the dodge and run of the parking lot I will.

As for expectant mom parking, heck yeah I would have used it if it was available. I have high risk pregnancies, I was allowed up and out to handle shopping and trying to walk from the back 40 at Costco just wasn't happening. So DH would drop me off at the door go park and come back with the kid(s), it was a hassle.

Doesn't bother me I almost always park towards the back of the lots anyway.

I don't mind them. I've only used one once (at BRU), and that was because my mom was driving and she said "Oh! We can park in the baby space!!". I think she did it more because it was just one more thing that made her feel the reality of her soon to be granddaughter than anything else. :teeth:

All other times, though, my SO parks out in the back 40 so no one will ding his truck. The priorities are clear in my family!! ;) :teeth:

We have those in a few places around here. It is not "official", you can't get in trouble for using them when you are not pregnant.

That being sadi, I remember what it was like to "waddle" the last few weeks of my pregnancies. So, I always, always leave them open. I have to shake my head at the "seemingly fit" people who will whip into it, get out, no kids in sight, and go into the store. Some people have no consideration. I am sure they are thinking "why should a person get this prime spot just because they are pregnant, it is bad enough I have to leave the handicap spaces open for people who are actually handicapped, screw it, I am going to take it."

:sad2:

Having had two difficult pregnancies - I really appreciate those spots - with my DD - my babies rode high and I had trouble breathing in my ninth month - being able to park close to the door was great -

also - when it is icy or raining - it is much harder for a pregnant lady to just run inside or maneuver the icy spots

I think it would make sense to put those spots next to the shopping cart corral. Grab a cart right next to your car and put your kid in it.

Just as a side note, last month I was at the grocery store and there was a younger guy, maybe around 35, in a wheelchair, bringing his groceries out. And his car (with a handicappped sticker) was parked way out because there were no handicapped spaces available.

Yes I agree its a nice courtesy when you are 9 months pg, but you still have to walk inside the store too.
