parking problems at OKW

Maybe parking problems are happening at OKW because many here say that you must have a car to stay at OKW.:confused3

Properly designed you should be able to park in the parking lot of your unit. These situations took place in the evening after the parks closed. One night I had to cruise for a while to find a spot and that was several units down. All the lots were quite full, particularly on the weekends.

Staying at SSR a few years ago I recall more parking, but that was when they were still building out the resort.

sorry but building 45 and 46 are just designed that way - the first half of building 45 has no parking lot neither does the last half of building 46.....

now if you had to park in another building lot say 47 then you might get more sympathy.

you can do what several guest do - you pull up to the nearest sidewalk to your room for loading and unloading your car. then park it after you have unloaded it.

look at the map

you are not going to get your own personally space with your room number on it at OKW. if you did you might even be further out.:rolleyes1

Just curious, dumbo71, where did you find info on parking at AKV? I've been wondering what the setup was going to be. Is there something I haven't seen yet? I'm just wild to find out about the layout, floor plans, etc....:yay:

Just blueprints that have been posted here. I saw some under unit parking and some "other" parking. The real issue there is that I feel a higher percentage of people are going to want a car when staying there.

I hope they factored that in. As far as rooms, we all wait for the models.....

you don't really need one. and since DME I have seem less cars at OKW.

having been in building 45 - I can sympathy a little - in front of building 45 is 2 place - 1 handicapped on either side - maybe 3 more space - in front of this building - behind it because the parking lot is shaped differently there are only like 5 - now between the building 45 & 46 are several parking spaces.

that is where most of the guest are to park.

and if you think this is far - never go to BWV, VWL - BCV might meet your needs if you ask for a parking lot view.

sorry but walking to the much further parking lot at SSR was more painfully to me than not getting something right out of my door.

Actually it was at building 48. As far as sympathy...none needed.

Personal numbered parking spot...not expected.

Parking reasonably close to unit ...desired.

"you pull up to the nearest sidewalk to your room for loading and unloading your car. then park it after you have unloaded it"....smart enough to have done that.

Dear manning,

You have now entered the Disboard zone. In this altered state of reality anyone who dares to question DVC or WDW wil face the flames from Disboard members or as I like to call them sheep following the herd that is WDW.

After said flames you will be subject to a public flogging.

Moral: Question the greedy mouse only at your own peril.

OKW has closer parking to the units than SSR.

that is what got me to defend OKW.

most of the villa at OKW will be that way - you have a bunch of people in a fairly large building that is trying to look small. there is parking of each and every unit - but hardly ever in front of your unit.

it was designed to look nice - not be efficient. besides in some of those places you might be interfering with the golf and DVC promise not too.

I think that each parking lot was surpose to look like some type of sea creature.

sorry but my walk to my car at SSR was much further than anything at oKW. this was in Congress park.

I did almost park in front of the unit at SSR. Problem was 4 floors and a bunch of lawn between me and the car and no nice place to unload the car. (well that I saw - if there is one please post)

that say I did notice that Spring parking is much, much closer to the units than Congress was...

certainly didn't mean to insult you.

I agree with you, Pat. We liked the units at SSR well enough, but didnt' particularily feel the parking was "outside our door" like it is at OKW. Sure you might not always get to park in the space right outside your particular unit at OKW, but your parking lot will be VERY close in most cases, with a few exceptions.

Agreed, we have always been very close at OKW as well.

Are we talking about the same SSR? Granted I stayed in the Springs but the lot was huge compared to the Marriott Cypress Harbour I came from that morning. CH is a lot like OKW with the small building and theming. Parking is a nightmare there. You can never find a free HC spot for a van. But SSR was loaded with them.

My point was that the OKW parking is right outside your building, while SSR parking is usually quite a distance.....bigger buildings....bigger lot....farther away....We've only had an issue when we stayed in building 64 at OKW. SSR felt like we were going to a parking lot instead of something attached to our unit.

I can usually find a close parking spot at OKW... so I really am not sure why you weren't able to unless there was some kind of event going on. I agree with most here that when we stay at SSR, it always seems to be pretty far from the unit to the car.

springs parking is definitely closer than Congress - go look you will see what we are talking about.

DVC told me that for every hc villa they had one parking spot for it.

but every parking lot I have been in has HC parking generally with no one in it.

if you are talking about the HH - some some unknown reason - some of the handicapped parking has gone to their DVC van parking. I certainly don't know why.

Now see here, you weenie whiners (or should that be whining weenies?)

You want to talk tough DVC parking, well I got two words for you:

VERO BEACH!

Amatures! Rank Amatures!

Oh my, Tony's right, I have yet to feel confident about fitting any of our rentals into those parking spaces in the underground parking facility at VB!

well AKV is going to a much bigger underground lot.....;) :rotfl2:

We are leaving next week for our first stay @ OKW. Having stayed @ BCV & SSR, I am looking forward to the closer parking.

That said, I will park where ever I need to. It's not like I am not going to be doing a little walking at WDW anyway.

Has anyone ever self parked @ GF for a dinner during X-mas time? Now that is a WALK. Valet Parking only for this kid every time since then.

Edward

LOL, OKW will be MUCH closer than ANY parking space at GF!

definitely - I walked a mile (not kidding) at GF just getting back and forth to the car....

Once again I cheat and get to use the HA parking there. Usually it's available. Course, I haven't tried dinner time yet.

Now that lot where the Guard tells you, "Exit here, cross the street, then you'll find lots of parking" is a riot. First time we went (staying offsite and me using a push chair), we thought we were being sent to the swamps. Seemed forever before we got to the main building.

Polynesian's lot is even funnier. Miss the sign and you'll be doing a loop-de-loop out the main road and back again. I must have gone through the main gate 3 times before I found the sign for the lot on my way to the Luau one night. I wisely gave up the keys to someone else and relaxed with a few mai tais to get over the strain.

Now I know... visiting a Lagoon resort? Park at the TTC and take the monorail. You'll end up in the MK lot anyway.

As for SSR, it seemed from the map like there was the same amount of space at CP and Springs. Guess not. But then have you guys ever seen a map of Marriott's Cypress Harbour resort? It has the bungalo style buildings like OKW, albeit slightly bigger. Most surround a big giant lake and share the tiniest parking lots. Two HA spots per building tops. Non van accessible unless you count the one bordering the sidewalk where the maid golf carts end up "temporarily" parked. And this year they decided to add in speed bumps everywhere. God, I hate speed bumps! They wreak havoc on lowered floor ramp vans. Driving back and forth to DW was very tedious because of that.
