Parking Pass with Rental Car Question

Will Disney resorts give you a parking pass before you have a rental car but say you will have one eventually? Or do you need to tell them the license plate in order to get the pass? We plan to rent a car for a day but not on the day we check-in. Ideally we don't want to have to go back to the resort to get a pass after we pick up the car, wasting precious park time! But we also don't want to pay extra for parking at the parks if we're a resort guest. TIA!

Thank you everyone for your advice. It's been a while since we had a car when we visited WDW and lots has changed!

We always rent a car and stay onsite.

There are 2 lanes at the guard booth. The first time you drive into the resort you’ll need to stop at the guard booth is the left lane. They will ask for your ID and lookup your reservation (it’s fine if you haven’t officially checked in yet). After that you can use the right lane which just requires a tap of your MB or KTTW card.

This morning I read a post on the GF thread that guests with ADRs there (not staying there) were being directed to the overflow parking lot with 3-hour parking passes. Given that GF is the last monorail stop before MK and also has the walking path, I’m not surprised they’re being very strict about parking. This is the first I’ve seen about an actual 3-hour tag, though.

The gate is definitely sending non-guests with ADRs to the overflow with a 3 hour parking tag unless doing valet.

It was just a pink paper with 3 hour parking printed, but no time stamp or anyone monitoring the lot. It was mostly empty though.

I have had to park over there for years. The only time they let us park on the hotel side of street is when we had a H/C tag and then they sent us to DVC parking lot. Perhaps now they are just getting more strict.

That should work at any of the resorts. Also, going to the MK resorts, you now bypass the parking by following the overhead ramp on the left side. It is has well marked.
