Parking own wheelchair for the day, switch to ECV?

I apologize ahead of time - this is probably the kind of question that gets asked dozens of times but a search only turned up one thread which pertained and it didn't really hold the answer....

Is there a place to park a wheelchair at MK for the day, like maybe in the locker area? I want to bring my own wheelchair but then switch to a Disney ecv. I'll be renting an offsite ecv later on in the week when the rest of our family gets there but for those first few days my sister and I were supposed to just be lazily kicking around the resort. Now she's talking about sneaking in a day at MK. I won't have the ecv yet and don't really want to rent it that soon due to some other logistical problems. Taking my own chair to the park entrance and then switching to a Disney scooter would be a perfect solution. However, something tells me that's probably not allowed. Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

Disney staff are very helpful.

Though I have never done this myself, I am certain they will take your wheelchair backstage and look after it for you when you pick up your ECV.

If you have your own wheelchair they will tag and store it for you at no charge right at the location where you rent the ECV. But if you will be renting from off-site, it may be less expensive to add a few days to the rental rather than pay the $45.00 per day that Disney charges.

And that will give you time to get used to the ECV and also it can be used around the resort (some of which are very large) or Downtown Disney.

Thanks for the info, guys. Very helpful!

Cheshire, I'm not too concerned about the other issues having been on enough ECVs (and my ATV at home :thumbsup2 ) to adapt to the rental fairly quickly. And my sister is more than willing to give me a push around the resort, although we're staying at WL and, if I remember correctly, I'm a little concerned about how steep it is getting on and off the boat docks to MK pushing a wheelchair.

The logistical problem I mentioned is that we're changing resorts before the rest of the family gets there. We won't have our rental car yet and will already have the wheelchair and a stroller to deal with, besides luggage of course, and I didn't want to have the extra headache of also moving an ECV. Hmmmmm....unless the rental company moves it for us.

At any rate, thanks again for answering the question. It's nice to know what the options are.

If you are staying at Disney Resorts for both stays Bell Services will move all your luggage for you.

You should also check with the rental company. I know some people have been able to have the rental company move it for them.

Another possibility is just to let Bell Services move the luggage for you, go to a park from your first resort and then use a bus to get to the second resort.

While reading the two previous posts I had another of my slapping-the-forehead-Duh! moments. We're moving to the Swan. I had originally planned to ask bell services about moving luggage but still worried about how my sister (who is ALWAYS willing to cheerfully help me out where needed) would manage to handle both a stroller and wheelchair if I was using an ECV. Well, (and here's the Duh part) I assume bell services would also take care of moving the stroller and wheelchair along with our luggage. Might make a phone call to check that out.

Sorry if this whole thread sounds like I've just been thinking out loud. I'm used to having my bro-in-law along to help out. Plus, I suspect much of my overplanning is nothing but overcompensation for physical limitations. It seems like the less I can do physically, the harder I try to control the situation. ::Sigh:: But I'm in a good place now. :goodvibes Thanks for the help!

You are doing fine and the secret to a great trip is over planning and having the answers. Instead of standing in the hotel wondering what to do you now have a trip plan. Plan A is for bell services to schlepp everything over to the new hotel. Plan B is for them to schlepp everything but the stroller and wheelchair which means you take a taxi over or use WDW transportation to get to the new resort. Plan C is for you to call a taxi and they will schlepp everything over to the new hotel and it would not cost too much. My money is on plan A working out fine.

You are overcompensating because you want the best trip possible not because of a disability. The smart person has lots of back up plans. You plan to eat at a restaurant but they suddenly had to close on that day so in your head you pop out a back up plan for eating. You plan to see a ride and it is down so you know of other fun things to do while waiting for it to open up again. The secret to a great trip is having so many options that no matter what happens you will be prepared.

chin up and you will have a fun trip. I love helping people as do others on this board. Each time someone asks a question I seem to learn something new.

That site has a list of stuff you can do when not on the rides and shows as well as links to other sites with info.

Big hugs and everything will be fine. Keep asking so I can learn more about the parks.

I knew I should have waited until AFTER this trip to make the SugarFree Diet New Year's Resolution, especially since I have plans of desserting my way around WS :)

Exercise is good for you and thus as you exercise you will need lots of calories to fuel your hike around the world. Ice cream cones have fiber and fiber does the body good as well as the vitamins in the milk that goes into ice cream.:lmao: Remember sharing is caring and why not share a dessert with someone in the family. Get some ziploc bags and split the popcorn and loose candy. Your server will give you your dessert split onto two plates. My neighbor was very depressd and each day I would pick her up from work. I told her that she was helping my diet by eating some of my french fries and she would take one. It was not far but by the time I would get home she was happy, the fries were gone and she was ready to face cooking and home. Trust me, friends will help you stay on your diet by sharing your dessert.

Big hugs and chocikates
