Hi all,

I am due to travel to Orlando in October, & will be taking my disabled son Travis along with me.

He is registered Blind & is wheelchair bound, but being only 20 months old, does not as yet qualify for a UK Blue Disabled Badge ( he will get one at 2 yrs old)...

He also has a range of other medical problems, requiring me to carry a lot of medication for him, & should not spend long periods of time out in the heat.

Should we have to park, in one of the distant Parking lots, we would be unable to access the Tram system, as his wheelchair does not fold, and face a long walk in hot conditions..

If anyone can offer advice on this I would be gratefull,

Thankyou :)

May I suggest that as an alternative you drop him and one of the adults in your party off near the entrance, then the driver can swing around and park while the other can take Travis to a shaded area. At MGM, Epcot, and (I think) the AK there are stores located outside of the park entrances that are air conditioned, and might be a good place to wait.

If you are going in late October, it probably won't be an issue, as the weather is usually quite pleasant then, with daytime highs right around 80 and reduced humidity.

Also want to let you know that even having a handicap placard doesn't guarantee a spot in the disabled parking area, when that lot is full, it's full, and it does at times fill up.

Hi Anne,

Thanks so much for the advice...

I forgot to put in my post that I will be travelling on my own from the UK with Travis, as my husband is unable to accompany me this time due to work commitments..

This means I will have Travis & his wheelchair, plus all his Medicines and equipment, AND all the usual baby stuff as well!!!

Bad planning I know, but littleman and I need a holiday, as he has been through a lot this year including 3 different opperations.

I am very pleased to hear that the weather will be cooler than I thought it might be ( not too cool to swim though I hope, as Travis loves the water!

Whatever happens we will manage though :love2:

Best Wishes, Hazel

No worries about it being to cool to swim in October. Temp will still be in the 80's. I live in Florida-the weather should be fine:banana:

There is information about parking in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, near the top of the thread list on this board (look for the green arrow). I think the parking info is in post 8 of that thread.

Basically, you will need to talk to each CM directing traffic that you come to. Let them know that you have a wheelchair that doesn't fold and that you don't have a handicapped parking permit. They do save some spots at the ends of rows for situtations like yours.

Thanks for the info Sue...

I was hoping that might be the situation, as I don't want to take up a space, that someone with more problems might need...

It wouldn't be so bad if I had someone else with me that could wait with Travis at the gate , whilst I went back & parked, but sadly no takers this time when we decided to do our last minute trip... :sad2:

I must admit I was a little worried in case they put us in the Disabled area without a badge as I have heard that the USA police patrol regularly & ticket cars that don't have the badge..
Thats the last thing I want to happen on holiday.. :scared1:

As long as we are fairly close I don't mind a bit of a walk, as I could do with the exercise! :rotfl:

I've never driven when I go to WDW - I've always taken Disney transportation, but this year I'm staying off property so I will be transporting my mother and her ECV by SUV for parts of our stay.
To drop her off, do I go to the normal parking areas?
Will I be able to unload her ECV, reassemble it and get her settled without too many problems?
Do the lot attendant CMs allow this?

When you get to the toll booths, let them know you need to drop off near the park entrance first, and they will direct you. Have a great trip!
