Hi All,
Ive been getting mixed info on wether Disney and other theme parks should be collecting standard parking fees for vans that are modified for wheelchair access? One person from our rental van co says its a FL state statue that they can NOT collect these fees. IS this true??? Our parking attendant today says wecollect fees from everone regardless.
Thank you in advance!

You should ask your question on the DISabilities board below this one - they will know. I've never heard of free parking for modified vans.

I did a quick check and here is the rule: Section 316.1964. From what I understand, this law only applies to government owned/operated parking facilities, including 4 hours for meter parking, and airports. Private properties, such as theme parks, would seem to be exempt.

As far as I know, I have never read any information that states WDW is required to allow special equipment vehicles to park for free.

Edit to ask:

Since you asked this under "Resorts" do want to know if you would be required to pay at the actual resorts or just the theme parks? Resort (hotel) parking is free, except for valet, unless you present a handicap tag/plate. At the actual theme parks, unless you have an AP or are a guest at one of the resorts and present proof, you do have to pay to park.

Since this question isn't specific to resorts (and Disney resorts don't charge for self-parking anyway), I'm going to move it over to the disABILITIES board. :)

From what I understand you have to pay parking if you have handicap tags or not. If they charged you more than regular parking to use handicap parking that would be a problem, but they do not. If you are a resort guest and they charged you after you showed them your pass then you need to talk to the front desk of your resort and they will take care of it.

I believe this is correct so long as the van is of standard lenght...also, both resort guests (with parking pass) and/or Annual Pass holders are entitled to theme park parking w/o charge.

People are charged regardless on private lots. It's an issue of government parking vs. private (Disney) parking. For example, when I went on a cruise in Miami, the Port Authority garage (gov't parking) where I parked for 5 days charged me $0, because of my handicap plate. Others on the cruise paid (around) $75. However, different cities and counties might have different rules. You must do your research. If I didn't look up Miami Port Authority handicap parking, I would have paid the full amount and never known.

Disney will not charge for parking at their resorts. Dolphin and Swan do charge daily. Disney will not charge resort guests for parking at the theme park lots. Also Dolphin and Swan. Disney has valet parking at its resorts for around $16/day. However, if you have a handicap tag, valet is free. (Tip is expected) At Dolphin and Swan, handicap valet is reduced in price by about $4.

As was already posted, whether there is a charge or not varies from place to place, state to state and even somewhat between areas in a state.

A lot of times, it has to do with there being parking meters which are ot accessible to some people with disabilities, so unless they have someone traveling with them, they have no way to rah the meter.

And, as was posts, if you are staying at a WDW resort, there is no fee to park at the resort. You will also be given a parking permit with your resort and length of stay printed on it that allows you to avoid paying for parking at the parks. That is true for all guests.

Parking at Downtown Disney is free to everyone.
