We are staying at Wilderness Lodge for the first time in August.

We are normally value resort folks, so I have a question regarding the parking, and what to do with the car. (the 13 year old Oldsmobile which is taking the trip down!)

First, what happens when you pull up? We won't have many bags... we are used to how the All Stars work.. park in a check in parking spot, check in, and then park near your room and move your stuff in. I know they will do it for you there, but I am so used to doing it myself... if you know what I mean...

Then after that, where do you park? At the All Stars it is motel like, so our car was never really far from the room. How is it like at WL?

My DH is opposed to any type of parking which involves a fee. You don't have to pay to park at WL? Is it only valet? How far is self parking from valet? What charge is the valet? (Not very likely we will use it.. with our old 13 year old car!!!! )

Thanks!

You pull up to the lobby and check in. Then you can park your own car across the road into the lot. Not far at all. Very convenient. As I recall we also brought our own luggage up into our room. We're not the valet type either. Prefer doing it ourselves. It won't be confusing for you.

We were just there a few weeks ago. When we arrived at the gatehouse, we gave our name and said we were checking in. The attendant already had a parking "permit" ready with our name on it. He placed it on our dash and directed us to drive on in. The lot is very close, right in front of the hotel. Rather than using valet, or temporarily parking out front, we just parked in the lot. We got a pretty good spot near the front. We carried our bags in ourselves.

We handled it just the way Tina described when we were there in December.

Your car could be quite a hike from your room if you end up at the end of the wings - for example the North Wing end is a decent hike back to the lobby and hence parking lot but the benefit is that you are close to the pool, beach, geyser and boat launch - this aerial pic might help:

You could pull up to the front door, unload your bags and have one of your party stay with them. There's benches there and the front entrance is under a big roof. One of the staff may direct you where to pull your car and will probably come up to assist you. You can politely tell them that you're all set and can handle your own luggage, or accept their assistance. They'll store your luggage until after you've checked in and then it will be brought to the room.
Then drive straight ahead to park. The area of the lot to the far left is for valet parking and you can't get in there.
