We will be driving and have never been to WDW before. Where do we park and how far is it from the venue?

HDDR is held at Pioneer Hall at Fort Wilderness Campground. When you drive to the Campground you go in the Main Gate. There is a parking lot right there. Then you need to take an internal bus to the Pioneer Hall stop. I think it is about a mile. You should plan on 20 minutes once the bus comes. After the show you will have to wait for the internal bus to take you back to the front of the Campground and the parking lot.
I find it easier and more pleasant to take the boat from the MK to FW. The boat ramp is a short walk to Pioneer Hall.

Yep. But if the OP is coming from off site, parking at Ft. W would be free whereas if they took the boat from MK they would have to pay to park in the TTC lot. Depends on where they are starting from.

FYI, if you're staying at one of the resorts, there's a bus that will take you directly to your resort's instead of Downtown Disney or the parks. I found this out when we went to the HDDR during Thanksgiving. We weren't looking forward to going back to MK or DD and were very happy when we were told that the buses will take us back to our resort. You have to tell them which resort you're going to and they will tell you which bus to go on.

I believe the post show bus back to the resorts is for the second and third shows only.
The buses also are shared by several resorts, so depending on the order of your stop it can take quite a while to get back to your resort at the end of the night.
