I think I have a good understanding of the system. You can make three selections in advance per day at one park. So say if I'm going to lunch at Hollywood Studios but plan to spend the rest of my day at Magic Kingdom can I make all three of my reservations at Magic Kingdom even though it won't be the first park I visit? I understand that I can not use fastpass at HS if I plan to do this. Thank you!

1. Yes.

2. Correct.

There are multiple ways to approach FP+ booking.

Many details, logistics, and FP+ priorities found HERE.

Correct - at the moment, you cannot split your three FPs across parks. However, doesn't matter at which park you want to use those three...could be where you plan to be in the morning or later that night. Only trick is that you have to use those three (or at least get past their times) before you can then get another at a kiosk in a park. So if you hold your three original FPs to a park where you won't be until 5:00 in the afternoon, you are stuck with standby lines before that, regardless of what park you're visiting. If you use the three in the morning, then even if you switch parks, you could then use the in-park kiosks to add a new FP at the second park.

That's exactly how it works.

Thank you for your help everyone. I just like to make sure rather then be left in a bind later on.

If we rope drop one park, then hop to another, I always make my FP+ in the later park. It works great for us! Nothing like spending a nice morning at MK, and then know that your TSM at DHS is waiting for you!
