Hi! I'm planning a trip for Universal and IOA for my boyfriend's birthday and then we'll be going to WDW for my birthday, our trip will be 10 days total. I have a few questions since I haven't been to either Universal or IOA,

First, what are the heights of the rides? I tried to find this info on the offical web pages but couldn't find anything except for Dueling D. (I think it was 125 feet tall).

Also, what is the size of the 2 parks, are they comparable to Six Flags theme parks? I am trying to decide on how many days we will need for U/IOA and WDW.

I think 2 days at U/IOA would be enough, we want to do EVERYTHING, (except I don't get on high rides so really he'll be getting on EVERYTHING.)

My boyfriend has not ever been to Florida, so I am trying to plan everything (as far as days & how much time for each park, I don't want to plan too much :p ). Plus he only knows about WDW, I want to surprise him with going to Universal and IOA since he knows I'm afraid of heights he didn't want to 'waste the time'.

I plan to stay onsite, also I'm planning on going next May.

Any suggestions would be great, sorry for all the (wierd) questions, I just wasn't sure where to get my info.

Thank you for your time! :wave2:

If you're staying onsite you should be able to do everything in 2 days. Three would be better so that you can repeat your favorites and spend some time at the hotel.

I have no idea about the height of rides. You'll be able to see most of the rides beforehand and can tell if they have too big of a drop or are too tall. Spiderman is inside and there is an illusion of a drop and Mummy is an indoor coaster, but there aren't any real big drops (more like Space Mt as far as the actual coaster part of the ride).

Thank you for your information, I think I will still have fun even though I probably won't ride Hulk or Dueling D., I could handle a couple of rides at the Six Flags near me so I'm sure everything else will be fun!! I'm excited, thanks again. :p

Just wanted to say, "Have a great time"!! :) Universal and IOA are awesome parks and you will have a wonderful time! :)

Don't forget, if you guys wish to see any shows that you'll want to allow another day, since show times can conflict, and interfere with going on many rides. However, if you aren't planning on seeing many of the shows, at least see the Horror Makeup Show. It's not to be missed. :)

Universal parks are nothing like Six Flags. They are better. So basically if you like Six flags, which I do, you will LOVE Universal Orlando! have fun!

Hi, Welcome!!!

Staying onsite is the way to go......... fotl is beyond worth it!! You will become very spoiled with it! You will be amazed at just how different US/ IOA are from the Six Flag parks........ they are two different oddities!!! at opposite ends of the spectrum from each other........ trust me, they don't even compare!!! You will LOVE it, and will probably wish you'd allowed more time for US/ IOA......... if your bf likes "thrill" rides and coasters.......... he'll be in heaven. You may want to skip Hulk, and DD........ but I'd say you can do pretty much everything else. I'm a HUGE "drop" chicken, and I go on everything but those two rides.......... and I skip BTTF, only because it is a rough ride...... it's jerks you around, but since you've not ever done it......... do it, then decide!!!

What resort are you staying at??? We've stayed at the RPR, and it is gorgeous......... we never ever stay anywhere else!!! Either way, you'll be a pampered princess at any of the resorts....... they are first class all the way!!!

Enjoy your trip!!!!!

Universal offers ride guides on their website. We have a handicapped DD and use the Ride Guides to determine what she can or cannot ride. It is located under the ADA page and also they have a seperate link for height requirements.

We were there last summer and it was wonderful, I suggest the 5days for the price of 3 tickets so that you can enjoy everything including a special dinner at Emeril's or Hard Rock.

Have fun.

I found the heights at : http://www.ioacentral.com/

Here are a few I found:
Jurassic park river adventure culminates in an 85 foot drop.
• Maximum speed is 50 mph.
• The structure in which the drop is housed is 13 stories tall.

Hulk:
• The ride features one of the highest inversions ever built at 109 feet.
• The height of the coaster is 110-feet, and the drop heigh is 105-feet.
• The ride produces 4g’s.

Dr. Doom Freefall:
• Each tower is 199 feet tall.

Dudley:
• The finale is a 75 foot plunge that goes from a 60 degree angle to a 51 degree angle.
• Maximum speed is 45 mph.

Dueling dragons:
• Fire Dragon has a 105 foot drop, while the Ice Dragon has 95 foot drop. The height for both coasters is 125 feet.

Flying unicorn:
• The height of the lift hill is 43-feet while the first drop is 30-feet.

Doctor Doom also has a max speed of 40mph (upwards) so you feel 4 G's going up and -1 G going down (the first drop).

Mummy's max speed is about 42mph. The highest drop is about 30ft.

MIB's top speed is 5mph.

BTTF's top speed is 88mph. ;)

Thank you for all your replys, I wasn't sure if U/IOA was anything like Six flags, but I was wondering if they are the same size or similar?

We are going to stay at PBH, but now I don't know if we'll be going at all because I brought it up to my bf and he said he didn't want to take away from the WDW visit since he's never been, he would rather do 2 seperate trips, so now I'm a little disappointed. :(

Oh well, I guess now I can plan a seperate trip for that! :p

But again thank you to everyone that has posted, it is helpful info for when we do go to U/IOA.

In a way, his wanting to delay the USF/IOA trip might be better. Why? FOTL. If you were to so Universal first, you'd love the FOTL perk that you get by staying onsite. Once you shift over to WDW, you won't have that ability, which could make some parts of the trip not as great...

Plan for a separate Universal only trip for 3 days and you'll really enjoy it.

I plan to take him on a seperate trip, that is a very good point about FOTL, we would be really 'spoiled' and then have to wait in lines at WDW :p but I am now really excited about planning 2 seperate trips instead of doing it all at once! Thanks again for your help :D
