Finally I can get on this board! My AOL has been messing me up bigtime. OK, first trip to US/IOA and we leave this week!!!! Have been looking forward to this for months. DD is a big rollercoaster fan and waterbug... and broke her arm Friday- she's in a cast. I don't know yet if Dr will allow her to go on rides. I will talk to him on Wednesday. Is there a park policy regarding casts???? Are they a no-go as far as the rides are concerned? Also, does anyone know if those xerosox water proof cast covers really work? TIA.

I was in a leg cast over the summer and was never told that I could not ride a particular ride. I did not try the Hulk or DD since I knew that this would be a bit much on bones less than 2 weeks post break, but I did do the Mummy multiple times. Some rides may jostle the arm too much like certain coasters, so she will have to be careful or sit out of those on this trip.

My son and I rode the Popeye raft ride multiple times with 2 boys and one had an arm cast. They let us re-ride several times. I remember thinking how that cast could not have kept the all of the water out that was being poured on us.
They will let you ride whatever you can fit on.
Welcome to the Dis, by the way. Hope you have fun.

Last year we were there with an arm cast. We rode dueling dragons with no problem. Got back on the ride and they told my ds he had to change seats with me. The cast has to be on the outside so it cannot hit anyone. That was the only problem we had. On any of the water rides I made him wear a poncho (which he disliked so he started to just wrap the poncho around the arm.

My daughter went in August to USO/IOA with an arm cast. She could go on everything she could with her height requirement. (no DD, Hulk or Dr. Doom for her).

Mummy no problem, popeye not an issue, same with JPRA and Dudley.

Ask for the waterproof lining (will look like bubble wrap) underneathe the fiberglass cast. Ask for the Goretex wrap. With the Goretex wrap, you don't need a water sock. This is our fourth broken arm in our house, and this lining was a godsend. My daughter could shower, go on water rides, pool, etc.

Your insurance may not pay for the Goretex wrap, but for me it was only $10 extra. It was worth it for me.

Thanks for all the replies. We are so much more encouraged now.
Dd saw Dr this am, and he is very happy with the way the break is healing- looks like no pins will be needed. He said she can go on any ride she wants to!!!! I am a little skeptical. I did ask in the ER for her to have a waterproof cast but they told me that was not an option. We have purchased a xerosox cast cover that supposedly forms such a water-tight seal that you could surf in it.
We shall see. So we leave Friday, in lieu of any further mishaps. We have the 14 day flex passes. Our first trip to US/IOA!!!!! Not staying on site- we have a freebie week from my sister at her time-share about 18 minutes away. I think I have picked up enough tips here to have a very productive trip. Thanks again!
