Park Pet Peeves

Oh I know!! I just joined to have fun before my trip this Sat. and got tangled up in this mess and yea I got pissed. The reason I won't stop contributing is cause hmmm I think I have a right to my opinion. I feel like fighting for the Parks and people just being people faults warts and all. P.S. I give away pins so look forward to meeting the right kids!

I find it very interesting that you have stated on more than one occasion that you joined the Disboard for fun and to experience some Disney magic before your next trip..... and yet you have not visited a single other thread since you first posted here many days ago. Not saying you don't have a right to post and say whatever pops into your head. You obviously have very negative reactions to anyone who dares to find anything at WDW (or the guests in it) irksome. Just wondering why someone who joined a board for the purpose of magic and fun has confined herself to a single thread that she finds so disturbing.

Could you have a pet peeve? Could it be that it concerns other people who have pet peeves?

My number 1 park pet peeve: when people shamelessly steal a clearly delineated spot for shows/parades.

A related park pet peeve is when people shamelessly shove their way into a spot between a party.

Both happened to me during the Christmas season at Disneyland Park as my party was waiting for Fantasmic! It was the same couple doing it, too.

They also kept stepping over our feet when we were sitting down for a short while eating the delicious cheese-filled pretzels and other snacks popcorn::

Anyways, we had put a large Disney shopping bag to save a spot for my cousin. It was clearly a saved spot, and he had just left a minute ago. This couple simply walked up and over the bag (thankfully we didn't have anything fragile in there). If he had been gone for more than 10 minutes, then sure take the spot.

We kindly told the couple that my cousin would be coming back in a few minutes. And he did, he came back in a couple minutes to take his spot again.

The couple was quite stubborn. The girl shoved her way between me and my mom. Very rude. We told them to be social and at least ask if they can take a spot before doing what they wanted to do.

They were adults. I just wish they would have acted like adults. They spoke Mandarin so I'm assuming they're overseas tourists. If so, I understand why they'd act that way due to cultural differences. I also speak Mandarin and my family grew up overseas as well, but still we've never acted as bad as that couple.

If a little kid shoved his/her way through my party to get a better view, I wouldn't mind at all. They don't have a great vantage point to begin with due to their height, plus it's cute. And I certainly wouldn't want to spoil their fun by making them watch a show/parade behind me.

Once you're a teen, I would hope that you'd ask people if you can take a delineated spot.

Oh, and another pet peeve: marking a spot just so strangers won't stand next to you. I don't think that needs much explaining.

I don't let these annoying behaviors spoil my vacation though. You're in Disneyland with thousands of people and you're bound to bump into others who aren't courteous and respectful.

How many thousands of posts do you have?

You can find the number of posts a person has made by looking at the number right under their avatar. As for the rest of that post, I'm sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you were attempting to say. For some reason though, I have the feeling it wasn't anything complimentary.:confused3

Do you really love it? You just got busted. :rotfl::rotfl: I have never met so many mean people in my life unbelievable! So someone says why can't we all just get along you I agree and Slam bam who are you people? Really? How many thousands of posts do you have?

You lost me. However, the DIS is a very big place with many many thousands of threads with posts (and posters) of all kinds. Surely you can find one that won't upset you so much.

Hold on a moment............
Were you agreeing with me and meant to quote the other poster? If so, I apologize. By quoting ME, it seemed as though you were poking fun at me, not agreeing with me.

Dude I agreed with you. I'm, just here now to annoy Grandma. How do you know where I've been anyway that's just creepy

I think the summary of this thread is as follows:

Visitors would like it if other visitors would stay out of their way and not interfere in their vacation at all. Seems fair enough to me.

I can deal with everything else but it makes my skin crawl when kids latch onto me. Like we'll be watching fireworks and I feel little arms wrap around my leg. Or small kids will lay up against me in a line. Or (this really happened) a small kid tried to crawl into my lap during B&TB. I just don't understand how the parents think that is acceptable??! (Flame suit ready - I know others don't agree here. Before I get told that I will understand when I'm a mother, I'm 30+ and married almost 10 years. No kids by choice.)

Yes, I know I look "mom-ish" but get your kid off me!! :rotfl2:

I hate this as well, I have my own child I dont want anymore hanging on me!
:rotfl:

I actually had someone say oh can I hold your daughter while the parade was going on. (she had 3 kids, all boys) I was like um no I am holding my daughter.

To each his own, I guess, but two of the nicest memories I have on my many trips to Florida involved a little girl at Kennedy Space Center and a little boy on a bus on the way back from Hoop Dee Doo Review.

I was at an Imax show at Kennedy and a little girl that was with her mom and dad had stopped in at the center on their way to WDW from a (at the time) Big Red Boat Cruise. She talked to me all the time we were awaiting the start of the movie about the fun she had on the boat and how she was going to get to see Mickey tomorrow. As soon as it got dark and the movie started I felt this pressure against my arm and there she was, sound asleep leaning on my arm. Her parents tried to wake her but I told them to let her rest...she was a tired little sweetheart. I was also headed to WDW and I saw them a couple of times at two different parks...she recognized me every time and yelled hi and waved.

The second wasn't quite as dramatic as that one but on the bus ride back to the parking lot from HDDR, there was one small spot left in the rear seat of the bus. His parents were one seat up...I must have looked trustworthy because first they tried to get him to move but he said he wanted to stay there and I said, it was OK with me. No sooner had the bus started to move but that familiar pressure on my arm returned. He had fallen asleep. It was so cute.

I have to say that it had been years since my own children were young enough to do that. I loved it then and I love it now. I guess I must still have some soft spots left in my emotionally dead soul.

That is so sweet. I still remember "The Big Red Boat" and our family trip.

I had posted a few things earlier in this thread that were just minor annoyances to me...but, I just read the Smokers thread. I can't stress enough the importance of people staying in the designated smokers area. I had complained to the CBR when we stayed there. The smoking areas were on the paths were we run or walk. Kids and those of us that have health concerns/allergies don't need to be subjected to smoke..period. Smoking is a privilege not a right..imo. I've seen folks in wheelchairs smoking in the flow of traffic at Epcot during F&W! If you must smoke, do it away from the general public or try to quit before coming to WDW.

I certainly am tightly wound  and things get to me more than laid back folks (like my DH) but at Disney, I try to remember that people don't necessarily do things to annoy ME. For instance, those folks in the middle of the walkway just standing and staring at a map...or up at an attraction. They are in awe! Let them enjoy. I will happily walk quickly around people - I've gotten good at it :thumbsup2

Oh the strollers! I am SO glad we kicked our kids out of 'em early at Disney. It was more stressful dealing with other people's dirty looks than having a safe and easy mode of transportation for little ones that tire easily and can't keep up. So yes, I get nicked by the occasional stroller but heck, they are trying to get through just like me.

And the parades...ah the parades. I avoid the nasty people at all costs. Those that stake their claim and gosh darn it, they've paid taxes on that curb and they aren't moving! I prefer to sit near the folks that want to make room for more people and tell the late family to send their tyrant toddler to the front. I rather enjoy watching a child squeal with delight over Mickey than for me to get that perfect camera shot (that I could have seen in Disney advertisement anyway).

So what REALLY PEEVES me? The parents that yell...and I mean SCREAM...at their kids at the parks. Or grab them...or (and I've seen it) KICK them! :scared1: Well, we all get tired and sometimes we hear the whiney kids...or whiney parents. And sometimes the parents say the wrong things because they are hot and hungry too. I can deal with it and frankly, ignore it. But when they visibly are hurting their children or verbally abusing, that is my limit.

We can't all be princess: all the time, but we should at least not be :maleficen

-people who walk reallllllllly slowly in big groups, or just suddenly decide to stop walking right in front of you.
-when you're in the room at night and early morning and people are being super noisy as they walk by
-line cutters
-people who let their tiny little kids have their own bus seat when the bus is literally bursting (like after fantasmic or wishes) i mean, come one, in this case i think you can let one of them sit on your lap :/ just my opinion. i know my family always did this when my sis and i were little enough.
-people who take forever inserting a card and scanning a finger to enter the park

:sad2:

I am annoyed by the sink lingerers. We just got back from DL. Often my DH and I would take turns running to the bathrooms, so i tried to be quick, but the bottleneck was ALWAYS at the sink. I would be standing there waiting for someone who was carefully drying each finger while blocking the sink. So annoying! Grab your paper towels and step aside!

One thing that kind of cracks me up is to see folks USING paper towels at all to DRY their hands when it's 80+ degrees outside, especially when they grab a huge wasteful wad.

C'mon folks, your hands will AIR dry in about 20 seconds! No need to kill a tree!

As you said, they create a bottle neck for folks behind them.

My 2 pet peeves. People too close in line, and I don't mean like at the HM after the stretching room. I mean single file lines like EE. You don't have to be on my back side, you'll get there the same time if you put an inch or two between us. That did happen to me on EE, I could litterally feel the guys breath on the back of my neck. Whenever that happens I usually take a step back and they usually get the hint to get off of me.

Second pet peeve. Non smokers in the smoking section, and I don't mean people who are with a smoker either. I mean people who don't smoke or don't have anyone in their party who does. There are a limited number of smoking sections why would you want to go there if you don't smoke? In HS there is a smoking section by some eatery, can't remember where, but people were in the smoking section just eating lunch. I come over to smoke then they want to give me a dirty look. You decided to sit in one of the few places I can smoke and want to look at me like I've killed someone? Really?

Thanks for letting me vent.

I forgot one other. The smell of turkey legs, do they have to make them smell so good? Come on now!!!!!!!!!! I don't care if I've just eaten lunch, the smell of those things just makes me want to gobble one up. The sad thing is I've never had one, always wanted one just never have had the room for one.

Yeah that is a major thing for me don't get too close to me unless you get stepped on or elbowed :thumbsup2

I'm a non-smoker but can definitely understand the 2nd pet peeve. I'm a HUGE anti-smokiing person (sorry) so I can't help but give you a dirty look.:snooty:

I know you are in the designated spot and I absolutely have no right to be upset with you but I can't get over smokers. But you are absolutely entitled to be annoyed by peeps like me. Guilty as charged. So I'm apologizing to anyone in advance if they are a smoker and at WDW when I am there in 2 weeks.
