Park Hopping using our rental vehicle VS using Disney transportation

We are staying offsite so we will have a rental vehicle. I have been reading that using the Disney transportation can take approximately 1 hour going from park to park.

Would I be better off using my rental vehicle when hopping?

In our experience it's quicker to drive except possibly going between MK and EPCOT on the monorail. It may also depend on the crowd levels in the parks. We go in January and driving was a snap. Sometimes we could park close enough to a park entrance and walk in instead of waiting for the tram.

However, a private automobile will usually complete the journey in less time compared with using the bus.

To some degree the answer is both. We use the car to get to AK since it is further out and by itself. You can walk between Epcot and the Studios (exit through the International Gateway) in about 20 mins (or boat ride it a little longer time). You could drive from MK to Epcot or just take the monorails.
There really are advantages and disadvantages to both ways.
