Park hoppers?

I'm thinking of dropping the Hopper option on our December trip. Our last Disney vacation the kids were younger so our Epcot and DHS days were cut short and we hopped over to Magic kingdom for extra time there. Our next trip, however we will probably spend more time at each of those parks. We also have 2 full days at MK. Finally, since our trip is in Dec. MVMCP cuts MK hrs on the days that we would have hopped anyway. So, I really think hoppers would be a waste of money but I'm still afraid I'll regret not having the option to hop! What do you think? Should we save the $ and not have hoppers this time? Will I just call to drop the hopper option if I decide to? Thanks!

I'm sure you can just call and have it removed!

We're going in December but have decided that Park Hopper would be beneficial for us due to shorter hours at MK some nights as well as wanting to see all the Christmas stuff.

If you do cancel it and decide you need it later, you can always add it once you get there, but since the PH changed and it's one price whatever day you add it, the best use of it is to have it the first day.

We love using the hopper pass when we go but we took our first Nov. trip in 2013 and only used it once. I'm not sure if it was because of the shorter hours or our traveling companions. The people that went with us had never been before and were not able to do as much walking.

We did the park hopper option, and only used it once. Next time I wont choose it because if you plan your day around one park you should be good. A few times we planned on switching parks midday, but things happen, and next thing you know its 8pm, and we're still in the same park.

We just got back from 7 nights at the Coronado Springs Resort 5/29 - 6/5 with a 7 day Park Hopper ticket. We hopped every day, sometimes more than once a day. The park to park buses work well, but we usually went back to our resort for a rest before heading back. This way we were able to see Wishes a few times, Illuminations a couple of times, and the unbelievable fireworks at Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekends. The Symphony in the Stars show really left Wishes in the dust (and I really like Wishes). We like to end our days at either the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, so Park Hoppers is always a must.

Changed?

AFAIK, Park Hopping has always been "all or nothing."

It's not so much that the "best" use of it is to have on the first day...
it's just that having it early-on will allow the use of it earlier in the trip,
but that would only be valuable if you actually had need to use the hopper feature early in the trip.
Simply "having it" earlier in the trip is neither an advantage or a loss.

When we have gone before, the park hopper option price was essentially prorated based on the number of days left. There was a significant price difference from adding it to a 7 day ticket before our trip and adding it on our last two days of a 7 day ticket

I'm pretty sure that isn't true. Or at least it hasn't been in the last 5 years.

It may seem like that, but it is $60 per ticket, whether you are adding for 2 days or 10. It isn't really prorated - it is just a set price. However, I understand how looking at the value (I got 7 days for $60 or 2 days for $60) makes it seem that way.

I mean this was 2000 and 2003, over 10 years ago. This was the last time I've gone on a package, as having AP from 2004 until last year. So, the change is new for me, sorry for the confusion!! (And I wasn't paying for it myself then either)

When my kids were younger, having a Park Hopper didn't make sense. We took the parks slower and always went back to the resort for a break. Sometimes we never even went back if the kids were too tired. So having Park Hoppers just didn't make sense to us at the time.

But now that they're older and have been to WDW quite a few times, they're pros and want to run, run, run. They go tackle all the rides they want to see and then they're ready to move on to the next park. So now, we wouldn't go WITHOUT Park Hoppers.

But basically, it boils down to the needs and tastes of your family. If you decide not to take the PH's, just try doing the parks a little more slowly than normal and see how it works for your family. You can always add them if needed.
