I have a question. We always stay at the Polynesian but this trip we are going to give the WL a try we are very excited about staying at the WL but my DD (6) is so upset thinking that she will not be able to ride the monorail on this trip. I have explained that we will catch the monorail to go to EPCOT and that we can even take the boat from WL to CR and take the monorail to MK, however, she really wants to go to the Poly one day and ride the monorail to MK. I know there are restrictions at the CR regarding parking if you are not a guest but does the same go for the Poly. Can you park there and take the monorail to MK?

No, you can only park at a resort that you are not staying at for a meal or a visit to that resort. They usually give you a three-hour (or close to that) parking pass.

It will cost money but valet park then you can leave it all day, or so I have heard.

You could take the boat to the MK and then board the resort monorail and visit the Poly. That will give her 2 types of transportation without bothering to move the car. I'm sure she'll have fun doing that. Parking at hotels became out of control with a lot of non guests filling up the lots. Disney does keep control to keep the parking available for the guests staying at a particular resort.

The resorts do not provide parking to access parks, except for guests staying there. Dsineyfan55 had a great suggestion.

Since you're staying at WL, you can also take the boat to the CR, and catch the monorail there.

That's what we always do. We enjoy the boat ride as well as the monorail. I know that it does take longer to do that, though.

Have a great trip!

It might take a little longer but it is entertaining. I would much rather do this than walk to my car and drive to the Poly.

We were told by the parking attendant that if you are going to valet park, you can stay all day and that it was fine to go into the parks. This in no way intrudes onto the guests paying to stay there, since you are not taking up a parking spot in the self park lot. There will always be enough valet parking, and they are more than happy to take your money for it.

The answer was given due to the fact that yes they are more than happy to take your money, they could care less about policy as they are outsourced and do not work for Disney.

Write Disney and ask them if you can park in valet and go to a park from a resort where you are not staying and the answer will be no.

As to intruding; if the valet fills up with nonresort guest; where does the resort guest that is staying there valet park??. :confused3 And yes at times the valet lot fills up and this practice caused valet prices to go up.

Why not just park at the TTC and take the monorail from there?
Parking is free to WDW resort guests.

I never really understood this mentality. If the person in front of me (the valet) is telling me it is ok, I am supposed to tell them they are wrong, and be a martyr to "Disney Policy?" When I check into my DVC villa, and I am told by the person checking me in that even though I am just renting points, I am able to valet park for free, am I supposed to tell them that no, that is only for DVC *members*...I am in fact NOT allowed?

The can enforce the rules when needed (high capacity at the resorts) and they can also opt to be lax about the rules when they can. I will continue to ask, and if I am told it is ok, then I will do it and not feel one bit guilty!

It's called being a thoughtful citizen of the world. If all you do is look out for "number one", and don't care who you inconvenience by your actions because it made your life a little nicer, then the world will continue to spiral down a sad path. Just think of others when you make these choices (I am not talking to the OP, but to the person who wants to disobey rules for their convenience).

To the OP, the TTC is so close to the Poly, you can walk between them. Park in the regular lot, take the tram up to the monorails and boats, then walk over to the Poly. Take in the grounds, maybe grab a bite or visit the beach, then hop your monorail as you please!

But if the valet attendant tells you it is ok, don't you think it is because they know something that you don't? They are aware of the parking capacity and expected crowds for the day. If the parking gets more crowded than they expected, then they will just have to run a little further to retrieve cars. If they offer, why would you not take them up on their offer?

I think they have rules so they can enforce them when need be (crowds), and when they don't have to enforce them, it is just a little "added magic" in your Disney vacation. I never said to sneak around and "look out for number one." If you reread my post, you'll see that I said... if you are told it is ok, then it is ok, and take the added bonus, but just don't expect it every time you go!

I have asked at the front desk at both the CR and BW if it's okay to valet park for the day if you are going to a park after eating at the resort. Both times I was told it was fine.
I also asked at BW at the valet station...before it was outsourced a few years ago. Again, I was told it was fine.
But, both places told me that if it was one of the busier times of year, July 4, Christmas..that sort of thing...they may ask to see resort ID.

If the OP wants to ride the monorail, I would suggest just parking at the TTC and either riding to MK from there, or walking over to the Polynesian and hopping on there.

The thing I don't get is this.....people say it's better to pay to valet park at a resort that is close to a park...the Polynesian for instance. So...they're paying about the same, more because of a tip, than it costs to park in the main lot. Then, they have to take transportation back to the resort, get their car and then drive off. At BW, it's a long walk from either Epcot or DHS to the front of BW...the boats take a fair amount of time to boot. I can't imagine paying to park at these resorts because it's 'easier' than paying to park at the park lots. CR? You have to walk either 8 mins or take the monorail then reverse it when leaving the park at night. I just don't see the point. It is usually not a time saver. Now....don't get me started on just parking at those resorts, not even valet parking. That's a huge no-no!!!

Our last trip we ate at 'Ohana for breakfast. It wasn't a park day but we did take the time to ride the monorail over to MK, then take a boat back to the Poly where our car was parked (we did valet). But you can ride the monorail if you park at the Tick and Transportation Center. You may be able to get on the resort monorail from there, too and stop at the Poly.

I do hear what you're saying. But the valet isn't going to ask everyone what they are doing there, are they? So they likely aren't changing their policy based on whether it's busy or not--they will just take your keys and wish you a good day. Their job at Disney is 99% of the time to find a way to say yes to everyone. Even those who might be taking advantage when they shouldn't...

I will agree with you that if they say yes, what else are you to believe? I would just be cautious about the grey areas, and stick with what you know--the parking lots at the hotels are intended for people who are staying at the hotel, or who are going to dinner or entertainment at that hotel. Everything else is questionable as to whether it is overstepping appropriate bounds of use for that parking lot. I think for the original poster, this answers the question: if you know you are parking someplace to go to the park as your primary destination, then do not park at another resort's parking lot.

Yes, I understand what you are saying, and thank you for being civil about it.:goodvibes I guess I am thinking of some particular times when we valet parked to dine at a resort, and mentioned going to the parks later, and the valet said, "Oh, you can just ride the monorail from here, your car will be safe!" When I hear those words, I do let myself enjoy the extra "perk." We like to dine at Chef Mickey's for breakfast when we go to WDW, and we go on "off season" (although it seems there is not true "off season" anymore:sad2: ) and we are always told to go and enjoy MK for the day when we park.

How about going to a resort for lunch or dinner when you are at the MK and then going back to the park after. This is legit, you get a break, and you get to ride twice without a long wait or inconvenience!
