With the Olympics this year I expect more American and international visitors. When we had London 2012 London itself in the weeks leading up to, during and after saw a decrease in visitor numbers and a huge increase in prices.

Although a different league nearby (comparrible distance of DLP to Central Paris) Theme park Thorpe Park saw a huge decline in visitor numbers even though it had a massive new investment from the ride SWARM. This was attributed to the Olympics. Other attractions reported this too.

It's been announced that the cost of Metro and train travel will DOUBLE. Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...oQFnoECCoQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2UN1W_1Yz3zdZkudkVM8yS

For anyone who's not been around during modern Olympics road travel is very difficult. (Olympic lanes are created for officials only) Lots of attractions and locations will have additional security and could be completely closed.

This could all be a positive for a trip to DLP or a negative so please bare in mind when planning a trip from USA.

It's also worth pointing out to American visitors that in Europe and in many other parts of the world the Paralympics are just a big a deal and those dates fall after the main Olympics. (Not just a highlights package!!!!) These athletes are given just as much respect.i

It would be good to also note security will be super tight and cuts to numbers have already been made twice: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...cQFnoECCwQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1rLpwYuSW8Pe1ln_nnMZJD

Eurostar has warned of issues when going to London because of the extra traffic.. alot of people are basing themselves in London and going to Paris on almost a daily basis.

If your visiting have fun but it could swing either way. It will be interesting to see what Disney does during the events.. I expect the drones will play apart!

Keep this updated for advice for travelers.

Yeah, I have heard how certain tourist areas in cities that hosted the Olympics in the past were basically dead, while everyone was prepared for huge crowds.

I am sure there will be some people who go to the Olympics and will squeeze in a trip to DLP. But I think it is less than DLP hopes and I think there will be more regular visitors will avoid going this Summer season.

I think it could be empty, but maybe families of athletes…I coul see them going to DLP.

We originally planned on going during the Olympics because my 50th birthday is the weekend of the opening ceremonies and my husband’s company is a major sponsor. My hubby said we could have gotten into some events. Then we looked at flights from eastern USA to Paris…nope! So expensive! Hotels, too! We are now going in late September.

Just for a reference: My husband and I are arriving in Paris on July 21st. We have a service picking us up from CDG and going to Chantilly for a couple of hours, then dropping us off at Disneyland Hotel.

We will be at Disney until July 24th, then we head over to Paris until August 11th for the Olympics. At first, we had planned to do Disney after the Olympics but I didn't want to do Disney exhausted so we switched. We have friends who are doing Disney immediately after the Olympics, and we have other friends that will just do Disney as a daytrip from Paris during the Olympics (if I love it and have the time, I might join them too).
So just in my group of friends - everyone is doing something different regarding their Disney trip.

This will be our 6th Olympics, and we are very excited!

We'll be there in the middle of June. Do you think the Olympic effects will extend that far in advance?

I think it's hard to predict - there may be some limited effect. Locals and others may be pushing their visits to avoid the Olympic period. However, as others have posted, sometimes the Olympics has the reverse effect (for example, for the London Olympics many attractions saw a sharp decline in crowds before and after the events as everyone concentrated their trip plans to coincide with the games.

Our trip is a gift for our daughters graduation and an unfortunate overlap in the Olympic City - but right before they begin. She’s always dreamt of going to Paris so it was her choice for destinations.

We arrive in Paris July 8, DLP July 15, back to Paris July 18 and head to London on Eurostar July 20. Return to US July 23. Nothing was inexpensive. And all research has told us to prepare for added travel time, traffic, closures, and crowds everywhere. A “slower” DLP would be a nice break/surprise mid-trip but we will not hold our breath!

Just jumping in on here to see if anyone else has similar plans and to gut check how crazy our idea is... my sister and I are planning to split our days between DLP and the Olympics. We booked a room at the newport bay club 12 months out (it was actually cheaper then getting an airbnb in Paris - and we get daily tickets for DLP!) and for two of the days we will take the train early in the morning to watch the games we already have tickets for. Knowing that the city of Paris could well be a disaster due to level of crowds etc, each day we will make the decision to hang around in Paris a bit more, or leave early on the train to get back to DLP to enjoy the park. Are we crazy?

Yuo might want to check again. I've read many hotels and AirB&B are still empty because people were scared by the outrageous prices. It's likely prices might drop.
That said, Disney and Olimpycs in the same trip, sounds amazing!

Not really sure how this happened, but I will be in Disneyland Paris 26 - 27 July. The first dates of the Olympics.
Onsite hotels are expensive, however...

Restaurant availability is wide open.

For the 26th I can basically get a reservation at any restaurant (for 2 people) exception is the Downtown restaurant at the Marvel hotel. And the two restaurants at the Disneyland Hotel, as I am staying offsite I do not have access to these. However, whenever I see a pictures of either of the two restaurants on social media, there are plenty of empty tables in the background.

Prices are dropping.
As we now have an off site hotel booked, I kept checking if the prices dropped for onsite.

They did, since I checked last week, 26/27 July
Sequoia and Cheyenne dropped 100 euro per night, both at 345 euro.
New port bay dropped even more and is now at 375.
The Disneyland Hotel dropped almost 400 euro and is at 1150 euro a night.

With my previous post about restaurant availability, I am not seeing the crowds they are hoping for this summer.

Another clue to support my theory that this Summer in DLP might not be as busy as they hoped with the Olympics being in town. ;-)

DLP just sent me an e-mail saying that Friends Tickets will be available from tomorrow 11 June to 30 September. So: all Summer.
Friends Tickets are discounted tickets annual passholders can buy for friends and family.
Prices vary, but the bottom price is €47 for tickets most days in September.

Do you need a Paris address to get the friends tickets?

No, all you need is a valid annual pass. It is not based on residency.

You should be able to buy them online... however, technical issues with the launch made that you can buy them at the moment at the Studios entrance.

I will be in Paris for the Olympics at the end of July. We have one free day - Sunday, July 28th. Is it crazy to try to do just a day trip that day? Will it be so crazy/take too long with travel that it wouldn’t be worth it?

Not crazier as the rest of the year. What we see at the moment are some clues that DLP will not be as busy due to the Olympics as they hoped. Like, AP holders can buy discounted tickets for friends and family, on Thursday a hotel discount for AP holders will be dropped. There seems to be less air traffic on the routes to Paris.

People seem to avoid Paris this Summer.

So, if you want to do a day trip to Disneyland Paris, this time of this year shouldn't stop you.

Depending on where you are staying in the city, it will take about an hour by train (RER) to get to Disneyland Paris. Only you can decide if that is too long for you :) but plenty of people have done it.

The hotel discounts for AP holders have dropped and it's a good one mainly for July, but also in August there are good discounts.
We went from paying 370 euro per night for Santa Fe, to 356 euro per night for Marvel.

Cheapest now is a room only for 186 euro a night in Santa Fe for my dates. This is insane for this time of year. It's the Summer holidays.
Disneyland Hotel is excluded and was still 1.200 euro a night.

And more clues that it is quiet... during my dates 26-28 July (opening weekend of the Olympics), the lowest AP tier no longer has black-out dates. They can use their AP this weekend.

They have added Olaf back to the entertainment schedule as of August 1st.

We have done DLP twice. Both times just for one day and we took the RER train to DLP in the morning and returned that night. It’s a long day but we can still do it in our late 60s.
