Parents Who Drink Alcohol While Taking Their Kids Trick or Treating...

?? little slow tonight, who is being sneaky? (the starbucks cups?)......

here, everyone had their poision as it was, beer bottle, I personally had a wine glass hand painted for halloween! No sneakiness, kids knew what everything was/is.

What do you think mom and dad would do if a police car happen to drive by? Um, they would HIDE it. If they happen to get caught, they have just created a very awkward moment didn't they. Ahhhh the memories of childhood.

I can see it now 20 years later....Remember the time mom and dad were drinking on Halloween night....

Cinerbelle, I think what you're missing is that many DISers believe Halloween is as much an adult holiday as it is a kid's one and that trick or treating is not all about the kids, it's also for adults. That was a surprise to me too since everywhere I've lived, trick or treating is about little ones, but it seems to be common.

Ah, code enforcement by me couldn't care less. They're stationed in our neighborhood because of the crowds that come. We thank them for being here. We feed them. They appreciate the neighborhood comraderie - it helps make their jobs easier.

If, at any time in the past 15 years a single code officer said, "Sorry folks - you're violating the code - no open containers" we'd have stopped the practice long ago.

We're a wonderful neighborhood filled with great families who all watch out for each other and celebrate fun times with each other.

If I lived on some main thoroughfare...it would be a different story. If I lived in a neighborhood with a different kind of "feel"...it would be a different story. But, I don't. We have this thing down to a science here. It's a tradition and we LOVE IT!

What's so funny is that our kids have such great memories of the fun times, that as young adults, they come home from college or from where ever they are now to join us. This year, my 21 year old son, my friend's 21 year old son and his friend from college and others came back to the roost to celebrate with us "old folks" instead of at bars with their friends, because of the fond memories they've made here over the past 15 years. Our neighbor's kids came with their own young children. Our former babysitter came from an hour away - she's 28!

I think some people are just so judgmental, they can't see there are different situations for every story that's told and just paint the whole universe with one broad brush.

I noticed the same thing and thought it was inappropriate! I don't know why, it just doesn't seem right. I thought it was a redneck thing, but apparently a lot of people are doing this now.

I suppose you have never broken a law when in the presence of your children. Have you ever gone over the speed limit? Have you ever used your cell while driving?

I do try not to speed. That is different than intentionally choosing to break the law and noticing that you are going a little over the speed limit. Talking on the cell phone is not illegal where I live, so, I guess the answer is NO!

We saw a family with a backpack cooler and were totally jealous. We are already making plans to take a cooler next year. Never thought someone would have an opinion about it. I forgot about the DIS :lmao:

One of my good friend's DH is a cop...who carries a beer while taking the kids TOT (while off duty).

I don't see it being a huge issue, and we certainly wouldn't hide it. If a cop stopped to ask my DH about the bottle, he'd show it to him and then pour it out if asked. I'd be shocked if that hit the radar on Halloween night, unless there was some sort of disturbance on the street.

I really think you are overreacting on this one.

Hubby thinks all the defensiveness on this Thread is derived from guilt from people maybe second guessing what they were doing last night??? He said he enjoyed taking the kids ToT'ing (safely) and then enjoyed his beer in the spa after they went to bed.

Just load up the hydration backpack :thumbsup2 This one holds 70 oz so it should last through the T or T round.

A law is a law ;)
BTW, I had no idea that there were still places where cell phone use while driving was legal.

OMG your hubby was drinking in the spa :scared1: Doesn't he know that alcohol and water don't mix :confused3

Or, we are just pointing out how ridiculous you are being :confused3

What if one of the kids woke up sick??? You would be too impaired to look after them. Very irresponsible.

FTR I didn't drink anything last night, so (at least for me) your husband's "theory" is bunk.
