Parents Who Drink Alcohol While Taking Their Kids Trick or Treating...

That sounds really good!!!

I think I need to send one of the kids downstairs to grab a Mike's Pomegranate lemonade for me after reading this thread!! :thumbsup2

It IS so good, but they go down way too easily! (it's called a Sea Breeze) LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Mike's!!! I have a regular lemonade Mike's in the fridge, that will do til I get some grapefruit juice.

I have to join the "trick-or-treating and alcohol don't mix" group. Drinking while chaperoning children walking down city streets in the dark on an evening known for mischief seems like a foolish combination.

I agree.. I also believe there are many places where it's not legal..

When did this become okay? I saw soooo many parents drinking alcohol while walking the residential area with their kids. I saw parents with wine glasses and bottles of beer. I almost said something about it on Facebook today, but then some of my Facebook "friends" started posting pics of themselves doing this exact thing. Is this normal? I am far from a prude, but I just think it is WRONG to take your kids Trick or Treating while drinking... what kind of example is that setting? They weren't even trying to hide it. Ugh... tell me if I am just turning into an old lady with my thinking! I am only in my 30's!

I don't think it's right to hide alcohol from children. I see nothing wrong with having a glass of wine or a bottle of beer when taking your kids trick-or-treating if your town allows it (I don't know much about public drinking laws). That said, I've not had a drink since...well, I don't know how long ago. I think it was New Year's Eve.

A woman I golfed with over the summer made a 1/2 Mike's Regular and 1/2 beer concoction. That was actually pretty good-and I don't like beer.

Like I said earlier...I'm not opposed to drinking around kids, but drinking while taking them out trick or treating I don't get at all. Why? Why do you need to drink on the street for that hour you are out with your kids? It is illegal here... I don't think it is good practice to teach my children it is okay to break the law.

Because I'm a party girl and just love to set a horrible example for my children...because I just can't control myself and me and my friends (the school librarian, anesthesiologist, several attorneys, orthodontist and so on) are just the dregs of society and are raising little hellions who will destroy the social mores of our country. That's why.

Geez...you'd think we were handing out Budweisers to seven year olds...

I walk around my neighborhood (which is, oddly enough, a circle - just like World Showcase) with my friends and our children (and friends who have no children) to celebrate a fun day - just like I walk around World Showcase and enjoy a drink or two along the way.

It's just the way we roll...

No thanks on that one..sounds like it might ruin a perfectly good Mike's!

Oh please...city streets? lolol

I live on 3/4 of an acre in a residential subdivision with 48 other homes.

The biggest thing that's ever happened here is some wild youth stole all our mailbox flags - and it happened in the middle of the summer - oops - sorry, we had our pear tree toilet-papered last Halloween. And, some unruly youth left a shaving cream can on my front yard this year.

Honestly - I think being a good parent is assessing a situation and behaving accordingly. Making a ridiculous blanket statement like the above and expecting it to fit every situation is bad parenting.

As for great drinks - Cherry vodka and lemonade - Delicious!

So, have you ever driven over the speed limit with your children in the car???

Nope, I am perfect. Give me a break. I am just saying I don't think it necessary for a bunch of adults to be walking down the street ILLEGALLY drinking alcohol when they should be watching their children.

My DH and I were just talking about this last night.

We saw this too. Not only is it illegal to have an open container in public where I live, but this is a night for the CHILDREN!!!! C'mon can't mom and dad put the drink down just long enough to make it around the neighborhood?:confused3

I am not against drinking in front of children, breaking the law in front of them is another story. People are just teaching their children to be sneaky and that it is okay to break the law if you are sneaky about it. Parents are also sending the message that you can't have fun unless you drink. Instead of trick or treating, guess what little Johnny will be doing in a few years on Halloween night.....ummmm DRINKING!!!!

Even if it is legal where you live, it is the parents job to keep their children safe that night. Not to become impaired by alcohol.

Just my $0.2

What if it's legal in your area? I honestly am not sure if it's legal in my area, but I have crossed the street to a neighbor's house with a beer in my hand and the police were just a couple of houses down at the time....they didn't say anything to me.
And DVC Jones, how come your opinion is worth 20 cents instead of two ;)

the big difference is that epcot isn't on a potentially busy street, on a very car accident prone night of the year.

apples and oranges. :confused3

No one drives in our neighborhood during prime T or T hours. I didn't see a single car drive down our street from dark until after 9:00. Heck, even on most days we don't get more than a dozen or so cars on our street.
