Parents Who Drink Alcohol While Taking Their Kids Trick or Treating...

I have never seen or heard of rinking while trick or treating :confused3 must not be something that is ever done in the area I grew up and live in now. Parents I saw last night had Tim Hortons or Starbuk cups...but no beer or wine that I could tell...unless it was in the coffee cups?

I must live in a very sedate neighborhood.
Starbuck cups are THE BEST to use for a portable glass of vino. Nobody ever questions what is in a Starbucks cup :rotfl2:

So OP, you have NEVER had a drop of alcohol in front of your children, ever??? Wow!!! Sorry, I don't see that there is anything wrong with this what so ever. How is it any different than sitting at home having a drink? I think some people are in for a very long and stressful life if things like this bother them.

Like I said earlier...I'm not opposed to drinking around kids, but drinking while taking them out trick or treating I don't get at all. Why? Why do you need to drink on the street for that hour you are out with your kids? It is illegal here... I don't think it is good practice to teach my children it is okay to break the law.

Are you so sure it is illegal? Look up the law for your area and you might find out differently.

I guess I just grew up in a completely different time or something. That never happened in the neighborhood where I grew up. Now it's the norm.

I don't care if people drink, I really don't (as long as they're not driving), but do parents really need to drink when they're watching their children? There's plenty of time for it at home or after the kids are in bed. When your sole attention should be on making sure your kids aren't littering, running out in front of cars, and doing all sorts of other stuff, I kind of expect the parents to be fully alert, which doesn't happen when you've been drinking.

holy cow, how could you ever shower? get dinner ready? do you even have children?

Thank GOD I don't live in the OP's judgemental 'hood....Halloween is DD's bday...aside from her celebration and Halloween, DH and I definitely TOAST to having made it another year as parents....last night we had her bday party, with alcohol (she and other dd only kids in attendance as I only threw it together since W).....prior to the party we had a block party with many adults and kids from ours and surrounding neighborhoods...we hang out, finger foods, drink for big and little people and then TOT....most houses had beers to the grown ups as well....we all TOT together and one paretn usually runs ahead to their respective house to give out the goodies. This was the 6the annual. Here's (and CHEERSSSSSSS) to many more!

oh and no sidewalks here...and most have two wagons...one for the kids and one for the rolling bar! ;)

Personally, I think our sociey has done our youth a disservice by teaching them that it is totally wrong to drink alcohol until the magic age of 21... at which time, it's perfectly acceptable to drink astounding quantities as long as they aren't driving and/or don't require a stomach pumping. It would be far better if we taught our youth about imbibing responsibly and appropriately than the current "alcohol is evil" treatment.

I couldn't agree more!!

Drinking while ToTing must be a regional thing. I live in the South...and I've never seen anyone drink anything alcoholic while taking their kids ToTing (not that I see anything wrong with it).

Come to Savannah, we're a party town.;) The only reason I wasn't drinking and Toting last night was that I was afraid I would be too far away from my house and need to tinkle! Yep, I think about things like that. But it sure would have been nice to have a Ruby Red Grapefruit juice w/cranberry juice and vodka along, it was pretty warm out!

No one NEEDS to drink while they are out, just like the kids don't NEED to TorT. And anyway, how does anyone know what another is drinking out of their cup (including their children) if it is pitch black out?

When we walked up to a little cul-de-sac party going on for the adults handing out the candy there, on the table was a glass of wine and I asked if that was MY treat?!

Is this thread making anyone else thirsty?:lmao: I'm off to grab some more white zin.

Drink or Treat!! We do it every year. We have one of those neighborhoods where everyone comes to trick or treat. We adults have as much fun (if not more) than the kids.

We walk the neighborhood with the kids - filling up at friends's houses along the way. We end up back at my house and my friend's house across the street. We don't get "drunk" - but enjoy a few drinks. There are two parents who do not like to drink, so in the event there's an emergency that inolves driving a vehicle - we have two very capable adults. After the kids trick or treat and we drink or treat, we have a huge buffet, the kids trade their candy, play manhunt, watch movies - and we adults get a night to socialize and enjoy each other's company.

Gosh, no different to me than grabbing a margarita or a beer while walking around World Showcase with my kids...:confused3

Anyone who is aghast by this is more than welcome to skip my house...

Sounds like my neighborhood and yes I did partake in the activities.

I walked around with my dd's last night with a drink. I wasn't drunk. I was perfectly capable of watching my kids while they went to houses.

We always have all the family/friends kids here before the TOT'ing for pizza/wings. I always make a nice punch for the kids and beer/wine is out for the adults.
It was really chilly with the wind her last nite, I wish I would have thought to put some wine into a to-go cup. ;)

I don't think it's a big deal-taking a glass with you unless you're already drunk :rotfl:

We walked around with our Starbucks mugs last night........drinking coffee or hot chocolate with Baileys. YUMMMMMM!!!!

Necessary? Nope! But it's a nice little way for us mommies to have our own fun while the kids are mad-dashing from house to house.

I've got a nice chilled bottle of chard open (La Crema) - anybody want some?

In the early '70's, my dad used to take my sister and I to a restaurant/bar on Halloween. It was next to the local store that gave out full sized candy bars (that was how he enticed us into the longer walk to get to this place) and the bar was a neighborhood joint that served pizza and had pinball machines. Dad would stop for a beer and my sister and I would have a Coke and we'd all share a pizza. :thumbsup2 It was always one of the highlights of our evening and we looked forward to it every year. The pizza and the time hanging out with Dad, not the beer. ;)

I have to join the "trick-or-treating and alcohol don't mix" group. Drinking while chaperoning children walking down city streets in the dark on an evening known for mischief seems like a foolish combination.

Oh, good idea--too bad we don't go out with the kids any more--we actually let them go by themselves and we stay home and drink :lmao:.

That sounds really good!!!

I think I need to send one of the kids downstairs to grab a Mike's Pomegranate lemonade for me after reading this thread!! :thumbsup2

Hot chocolate and Bailey's is the BEST!

Okay??? I am positive that my very nice Mormon neighbors were not thrilled with all the drinking on the streets last night. Their kids cringe when they see me drinking a Starbucks.

And two of our Mormon neighbors (one of which is my child's teacher) sat outside with us handing out candy while we were drinking various alcoholic beverages...even with their kids after they got back from Trick Or Treating. Although they will not drink alcohol, they don't begrudge the rest of us from doing so (and nobody was falling down drunk, either).
