Parents Who Drink Alcohol While Taking Their Kids Trick or Treating...

:rotfl: please tell me you're kidding. I sure hope you never TOT in my neighborhood... the kids get candy and the adults get beer and wine:laughing: It's been a tradition since I first moved in 20 years ago:confused3

Where's the raising my hand icon? I was one of the naughty parents with my refillable mug, no less, of white zin. :thumbsup2

7 years ago in our Ohio neighborhood we had beer stations throughout our subdivision. We don't have as close knit a neighborhood here in Southern California.

Okay??? I am positive that my very nice Mormon neighbors were not thrilled with all the drinking on the streets last night. Their kids cringe when they see me drinking a Starbucks.

They have every right to not be thrilled but if they have a problem with their children seeing alcohol because they are against it then they should either lock their children in their homes with the shades drawn, or blindfold them when they go out in public so they don't have to suffer the fate of seeing someone doing something they are against. Oh the horror of it all :rotfl: Its not ridiculous to be against alcohol, its only ridiculous to think that because you are against it, it shouldn't exist in your presence, thats all :)

My dd just called me, and she went with her friend and her dd in Oak Creek WI, and she said the kids got candy and the parents got a shot. She saw lots of staggering going on.

We had trick or treating yesterday in my little town, and it was so cold, kids were begging to go home.

No need to jump all over me... I just thought it was a little out of control out there last night and wondered if anyone else felt the same way.

Were they driving vehicles or walking? If they were walking why the outrage?

I guess I just grew up in a completely different time or something. That never happened in the neighborhood where I grew up. Now it's the norm.

I don't care if people drink, I really don't (as long as they're not driving), but do parents really need to drink when they're watching their children? There's plenty of time for it at home or after the kids are in bed. When your sole attention should be on making sure your kids aren't littering, running out in front of cars, and doing all sorts of other stuff, I kind of expect the parents to be fully alert, which doesn't happen when you've been drinking.

just curious, do you have kids?

Exactly... Thank You.

Drink or Treat!! We do it every year. We have one of those neighborhoods where everyone comes to trick or treat. We adults have as much fun (if not more) than the kids.

We walk the neighborhood with the kids - filling up at friends's houses along the way. We end up back at my house and my friend's house across the street. We don't get "drunk" - but enjoy a few drinks. There are two parents who do not like to drink, so in the event there's an emergency that inolves driving a vehicle - we have two very capable adults. After the kids trick or treat and we drink or treat, we have a huge buffet, the kids trade their candy, play manhunt, watch movies - and we adults get a night to socialize and enjoy each other's company.

Gosh, no different to me than grabbing a margarita or a beer while walking around World Showcase with my kids...:confused3

Anyone who is aghast by this is more than welcome to skip my house...

Wow. I don't have kids but I do know that there is never a time you shouldn't be watching them. If you went by your policy, you would never touch an alcoholic beverage, or be overly tired, or take any medication with side effects, or lie down with a headache, or hold a phone conversation, or watch a TV show etc. for the full 18-years because there is no time that kids don't need watching to the fullest of your capabilities :lmao:

Yes, because I become comatose and completely incapable of parenting after having a glass of Malbec.

LOL - seriously?

My parents always had a drink while we were out trick or treating - in the 70's & 80's. My grandparents talk about having a huge group of friends drinking while their kids TOT in the early 60's.

I don't see it as a new thing, and I don't think it was a big deal that DH poured a beer before hitting the streets last night, either.

Drinking while ToTing must be a regional thing. I live in the South...and I've never seen anyone drink anything alcoholic while taking their kids ToTing (not that I see anything wrong with it).

I wish I'd thought of grabbing a to-go cup of something before heading out with the kids. :goodvibes I'll have to remember that next year.

What bothered me were the parents that were smoking. You can't really keep your second hand smoke to yourself, so don't smoke around my kids.

We were offered, and accepted several beers, shots and spiked apple cider during our trick or treat. Usually, DH takes our rolling cooler and gives out beer to our neighbors, but his back was bothering him last night. Our neighborhood turned the whole thing into a block party. No one got out of control.

I have seen this for years and have actually participated.

It all ended last night with a pizza party - we did shots of bloody brains! A very yummy shot.

oh please.

Children now need to have parental eyes and hands on them 100% of the time or ..... what?

Most kids are quite capable of walking without total and complete parental supervision. If they weren't, how would we ever accomplish such tasks at taking them to the grocery store ... when Mom's attention become more than a little diverted by the boneless breast of chicken sale or pushing the cart out to the car. Heck, even most 2year olds know that you stop at the corner and wait until an adult says "ok to cross." And kids who don't know that are usually in a stroller or wagon.
