Parents w/ kids that watch cartoons

I ban because at the age of 7 he loves to immitate rude noises and repeat things over and over that are not appropriate.
I let him watch Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, but when he kept saying "I like chocolate milk" over and over at very inapropriate times I told him to stop saying it all the time or he would not be allowed to watch it.

If you want Wishbone back, call and ask your local PBS station how to get it back on the air.

I figure SOMEBODY must have done this in our area, because it's on every afternoon at 3 (I think) and I have a ton of episodes saved on TiVo for DS who LOVES Wishbone. I don't mind watching that either, because it takes me back to middle school when I watched it myself.

Obviously, it depends on the age, too. My kids, 7 and 8, are soooo over Dora and Nick Jr. stuff. However, they are way too young, in my opinion for Family Guy (cracks me up). Although it is animated, it is raunchier than a lot of regular tv shows!

I admit it - my 10 and 11 year olds watch Family Guy, and we all watch Simpsons. I'm pretty liberal with the TV.

There is no right or wrong, every family are not the same.
Imagine how boring it would be if we were!
I just know w/ my kids I have to monitor their TV intake, both time and content. Same w/ video games and the computer.
I admit though....some days I am lazy and do not monitor the amount of time they spend.
It gives me a break.
We have been deep cleaning the house this week though, I have been very industrious!

I love Little Bear!
I grew up w/ the books and was pleased as punch when it became a cartoon.

I pretty much just let the kids watch the Disney Channel and Noggin. Nick or Cartoon Network very rarely. They seemed to be geared toward a slightly older crowd than my 3 & 6 year old. The 6 year old does get to watch Spongebob with her grandma - that's their thing!

Charlie and Lola and the Doodlebops drive me insane so, if they are on, the TV is off!

honestly, there are way too many shows to try and name. I'm very picky about what I let my kids watch. One of the biggest problems is that they keep changing shows all the time. So my kids have come to learn our policy, if it's a show that you're not sure of (hasn't receive a yes or no from mom and dad), then you better ask us first.
Sometimes we will start off letting them watch a show, but after seeing what the show is about, we might change our mind. Somebody mentioned the Fairly odd parents. For quite a while my son liked that show, until one day he came to us and told us that he didn't think he should watch it any more, because of the way they made Timmy seem so much smarter than his parents (basically his parents were just a couple of losers). We do talk about why they can or can't watch a certain show, and that usually helps them understand why we say no to certain shows.

Thankfully I have a huge library filled with what I consider the "Golden Oldies". Shows like Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, the Pink Panther, and so on. So if we can't find something on TV to watch, they don't mind sticking in a tape to watch some of the classics.

I don't try to judge other parents on what they permit because I know each parent is different in the way they rear their kids.

You're right... Wishbone IS ON! We just dont have the TV on that much. I should check my facts before I complain. Ooops. Wishbone is very good if you have an imaginative child... my kids actually LEARN from it! (but, do they KNOW they're learning??) I will record the episodes now just in case it goes POOF again as it has over and over through the years.
