Parents w/ kids that watch cartoons

90% of Cartoon Network

The shows are crude, and there's too much emphasis on school being boring, etc. I felt like my kids brain cells were being fried watching it.

Just my opinion, of course.

I have stopped my nephew from watching EE&E, Chowder, and The Fosters(sp). But the biggest one is Billy and Mandy. The first time I caught him watching that I just sat in shock at that show. I couldn't get to the remote fast enough!

My kids only watch the Disney Channel.. I HATE Spongebob... I think its is so stupid... But that is just me.

I HATE EE&E!!

Thanks for providing the opportunity to say that!

I also don't like Fairly Oddparents (makes parents look like idiots), Back to the Barnyard and Tak and the Power of Juju (both too stupid for words), and ICarly and Naked Brothers Band (I hate it when they try to "engineer" mediocre talent into brands and superstars).

Jane

Very good point, engineered talent.:thumbsup2 ::yes::

Most of the Cartoon Network shows are banned here. We watch Nick and Disney, my youngest watches Noggin.

Billy and Mandy is dumb, but I do like Foster's.

spongebob (sorry, i think it's stupid)
fairly oddparents (ditto)
rugrats (that angelica is an obnoxious little potty mouth)
most of the cartoon network stuff (i don't find snot that funny)

DD10 prefers disney channel (kim possible & emperor's new school), pbs kids (cyberchase, maya & miguel & fetch! with ruff ruffman) and boomerang (flinstones, jetsons, scooby doo, batman, etc.). she used to watch jimmy neutron a lot, but they all seem to be reruns now. her new favorite is horseland on koolopolis on sat. mornings.

Don't ban anything in my house either. When DD was 3-4 yrs old she would watch Rugrats at which point we used Angelica as a "learning tool" :rotfl2:

I would like to think at dd's age she has some kind of idea what is appropriate and what isn't. She knows not to watch SouthPark and Family Guy (although I have let her watch a couple w/ me AFTER I've viewed them ;) ) I'm letting her make some of her own choices at this point.

I used parental controls and blocked cartoon network all together. They watch mostly disney channel and nickelodeon now, but what a PP said the "naked brothers band" I don't agree with some of their songs. "I don't want to go to school" and also "long distance relationships will kill you" especially since my dh is long distance for a year and I don't want them getting any negative thoughts in their heads.

Only ones I don't let her watch is South Park and Family Guy.

I don't let mine watch Ed, Ed, and Eddy (or any adult swim cartoons). I don't think we've ever seen Chowder.

I don't let DD watch Family Guy. Then I found out that when she goes to her uncle's house (my brother) he lets his kids and her watch them as a marathon. He has the DVDs. UGH! So I have been keeping her from watching a show that she saw a long time ago.

Cartoon Network is locked here. The only thing I unlock it for is Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry. Doesn't seem to be much on there that is worthwhile. Unfortunately DS7 has found On Demand so I have to figure out how to lock that now too :headache: .

They do watch Nick and Disney.

My kids are older. I used to freak about violent cartoons for my sons. By the time my 2 daughters came around I was just happy if they weren't drawing on the walls with sharpies or playing babershop with scissors. I am happy to report that my oldest son is normal and my girls watch gossip girl with their dad. My kids are easily able to seperate tv with their everyday lives. The only real thing I sheided my kids from after a certain age was the fallling of the twin towers. Not the aftermath but the actual collapse. Which they are now old enough to find on their own on Utube. Whatever you are comfortable with is fine by me but I don't think as a whole what is flashed on a tv screen has that much effect on kids if parents are real involved parenting. I never used to limit how much tv my kids watched, they now have tv's in their room and one has a laptop and a desktop. My kids are some of the most active I know. Unlike mom.

no south park, family guy or ren and stimpy. other than that while i don't ban them from watching it-i prefer that they do not watch the evening news unless dh or i are sitting there and can discuss it with them. my reasoning for this is because i grew up where the zodiac murders took place and i recall watching the news coverage and being very frightened by it.

when dd was just a tiny thing (3 or 4) i was a big discovery health channel fan and would watch all the shows where they showed emergency rooms. i never minded when dd watched them with me because there was no foul language, the did'nt show what caused the injuries and i figured it would'nt do her any harm. flash forward and ds was around 3 so dd would have been about 5, ds gets a huge gash in his foot and we have to take him to the er. dd, ds and i are sitting in the room waiting for the doctor, and ds starts fussing about 'what are they going to do to my foot'-before i could say anything dd starts rattling off 'well, they'll probably check it out first and make sure you have'nt broken any bones-if that checks out they will put a topical anesthic on it followed up by a shot to numb the area-but don't worry brother-you won't feel it cuz the topical will numb it. then they will 'gate' (she meant irrigate:rotfl: ) the cut and maybe do stitches-then you get a sticker and we go home':scared1: the doctor was apparantly just outside the door when dd began her speil and came in with a :woohoo: :woohoo: some shows that you might not think are appropriate for little ones can provide great learning experiences.

I love cartoons, so if my son is watching it, it's because I'm the one who wants to watch it. :lmao:

I don't watch most of what's on Cartoon Network though, because it's trash.Well, except for Foster's. I love Foster's. :thumbsup2

Most of what he watches is on either Qubo (HD) or on regular network television on Saturdays. I like to watch Horseworld (I think that's the name) and used to like WINX Club when that was on. We also watch CakeTV (live action) because it's kind of cute, tbh.

His favorite though, is definately Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We have season passed it on our TiVo because he wants to watch it ALL the time.:faint: He also likes Handy Manny and Bunnytown.

Although a lot of his friends at school are into Dora, that's another one he is not ever allowed to watch. Ever. Because I can't stand the way she seems to be constantly yelling at the top of her little Latina lungs.:headache:

When my brother and I were little, Mom's rule was any cartoon that contained a character that said "I'm going to rule the world", was off limits.

Pretty much anything on Cartoon Network (except Pokemon) and Fairly Oddparents.
