DD took the new SAT in March and the ACT in April. She won't get the SAT scores back until June. She felt like she bombed the SAT. Her ACT scores came back last week. She did ok for taking it cold and she felt pretty good about it right after the test. I think we'll put her in an ACT prep course over the summer. She needs to get her score up by 3 or 4 points to make sure she gets into her first choice school.

Actually, March SAT scores are released May 10th.

She should give the ACT a try. Some kids do better on one test verses the other. DS scored 250 points higher on the ACT than he did on the SAT (when you use the ACT/SAT conversion table for math & verbal). He focused on the ACT after that!

She did take some practice ACTs, but feels more comfortable with the SAT. We are waiting for her scores to come in on the 10th.

It seems like most colleges don't have tours in May or June. Do you think they will have them again over the summer? I know it's better to visit schools when school is actually in session, but we didn't get through their list so now I feel like we won't get to see any until the fall. Hoping we can tour some over the summer (even though it's less than ideal).

They have tours in the summer- we did most of ours in the summer, can't get time to do them while school is in session. I don't want to wait until Fall to finish because by the second month of school here applications start to go in!

They just tend not to have tours during finals. Otherwise, you should be fine. We did lot's of touring during the summers.

We never did get DD17's ACT score in the mail from February- just checked them online. But DD14 took it in April and we got hers in the mail (they got the same score...). Do we need to have the mailed version for any reason or should I just print it out?

I'm excited because this afternoon I got a job offer for DD17 from a former co-worker who now has her own law office. She wants a little office help a few hours a day, a few hours a week, flexible, which is perfect because we have two vacations and she may be chauffeuring her sister to drivers ed too. I was wondering who would want to work around her schedule. This would be no evenings or weekends either, which is sweet for a teen job. Can't wait to tell her. It will certainly beat detassling corn, which was one idea she was considering.

She has also considered trying for an unpaid internship at our local public television station, but she is a bit intimidated by the prospect, and plus it would mean driving an hour each way into the city, which she's not used to. It's one day a week, so might still work out, but she would also miss a week for Disney so we don't know if they would approve of that. She has until Sunday to decide on that.

That's great congratulations! It's not easy for them to find summer jobs that fit their schedules. We are having the same issues here. I told my daughters that they need to have something lined up by the last day of school or else I'm taking the car off the road. Then they will be stuck home with me all summer!

Of course they are being very picky..."I only want to work during the week, I don't want to waitress, I only want to work morning so I have the rest of the day to relax". So frustrating!!!

DD has been a Girl Scout camper for the past 6 summers, the last two summers she was in the counselor in training program. She has decided she really doesn't want to be a counselor and she doesn't want to be a camper so she applied to be part of the kitchen staff for the summer. She is contemplating culinary school and thought this would be good experience. (we agree) So, last week she contacted the camp folks, then sent off a resume, cover letter and application to the council. Yesterday she received an email, they are setting her up for an interview! She is so excited. The job would run the course of about 6 weeks and she would be a resident at the camp as part of the staff for those 6 weeks. She won't make a ton of money but she will be paid and all her room/board will be covered.

As for ACT's, she said she had no idea they could get scores online, then she texted several friends and none of them knew of this option. She was going to investigate further, meanwhile, she continues to stalk the mailbox and is scheduled to take the new SAT this weekend. She opted to add the essay to her ACT and wonders if by doing so, it removed the online results option?

Haven't been on this thread in a while. Is everyone else exhausted from junior year. My 2 DDs (twins) are at an AP test right now (second one they've taken this week) and one DD has another one at noon. Then they have their last regular season softball game right after. Playoffs are next week as well as one more AP test. I cannot wait for June!!!!

So, what kind of schedules are your kids doing next year? All mine need are math and English. But they are also doing some child development certificate program so they will have 4 classes. They want to do 2 every morning and then leave at lunch (called nesting hour from 10:15 to 11:15). But DH and I want them to do all 4 in one day (A day OR B day).The school is pushing them to be there every day but we live 25 minutes from the school so they have to get up at 5:45 to get there by 7am and it would be nice to only have to do that every other day. And then they could work the other days which currently they cannot do due to softball and school.

Um, YES! I have twin daughters as well and I think I'm looking forward to the school year ending just as much as they are! Seems the teachers have really started loading up the work lately. Both have big research papers due. In addition to that, sports and SAT tutoring they are exhausted.

As for next year they are taking pretty tough courses again. PreCalc, English, Psych, Physics. They both dropped Spanish as they did take it for 3 years already. I wish they would just take the 4th year but I think that will be too much.

I wonder if the school has a requirement that they have to be there X amount of days a week in order to meet state requirements for the year. That may be why they can't do all in one day.

They said it's something about being there for homeroom every day. My DS only took 2 classes senior year so he did just go every other day and it worked out . I wish mine would just do that...or I wish they had done summer school and then they could just graduate early. My DH has a job in another state for the past 2 years now and it is tough, the going back and forth. We are waiting for them to graduate so we can relocate there. Sigh...almost there...I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

And my DDs' classes also are loading up on papers and projects recently. Playing softball (a spring sport) is super tough. Almost there!!!!

DD is in the IB program, there is no rest next year. On top of all the various hours she has to accumulate for activities, service and creativity, she has an extended essay to write and has a full class load of upper level classes as well as the first semester she has a "0" period so that she can fit in the state mandated class in economics. The stupid Eco class doesn't fit into the IB schedule so the options were summer school, online or zero period for a semester. She opted to go with zero period.

She has decided to apply to 5 schools so far:
Amherst - This is the dream school
Univ TX-Austin (UT) - her IB diploma should get her in here although its not high on her list as its far to large of a campus for what she wants
Hampshire College in Amherst, MA - This is a choice that we the parents do not support, I refer to this place as the Montessori college. Stupid expensive with non traditional structure.
The Art Institute (Culinary) - AS degree, very expensive
Texas State - She says this is her safety school.

DD has this one track mind, she wants to go Northeast for school. She has no idea what she wants to study, she just wants to live in a quaint place like Amherst and go to school.
