Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Ours isn't until June 8th- we haven't gotten a letter yet to attend (only the kids getting scholarships get letters to attend) but I know for sure she is getting at least two so we will get a letter when they send them.
Ours is May 24th. DD got a letter so we know she'll get something.

We are in the home stretch now. She took her last two AP tests. Prom isn't until June 9th and awards night is June 14. I'm sure it will fly by:(

Anyone have that school, or schools, still sending constant messages that they've extended scholarship offers, enrollment dates, etc? DD really only had one safety school, but I think maybe she cast the net a bit wide on that one. Not attending your school, get over it, let it go. lol

Congrats to everyone on all the end of year awards and activities! I'm still holding onto the fact that there's over a month of school left here, but that's only going to be true for a few more days. Yikes!

And tonight is District Track! Should qualify for State in Distance Medley for sure, hoping she gets to go in one or two more events. Her 4x2 and Sprint Medley have a good chance. 4x4 probably not. Unfortunately DD won't be trying for the open 400. She is ranked first for districts, but she can't do Distance Medley and the 400 back to back. Distance Medley has a good chance of medaling at State so she decided to do that but it was hard for her to give up the dream of qualifying in an individual event. She would have liked to give 400 hurdles a try, but coaches don't want to take her out of the 4x4.

How did it go? It must have been really hard not competing in the 400 when she's ranked so high, but being willing to give that up to do what's best for the team says a lot for her. Do they qualify for state straight out of the district meet there?

We're in the midst of the process here, but it's a long road to get to state, with only the top kids qualifying at each step: league, prelims, finals, masters, and finally state. DD qualified out of league, but she'll face 4 girls who are ranked top 10 in the nation in the next couple of rounds. It's tough living in such a competitive area! Some girls who will be competing at prelims this weekend will learn that in a hurry. They have PR's in the 8' range and opening height will be 10' 6" :scared:

Yikes, that sounds tough! We enjoy competing at the 1A small school level ;). Our school is on the top end for size so it's a pretty sweet spot to be.

DD had a great night last night. She and her relay teammates really peaked and shaved seconds off their bests. She ran the 400 in the sprint medley in 1:00.5-ish, which has been her DREAM to hit a minute flat. They won that event so it is going to State. In our class, there are 10 District meets around the state, and the 1st place winners in each event automatically qualify. Then they also take the 14 fastest times that didn't place first.

Distance medley and 4x2 placed second, so we had to wait until just a few moments ago to see if they qualified on time and they did. So total of 3 events to State for DD and she was super happy to get two of her senior friends to State for the first time. DD has gone all 4 years and hated that they hadn't gotten to go yet.

Our 4x4 had a runner get hurt in the 1500, so we had a last minute substitution who hasn't run a 400 all season and isn't known for being near as fast as the injured runner. However, between the 4 of them they matched their best time, so props to the substitute! That one didn't make it, but we weren't expecting it to.

The injured runner is our 800 runner in the distance medley, so if she isn't better in a week, DD will probably be moved from the 400 to the 800 and she hasn't run those since probably freshman year. They are seeded 4th so hopefully everyone will be okay and they will be in medal contention.

Today was DS's last AP exam and also his last day of classes! He has two days of finals on Mon and Tues, and then three days of graduation stuff, concluding with the ceremony one week from tonight.

Wow! We still have over 6 weeks until graduation. My son has finals in most of his classes even though he took the AP exams, but I think he said that they are all going to be in-class finals instead of during Regents/finals exam weeks. And one or two may be final projects instead of exams. So, we're looking at only a little more than 4 weeks of classes.

Good news! My DD came off the UW waitlist yesterday. It was funny ... we just rode Space Mountain and made the "W" sign with our fingers (for Wisconsin;)) for the photo. Both my DH and I are UW alumni. And now we might have a baby Badger in the family!

She needs to get back to them by Tuesday. She has a hard choice ahead of her. I think that Iowa State is a better fit, but she has to be the one to choose. I'm trying to stay out of it except to tell her to make a pros/cons list. I also offered any help or advice for her but I'm biting my tongue unless she asks for it. She's going to talk to a counselor on Monday to help sort things out.

I'm so happy this stage will finally be done for us in a couple days!

Congrats! Now no matter what happens, it's her choice. :goodvibes

We have 6 weeks too- but they all took their finals and AP exams already! They are watching hidden figures in AP calc now and some other movie in AP Bio- next week in AP Bio they are making waffles and having breakfast in class! My daughter is loving school now, no homework, no studying for regents (seniors don't take regents in June unless they failed them prior) for the first time in many years. In AP art they are free to do any kind of art they want for the rest of the year which they are loving.

DD has her 1st graduation today. She will be awarded her Associates Degree from the local community college this afternoon. Her 2nd graduation (from her high school) is on June 14th. She is finished with all her classes but one. She'll go to HS for that one class three days a week for the next 3 weeks. When she is not in class, she'll be working at an internship at my school. I can't believe today is the beginning of the festivities!

That's amazing. I know you probably mentioned it before, but how was she able to finish 2 years at community college while still in high school? That's quite an accomplishment! Is she actually a transfer student to VT?

Wow - great news! DD is still hoping to come off of a waitlist, but she's not holding her breath. I hope the decision doesn't cause your DD too much stress - it's nice to have choices!

I'm hoping that this will allow her to consider ISU in a more positive manner. I think she really liked it but she said she felt like she was being forced to go there since she not accepted (at the time) to the UW. Somehow the other 4 schools she was admitted to didn't count . I think that she was feeling a bit "dumb" since so many of her high school classmates had been accepted. Now that she's been accepted at the UW, she can open herself up more to ISU and actively choose it. Or ... she'll be our baby Badger. Either one will be fine.

Quick question.... DS18 is my only. Is it the norm for parents to give their kids friends grad gifts?

CONGRATS!!!!!

That is awesome. Good for her.

I was told we don't exchange announcements if they attend the same school. We received a few invitations from kids who attend different schools. We will send a few of those money. And we will give probably only 3 gifts. Those to friends who we are extremely close to. Those will be personalized gifts. (If I ever get them ordered.) LOL

I only did for ones that I was particularly close to or if I was invited (and went) to the party. If just my child went to a friends party, he/she took a card with a small gift.
