Now I really feel like I am behind. I ended up having to move to a new state over the summer due to some economic reasons and thought I was doing alright to have almost all of my CommonApp done (just need to paste my essay and do the college-specific questions) at this point.
Currently, I have three schools I am interested in, though I wish I could have a few more colleges to add to the list. The state is very small, and, because I am paying my own way for college, I want to stay in-state and commute from home.
Two of the schools are community colleges or state colleges that only give me my associate's degree. The community college has a scholarship that will pay all two years of my tuition if I maintain a 2.5 high school GPA (currently have a 4.04) and stay out of trouble; it also has an associate's to bachelor's program with the state university. The state college also has a scholarship opportunity similar to the community college and auto-acceptance that I qualify for, but it's not in a location I like.
The state university is my top school, but I doubt whether I will get in. I meet all the academic requirements and have a stellar GPA, but my standardized test scores are terrible (I am terrible at test taking). My SAT scores fall slightly below the middle 50% range, and my ACT score (no writing *facepalm*) falls right at the average score: a 27 composite.
I am planning on taking the ACT again, because the school only accepts scores that have a writing portion to them. As for my applications, I plan on getting all three done and out by the beginning of January (when the state university application is due January 15).
I know 100% I am going to go for my BSN, but I am also debating to get my master's degree with it. I am interested in becoming a nurse practitioner, and, with the new health care laws, the demand for them will increase.
Sadly, I am going through a bit of an issue with the moving to a new school senior year. I have been trying to get in touch with the AP German teacher at my old school (who has been my German teacher since the seventh grade), and I haven't been able to contact her despite numerous emails since August. My worst fear is that she resigned as a teacher, and I will need to find another teacher to have a recommendation from. I am also concerned the college will see that I have no recommendations from my new school, even though I've only known my teachers for less than two full months, and I question if they would be willing to write me one because of their lack of knowledge about me.
Compared to other students, I feel unintelligent, even though, by the time I have graduated, I would have completed 13 honors classes and 1 AP class and possibly still keep my 4.0+ GPA.
Scarily, I am currently taking AP Chemistry, which has been claimed to be the hardest class in my school and one of the hardest AP classes to take, and I am not failing. I will be happy after I walk out of that exam on May 5th with an acceptance letter to my dream school, a financial aid package that won't cause me to go broke, and Fabio carrying me off to the magical world of college.
