Parents help... Is Gotg too scary for a 6 year old?

It seems like he doesn't like that feeling of just being up in the air.

He probably wouldn’t like GotG at all if this is the case, but you could always try Jumpin’ Jellyfish first to see how he handles mild drops. If that’s a big no, I’d definitely skip GotG until he’s older.

This is a pretty good idea. I will say though that being able to see that you are up high could be a different feeling/sensation than being in GOTG where you can't see how high you are except when the window opens for the picture.

It totally depends on your child. My DD (almost 12 now) started going on ToT at age 4 when she hit the height requirement. She loved it and it has been her favorite ride ever since. My ODD (almost 15) tried it on and off a few times and now she loves it. She is one of those kids though that does require coaxing to go on rides initially and then loves them. That has been her personality regarding rides for a long time. You know your kiddo best. The ride isn't scary or creepy, it's loads of fun with the music and high energy. It will just depend on your child and whether they like drops.

Not to repeat what I'm sure everyone else has said, but it just depends. My 6 yo loved it (and ToT, when she was 5), and my 3yo (tall kids...) loved it too. It's so ridiculous in the ride pics to see my kids totally nonchalant, and my husband and I are freaking out. haha. Somehow I think the younger they are, the more they don't get the fear part of it. It's definitely less creepy and more fun (so kind of distracting from the drops in a way) than ToT.

My 10 YO LOVED the theming, but hated the ride! She loves roller coasters and thrill rides, doesn't like Haunted Mansion and "creepy" rides. I think it was the free-fall feeling of the drops that she didn't like.

It really depends on your kid. My kids rode ToT as soon as they were tall enough, which was around 4 years old. They ride it at least once every trip.

My son rode ToT at 7 and did oaky but said once was enough. By 10 GotG was his favorite attraction. So much depends on the kid at that age.

Obviously, every kid is different. It’s a drop ride. If they don’t like drops they might not like it. But, my 11 year old went on it once and said it it was pretty scary but fun. Went on it again (no coaxing necessary and she declared it’s her favorite ride and not scary at all). A 8 year old student I was talking too at my daughters school told me she thought it’d be super scary but then she went on it and it’s really fun and now it’s her favorite ride. YMMV but the overall feeling is FUN. But, again, it IS a drop ride , sooooo....,

We rode with my 6 yr old son in November we hadnt ridden the ride before and said we would try it once.

We effectively “broke” my son when the ride was over he was just shocked and I had to carry him off crying a bit less than 5 mins later he was fine asking to go again.

Meanwhile my husband was trying to keep his lunch down

It’s not the type of ride we like though

Thank you all for your thoughts/experiences/ideas. This is a harder ride to gauge because an on ride video doesn't quite capture that drop experience! (I've used ride videos for coasters/splash/scary rides to help my son decide what he does and doesn't want to try). So I appreciate all the ideas on other rides to try first and your experiences with how kids reacted. I just really want to avoid going on something we think he will enjoy only to have him scared. Thank you all!

My at the time 5yr old couldn’t wait to ride it. He loved it but said he wouldn’t do it again because there were just to many drops. I think overall it’s cool but it is really scary even for the fearless.

My 8 year old went on with her older brother. Poor thing came off in tears. Definitely too scary for her...but every kid is different. She loves Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder , RSR but won't go on Splash. Not sure if that gives reference.

One of the hard things about this ride is not knowing which variation you'll get, so if the child's first ride is one of the milder songs, things could go really well. But if the first ride is "Born To Be Wild," well... On the bright side, if that one goes well, all the other songs will be a piece of cake.
Oldest had no problem with TOT as soon as he was tall enough and loves GOTG. But he loved challenging himself, even if he didn't really enjoy the ride. He would go on something over and over just to prove that he could, not because he loved it. Youngest didn't enjoy TOT (and wasn't ready at 6) and doesn't like GOTG. Loves Screamin', Soarin', SM, ST, RSR, etc. Just doesn't really care for TOT/GOTG's drops or suspense. I think a lot of it is not knowing which song is coming, and by the time you find out (if it's a variation you don't like), it's too late. As other's have said, each kid is different!

My 3 1/2 year old niece loved it, my 6 1/2 year old daughter hated it! Ha ha, you just never know. :)
