Parents Arrested After Child Found Abandoned Outside Disney Ride

 This makes me so angry!!!

Our kids are older (12 and 9 last year) and I tell you if I can't see one of them I will ask DH "do you have _____ with you?" or "where's _____ I can't see him/her".

I'm with you. Hubby and I do the same with our two. So sad. :sad2:

Come on, all you parents out there, How many times do you look around during your day at WDW and make sure you have all your kids? thousands!

They are liars! I find that story unbelievable.

Sad :sad2:
Kid needs to be taken away from the Family as far as I am concerned.:sad2:

Ok, I have a five yr old son and I'm always lookin around for him when he's at home!!! LOL!!! I can't imagine that once you got on the ride and seen that you don't have your child, you'd get off immediately!! Well, if you were a really good parent, you would've noticed way before then!! Those parents deserve to have that child taken away from them and then maybe they'll realize that what precious life they've had taken away from them

I can't believe a parent, any parent, would not know where there child was for almost 2 hours. While I might understand that at first they each thought the other had her, it had to have been noticed, very soon, that they didn't . How about when they had to say "how many are in your party?" Did they answer 7, and then look around and say, oh no-I mean 6? Come on, give me a break! I would love to be on that jury!

A shame that happened. I expect, from reading the newspaper's account that this might be a classic example of "diffussion of responsibility."

This happens sometimes when several people are involved, each thinking the other is taking care of business. For example, one day at the Magic Kingdom my wife, my son, and his son (my grandchild) and I, were enjoying a day at the park, and took several photos during the day. The four of us were taking turns carrying the stuff we had taken into the park. But, just after we exited the park, we realized that none of us had the camera. Each of us thought someone else was taking care of the camera.

It was an expensive camera, and it was never found.

On all subsequent visits to The World, each member of our party has specific items to be responsible for while visiting a park, and we've never lost anything since.

I know there's a big differance between a camera and a child; but the reason for the loss might have been pretty much the same.

So I guess we all just hope that next time these two idiots go to WDW (or anywhere else for that matter), they decide who's responsible for their little girl before they enter the park? Come on, there is absolutely nothing that can justify this. "I forgot" stops working as an excuse when you turn about 4 years old. I also have to wonder how many other guests walked by this stroller and did nothing about it. Thankfully someone was on the ball there!

Wow, it's wonderful that a guest got involved and perhaps saved that little girl's life.

I thought that, too, until I read the story. They were on the same ride - wouldn't you figure they were in line together? Then you throw in the part where he came out to look for her :confused3 I tend to try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this is WAY beyond that. Then there's always the fact that this is the first word out...

We saw 2 cases simillar to this when we were there Aug 05. DS was only 6 mos so I stayed at the baby center the entire time to keep him cool. Now one day in Epcot there was an 8 yr old that I was speaking to. He had been found by cms and taken to the b.c. He said his parents were in line for Mission Space and he had to potty. They told him to go alone and when he returned they were gone. Hw was at the b.c. fo 6 hours! When I asked the cm about calling CPS he said Disney does not allow them to do this.

Two days later we were at M.K. and there was a lady demanding that she be reimbursed for missing her plane. You see she had dropped her 9 and 6 yr old off at the M.K. She could not afford to go with them so she let them go alone. Now they were not given any money so when the little one went to a cm looking for food they found out they were there w.put parents and were brought to the b.c. The mother was OUTRAGED that the girls were not outside when they were supposed to be so they missed her plane. She expected Disney to reimburse her and yes management was helping her out.

I think these type of situations must happen often at Disney and I think it is a shame they do not report more of these incidents.

OMG! What is wrong with people? :sad2:

(About looking for your child at home) I so understand when it gets really quiet at my house, I'm like "What are you doing?" You just know they are into something.

(About the idiots at the park) I agree they should lose custody of the child but it won't hurt them in any way. If they are willing to do this, then they never cared in the first place.

This just absolutely sickening--how could any parents who love their children do this??? Thank God for the concerned other patron who helped to save that little girl's life!

50 minutes later? How long is POC ride? 10-15 minutes? (much less I'm sure), this means they were waiting in line....weren't they in line together??

Let me tell you, I have two grown children and when they were small until they were in their twenties I made damn sure I knew where they were at all times!

With the addition of Jack Sparrow to the ride and the recent release of the latest POTC film, wait times for the attraction during most of the day is often quite long (no FP either). So the 50 minute period doesn't surprise me. Stroller parking for the attraction is also outside the covered plaza area.

But, that's exactly the point, I know the wait is something like 50 minutes long, the ride itself only being a 10 minutes at most...hence it means this couple was on line together for 50 minutes and they failed to notice their daughter was missing!!!!!

How can you lose a child IN A STROLLER?

Additionally, how could you not know she wasn't there UNTIL AFTER you exit the ride? Sounds like they did not want to take her on the ride and they just left her there.

They are lying.

Unbelievable. I have avoided many rides because its my job as a parent to make sure we are all together at all times - no one goes missing whether they are asleep or not. I am glad they had charges brought against. Thanks to the person who reported the girl you should be given a stay in Cindy's castle!:wizard:

I hate to even think this, but a horrifying thought crosses my mind.. . .

Imagine the headline: "Child Kidnapped at WDW; Parents sue Disney for Millions". Perhaps the parents were hoping for the worst.

(Yes, I know it sounds sick, but unfortunately some unfit parents have done worse than that to their innocent children. :sad1: :sad1: )

I think what makes it worse is that the news says that "When they entered the attraction, the father said he thought his wife had their daughter, while she thought her husband had her.

Shortly afterward, the father went back outside to move the stroller to a designated area but failed to see the little girl, he told deputies.

The parents realized their daughter was missing only after they left the ride."

So that means (at least how I am reading it) is that they were in line, realized that she was not with them while in line, the Dad goes out to find her, doesn't find her and gets back in line and they continue on their merry way to ride POTC.

I don't care how badly I want to ride a ride, if my child is asleep that means that I or my dh will either sit outside with that child or we carry a sleeping child on the ride. And if I'm in line and even if I've made it to the front of the line, if my child needs to use the restroom we will get out of the line, find a restroom and either get back in line or come back to that ride. My oldest ds is six and there is no way that he is going to go anywhere without either me or my dh with him.

Not to minimize this situation at all as there is no excuse...my wife and I are both social workers with children's services and are federal employees. Most people go unaware of this type of behavior yet it happens daily! I see more abuse in a day than most will ever see in a lifetime. However, it goes mostly unreported until something happens like this at "Disney World" or some other attention worthy place in the media's eyes. The truth here is that, God forbid, they are going to find out there is a history of neglect and/or abuse and this situation, horrible as it is, probably saved this girl from a lifetime of problems. The kids will be removed and the parents will have to work a case plan with supervision to ever have these kids back home. Now I know, I will hear flack about splitting up families or something like that, but we are here to protect children from parents who to often don't have any business having kids!
