Parents Arrested After Child Found Abandoned Outside Disney Ride

Something doesn't sound right..

It is very sad regardless of how it happen.

That's pretty harsh, don't you think?

Circa 1977: My family was in Tomorrowland at the drinking fountain. My brother, then 7, got it into his head that he had to go on the Haunted Mansion ride RIGHT NOW! This was in the day that HM was an E ticket ride. He didn't have a ticket. He was lost for almost 3 hours. We had CMs helping us to find him and finally someone's grandmother sat on a bench next to him and started asking questions about where his parents were. He told her the whole story about wanting to go into the HM. She contacted a CM and we were reunited.

Were my parents negligent, no, I don't think so. They just had a rambunctious 7yo boy. He got out of their sight for a second and was gone.

You've painted the picture to be that anyone who loses their child is a bad person. I don't think heart4pooh was a bad parent either.

I DO believe that the Rodrigez's aren't the best parents in the world to leave their baby in a stroller in the sun while they went on rides.

Two completely different things, IMO.

I am not the person you responded to, but I think that is completely different. A normal 7 yr old boy who wanders away and gets lost is different than a little girl left in a stroller with no one looking for her.

This is very sad. Their story doesn't even make sense. The leave the stroller in an undesignated area and walk into the line. Then move the stroller to a desginated area and go ride the ride. The whole time no one notices that the girl is missing? Some 50 minutes AFTER they FIND the girl the parents tell a CM she is missing? Doesn't something seem fishy there?

I saw something very similar when I was in Disney last. I was exiting BTMRR and I had just stepped outside. On my righthand side I see a stroller with a little girl (maybe 3 or 4) sitting inside asleep. I was about to call ahead to DBF (a few steps in front of me) about this because it was very hot that day. Just as I open my mouth a dad was walking up the exit path. He wasn't frantic, he was acting like this is very normal. He was yelling to a boy behind him saying "where did mom leave her?". Then he grabbed the stroller and went off on his merry way. WHAT?! I was too shocked to say anything, which is not normal for me.

There must have been something fishy about the whole thing when the parents told their story to the CMs. Soooo many parents lose their kids in WDW and don't get arrested.

Please people...there is big difference between "Oh my God, where's Johnny!!!!!!:scared1: " and frantically looking for him and engaging the assistance of cast members the moment you realize that Johnny is gone

and

"Do you have Johnny? Neither do I. Does anyone in our group have Johnny? No. Well, he's probably in the stroller. Let's ride POTC and Splash and then we'll look for him 2 hours later".

Hundreds of kids get lost at WDW every year, I am sure. Hundreds of kids don't get lost for 2 hours with their parents doing nothing to look for them...not even notifying a CM. Those were people who didn't want the 3 year old slowing them down on a ride.

As someone who couldn't have kids, these kinds of stories just burn me up.

This is one of the things I'm going to ask God (provided I make it to Heaven). Why on earth are there so many children given to people who do not deserve them, when there are so many great potential parents out there who will never be blessed with kids? I just don't get it.

Agreed. This was not a child that wandered away or bolted. This was a child strapped in a stroller.

DD, I could not agree more. This is sickening. As with you, I could not have children, so when I read about these incidents I want to personally walk up to Jose & Danetta (or whatever their names are) and punch them square in the face. I also believe they intentionally left the kid in the stroller and figured they'd ride some rides while she slept. I'd bet this kind of thing happens a lot more often than we think it does

Sounds like she was left to take a nap while the parents ride....It used to happen a lot (early 80's) with Europeans leaving there kids in strollers while they went into the Main street shops...they just did that back home...but in this day in age people should know better....and while lots of kids get lost at Disney they normally have a frantic parent with a different CM trying to find them (aka to give a time line)....

Did the parents go on two different rides?? It sounded like they were in the same line?? How would they not notice she was gone…

I don't think boomhauer was talking about a situation like this. Your parents were looking for your brother, the people in the news story clearly were not looking for their child.

My theory--the child probably fell asleep in the stroller, they figured, gee if we just leave her here she'll be fine, and went on a bunch of rides.

I totally agree. The parents are idiots, and their story is pathetic, I don't buy it for a minute.

Thats a bunch of BS. We take our 4 kids to parks all the time, sometimes its just myself and dh is not with me. Now maybe Im OCD but do a head count often--even of my older kids who are way big enough to take care of themselves should we get separated.

One time my youngest wandered just a few feet from me at the FP machines at EE. Now its really busy there so it was hard to see him. I got a CM IMMEDIATELY to help me search the area. Luckily I found him right away but we both were crying. It scared him and me! No way in hell would I have not noticed I was missing a kid for a hour or two or gone on any rides!

Absolutely. I don't have kids, but I have gone to Disney with my brother & his family & my sister & her family. (so at least 2 adults with 2-3 kids). We would do a head count every time. Kids didn't want to do some rides? We did a baby swap. I remember sitting with 1 nephew as he slept in a stroller while his parents took his brother on a ride, when he woke up I took him. When I was alone with the kids (for a few hours, to give the parents a chance to ride some adult rides together) we only rode rides all 3 of them wanted to do.

These kinds of stories always make me very angry. I don't understand parents like that. My DD is more precious to us than anything. I can't understand how people would not care to know where their child is for a few hours. I agree with the saying "Would you leave a million dollars unattended in a public place for a few hours?".

Right.

The thought of not know where my child is, even for a few minutes, literally makes me sick to my stomach.

Man oh man, this world really is degrading rapidly. These morons need a little "come-to-Jesus" meeting for sure..perhaps some time rubbing elbows with the detainees at Gitmo? I honestly hope they lose all of their children to DSS/CPS.

Exactly! This wasn't a child who wandered off, ran off, or got accidentally separated. She was INTENTIONALLY left sleeping in a stroller while the parents went off to ride the rides. :sad2:

I'm sure the "intentional" part is why they were arrested. If the story sounds fishy to us, imagine how it must sound to the professionals who deal with abusive parents on a daily basis. I'm sure the CMs saw the difference too - otherwise why would they have contacted the authorities!

I'm right there with you. Our last trip, I missed more than my share of rides because one of the two little ones didn't go for whatever reason. I spent plenty of time on benches. But heck, the rides will be there next time, KWIM?
