Parasailing at CC... how safe?

Have there ever been any parasailing accidents at Castaway Cay? We've never parasailed before and I do think we would like it but just curious before going how safe it is there?

I've never heard of anything. I just went last month for the first time, with my mom who had been elsewhere and she said that the guys were really much more together and careful than the other outfit she did it with (which as in Hawaii, I think).

Keep in mind, accidents at CC would have a pretty negative impact for Disney so would imagine they're very careful about their tour operators.

We loved it and the views were incredible.

Do teens have to be accompanied by parents? I was able to sign my teens up for this, but I'm not sure if it'll get kicked back once we're onboard.

Teens are able to do it on their own without a parent participating as long as one is there when the boat loads (for the paperwork).

Due to a medical emergency, we arrived late to CC, so Disney had to cancel many of excursions. I was able to get our daughters 13 and 15 rescheduled, but not the adults in the group. They had no trouble going without an adult. They loved it and would do it again.

The advantage at Castaway Cay (when it goes as it is frequently cancelled due to winds) is that unlike beaches in or near cities, there are no high-rise buildings to crash into IF something goes wrong. (Unlikely)

If it wasnt safe, Disney wouldnt offer it. No, its not accident proof but you're probably in more danger on the drive to the port than you are while parasailing.

At what time during march did you go? Ours got canceled on march 15.

We were there on March 21. There was ZERO wind that day. Literally no wind. It was odd because the day before was crazy windy and we were originally forecast to have 15-20 mph winds so I was pretty concerned in the days leading up. You just never know. The winds at CC are a total crapshoot.

It is very very safe, they usually have 2 boats out that go in opposite directions so as not to get in each others way and they have a boat patroling so if there are any issues with the parasailing or wave runners they get right over to where the issue is. Probably the only place I would do it.

This was the one thing my daughter was going to brave on our last cruise, but the winds were too great that day and they cancelled. I hope she can do it in the future.

We did it and loved it. They go out a fair way so if there is an issue, there is no hard surface to impact but not so far that they can't send out a boat if there's an issue. If the winds are high, it does get cancelled because the waves get too high for the boats to remain steady. We've had it cancelled three times but we keep trying.

When I watch videos, it looks like they click in the harness so quickly and that when you are up in the air, you could just unhook myself if you wanted. Or are the harness latch things locked? Also trying to figure out how you are kept in the harness because it doesn't have a back to lean on?

I wouldn't say that they are "locked" (like needing a key) but it's all clipped in with caribeaners (sp?) and such. I don't know why you'd want to unhook yourself. It was pretty much the farthest thing from my mind as I enjoyed the peace and beauty that surrounded me.

We did this back in 2011 as our CC excursion and I was surprised how much the wife enjoyed the Parasailing since she is scared of heights. The views of the island and ship when you are parasailing were worth the price of admission.

Never heard of an accident there. I've done it maybe 6 times and it's worth the $$. One of the CMs told us back around 2007 that Disney stopped doing it for a month or so because the contractor who provided the boats and staff could not produce the certificates that Disney wanted to assure that their boat engines and harness rigs and all had been inspected/rebuilt/certified to the standards they demanded.

One of the safest places in the Bahamas to sail...

I obviously wouldn't want to unhook myself but if it's that easy, I just worry that it could come undone some other way
