Paradise Pier vs. HOJO, help for a WDW vet

Hojo is our favorite place to stay when visiting Disneyland. I think you will have a good stay there. I agree with PP who recommended you request Building 1 or 2. For one thing, the beds are larger in those rooms than in the rooms in buildings 3-6.

To the poster who asked about early entry, Hojo is not a Disney-owned property so you don't get extra early entry for staying there, but if you have 3-day or longer non-military tickets you do get your one Disneyland early entry wherever you stay.

I really like the idea of looking at it from a cost per person, per EMH basis.
Since there is only the 5 day hopper available and we will use one day on the day of our arrival, that leaves only 4 possible EMH's. 4 days X 5 adults = 20 EMH's. 1400 div. by 20 = $70 per person per hour!! $350 per morning! :scared1:
That really puts it into perspective. Plus the crowd calenders show low crowds that week, but we all know that can change.
Thanks again everyone! We can't wait to find all the treasures that Disneyland and California Adventure holds!!!

I would highly recommend Bldg 2. If you request Bldg 1, make sure it is a "facing Disney" room, otherwise you could have freeway noise issues.

I too preferred building 2 for quietness and would still happily stay there. Hojo has modified their building 1 freeway side rooms in the last year though for noise reduction and the freeway noise is far less intrusive, not completely absent but much quieter than before. The only rooms they haven't been able to do this with were the 7th floor rooms due to the skylights. So I, personally, have found building 1 an acceptable location during the past year.

Good to know - thanks for the correction.

Whooo Hooo!. So I priced it out, called HOJO and got Premium Rooms, Bld 1, theme park view. 5 nights, 2 rooms including tax $1095 !!! Now I know I still need to add park tickets, but the major savings already has me very happy!:cool1:

Yeah, that seems pretty typical lately. Keep an eye on the prices over the next few months and be sure to call in-house reservations and ask for an adjustment if the rate drops. You might get lucky and be able to save even more!

That is awesome!!! Makes it hard to justify staying onsite when the difference is so huge. Hooray!! :thumbsup2

Hi!
We're planning on our 1st ever trip to Disneyland for May 27-June 3 and we're definitely staying at HoJo's after reading all the positive reviews. I went ahead and booked a kids suite because I've read they book up pretty fast.
Can anyone tell me what floors in Bldg 1 the kids suites are located on?
Also are the "Retro Rates" ever offered for the time period we'll be there?

Thanks so much for your help!!! :thumbsup2

There are two kid suites on each floor of building 1. Building 1 has seven floors. The suites are located on the building's freeway side, and there is one suite on each end of each floor.

Yes, it is possible that the retro rates can be offered for some or all of the nights you will be there. My parents got the rate for the first several days of June a few years ago. Since we can't go at that time of year (school for kids), I don't pay a lot of attention to those dates so don't remember if they were available this year or last. We did get retro rates for our nights when we stayed ten days ago (June 9). You just need to check the rates page frequently. Sometimes the rates are posted and stay available for weeks; other times they are snapped up quickly and disappear within days.

Ut oh! You just opened a whole new can of worms for me to think about! OK here it goes..... I didn't really think about tickets somewhere other than Disney, but if you know of a reliable option that saves some cash, I am really beginning to like this "finding money" exercise.:yay: Tell me more!

So, I obviously do not know how to do quotes properly on this board....can
anyone give me a quick lesson on quoting other posters.....
Yes, I am a grandma trying to learn this newfangled technology........

If you click on the quote button on the lower right of a message that you wish to quote, it will open a new window with something like [ QUOTE ] on either side of the copied message. Then place your cursor after the second [ QUOTE ] and start typing. You can delete some of the words inside the quote, too, just so as you leave the bracket-quote-brackets on either end.

Thanks so much longtimedisneylurker this is great to know. I'll definitely keep a very close eye on the retro rates.

Try Mousesavers.com for a list of where to get discounted park tickets. You can also buy through AAA. Right now they are offering something called the Passport Plus, it's basically the same discount as listed on Disney's website only you dont have to buy it as a package. You can get MM & Mickey's Toontown Morning Madness with AAA Passport Plus.

Keep in mind, if you purchase a package through Disney and select the Hojo as your "good neighbor" hotel- you can also get ALL those perks that come with a disney package. The rate might be very similiar and worth doing in order to get the package benefits.:thumbsup2

AAA prices are exactly the same as DL itself...the difference is you get free parking...funny you said something about booking a pkg...i actually went on there last night and priced some things out and depending upon what time of year you go and how much the rooms are, it doesnt pay to get the pkg...one of the things Ive noticed is when you book a pkg for hojo you get a standard room....for about the same price (doing it separate) you could have a superior room at hojo...for me superior isnt a biggie....one of the biggest perks of the superior room is the fact its usually a park view room and Im never in the room when fireworks are going off so theres no point...id much rather have a deluxe cuz its basically the same kind of room but a little cheaper...for the other perks you get with the pkg currently, refer to post #19:goodvibes
