Which would be best for us to stay in.

I have a prosthetic leg so I like to save most of the walking I have to do for the actual park, although we will have a car so I won't expect to be able to walk from the hotel unless it's do-able.

I'm leaning towards the DL hotel, is this the hotel that has an entrance right in DT Disney, that walks not too bad is it?

Which hotel would you say has better views in a standard non-view room and which hotel has better views if I pay extra and get a view room?

Can the fireworks be seen from your room in either hotel (minus the projections on the castle and tink).

thanks for any advice

I have a question that goes along with this (sorry to hi-jack your thread), but I am sure someone will know. Is there a tram or anything that goes from PP or DLH to the entrance area? These hotels seem further away than the cheaper ones across the street.

Walking from Disneyland to Disneyland Hotel takes about 10 minutes at a brisk pace.

I personally think Paradise Pier is a little closer if you take a shortcut through the Grand Californian.

As far as I know, there's no tram that takes you from any Disney hotel directly to the park entrances. I've been to DLR several times and never saw one. The only tram is from the parking lot.

I found this link on another thread here about the distance subject. I am not sure who posted it, but I thought it was pretty cool and helpful if you want to know the "real" distance from the front step to the park entrance.

Sorry I can't help with the views. We are going for our first stay at DLH in May, if you are going after that I can let you know since we are staying in a standard view there.

The monorail is down completely right now while they are working on Nemo. I am not sure when it is supposed to be back up, or when/if it will be going to back to the DLH. It was on a half trip before it was shut down (from DTD to Tomorrowland).

I would stay at DLH if the walk is the MAIN concern.

Neither is that bad PP back entrance is across a parking lot drive way and your at the corner of DLH. From the front you can walk across the street through the GC and into CA but thats even about the same.

As far a views for the fireworks you can go on the pool deck at PP and really get a great view from there they even pipe in the music sometimes.

yes DLH walks right into DD

well it depends on what your "view" is...for example...I always get the pool view in the Marina tower because I can go out on my teensy tiny balcony and look down at the pool and all the action...the bonita "view" to me would be for the waterfall and of course the Sierra would be either side...one side pool view and also waterfall view and the other would be DD...I would say between PP and DLH I would choose DLH

you know Ive always been in the park during the fireworks so I cant really answer that question...someone else will for sure :goodvibes

The only Disney hotel that has a true entrance "in" DTD is the Grand Californian.

It is the closest hotel to the front gates of DL (maybe a 2 minute walk), and it has it's own private entrance going right into DCA as well, so the walking for you to either park from this hotel would be minimal depending on the location of your room (there's some long hallways in this hotel).

I've heard that some rooms at the GC do have views of the fireworks, but I don't know which rooms.

If you can afford to stay at the GC, then it would be your best option.

If the monorail is operating, then the DLH would be your second best option.

If the monorail is closed, then it's a toss up between the DLH and PP.

Regardless of where you decide to stay, I hope you have a wonderful time! :sunny:

No monorail until Jan. or Feb. Sounds more like Feb. though since it will not reopen until the complete consturction of FInding Nemo in the Sub lagoon. As for views of the fireworks you can stay at all 3 of the towers at Disney hotel. Only you need to not get the pool view rooms. Get the park view, except if you stay in the Bonita tower you need to have a pool view to see the fireworks. Paradise pier make sure you have a park view room. The hotel which is closer of the two to the park enterance is Disneyland Hotel in term of the disneyland main gate. However The closest hotel to a private entry of Disney's California Adventure Park is Paradise Pier. I've stayed at both and actually prefer paradise pier. I've stayed at disney hotel in 1987,88,89,90,91,92,93,94,95,96,2004. I've stayed at paradise pier in 2002,2003,2004.

Whenever I go with my family, we stay at the Grand Californian. However, this May I am planning on driving down with my buddies, so pricing is an issue.

I have never stayed at the Paradise Pier, but from what I've seen of it, it appears to be my favorite of the hotels. Great Californian Beach theme, with the same amenities as the other hotels (I heard the PP pool is better though... :goodvibes )

And, the PP is a lot cheaper than the other Disney hotels. That is worth something... :thumbsup2

I called a week ago and had a cast member tell me that the entrance to DCA from the Paradise Pier has been closed. Can anyone confirm this? Sometimes cast members don't know what they are talking about.

Also, is the monorail closed down entirely now? Or are they still running those one-way half trips?

Yes, it's true that the entrance to DCA from the PPH has been closed, but it's no biggy since you can just walk right across the street, into the GCH, and then use the GCH's private entrace to DCA. (Guests staying at any of the Disney owned hotels can use the GCH's private entrance). :thumbsup2

Sorry - I'm not sure about the monorail. :confused3

Paradise Pier was great. We'd stay there again in a minute. We had a great view of CA from the 9th floor. Walking to GC and go from there to DTD and DL is easy.
