If you sign up in advance for a Paolo brunch are you paying for a particular day or are you able to go on any day?

You book a set time on a set day.

At or after your Palo booking window opens you will see available slots ie 10am Sunday and you then book that slot, subject to availability you may be able to swap it up to three days pre cruise.

Is it worth the extra money? Is the quality much different than the main dining rooms?

It's a must do for me. I enjoy brunch more than dinner too. There are a lot of seafood choices on the buffet along with yummy hot items too. And, the desserts are great (and small so you can try several). I enjoy having a relaxed kid free meal at least once per trip. Have fun!

i don't think that we have missed a Palo Brunch on a cruise. We've been hooked since the first Palo Brunch we partook of. Yes, its that good:tongue:. And worth it. But now that it's $30 per person .... nope, we're still going!!!

Yes! Definitely worth doing.

My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, but my stomach is catching up.

I believe so. It's more than just the quality, it's the experience. The setting is very subdued, even romantic; the servers seem to be the cream of the crop, the chef takes pride in each individual dish (I've talked with several of them), the menu selection is an excellent northern Italian cuisine (for dinner). Adults only (that help keeps it a quiet evening), and a dress code so you have the feeling of a "fancy" dining location. Brunch and dinner are really different experiences, though. They're nothing like each other. I think some prefer brunch because it is more informal and they can sample a lot of different foods, some prefer the dinner because of the elegant experience. They keep raising the price (though in my opinion still reasonable), which tells me it must be popular!

And yes, the quality if different from the main dining rooms. Higher quality raw ingredients, and your meal is individually prepared.

At Palo they are cooking for a few hundred people per night vs the main dining rooms cooking for a few thousand. It makes a big difference in the quality of the food.

I've had brunch on Dream twice (and dinner once).

We're vegetarian so many of the dishes aren't something I'm going to have.

IMO the only thing that's vaguely worth it is the almond croissant.

The small desserts are terrible IMO.

The entree dish I get, the pesto pasta, was good the first time I had it but very boring the second time. And now that I might have developed an allergy to zucchini (still gotta get that test done) that pasta is out, because they have teensy tiny diced up zucchini in it, and that added something nice to the dish.

The muesli is the exact same as what you can get at Windjammer. The fruit you can get at Windjammer.

Seriously, if I could figure out a way to eat $30 worth of that croissant I'd do it, but that might not feel good later on.

I'm vegetarian and I find the selection outstanding. They can create vegan dishes as well. True there are many more meat items, but there are a lot of vegetarian options. Way more than the MDRs. It is really good.

I'm celiac and cannot eat gluten and I LOOOOOOOVE the brunch!! It's crazy good. There's a whole table of things that I cannot have, but it's still amazing.

and that means that there's 2 tables with stuff you mostly can eat along with another that 50-50!!

You've got Great attitude!!! I don't think (well actually KNOW) that I would be miserable with medical restrictions on food.

Thanks. I was diagnosed after the birth of my son, so it's worse because I still remember what my favorite gluten filled foods taste like! Fortunately there are sooo many good gluten substitutes now. Some items we can't even tell. My husband eats gluten and I got a pumpkin pie from a local baker they we couldn't tell was gf. It was sooooooo good! [btw, our last time at Palo- my husband ate an entire plate of bread!]

We prefer the dinner (for the reasons Over50Visits mentions) but definitely enjoyed the brunch! It is pretty much the first thing I book after I do my online check-in!

That was my concern being vegetarian as well.

IMO it also depends what kind of things you like to eat as a vegetarian. At least 50% of the buffet items are vegetarian, I think there are more. There are endless pasta, pizza and egg dishes that can be made and the chef will make you something vegetarian or vegan to your wishes. I've eaten vegan there and that is a bit more limited, but you would not be hungry. If you don't like Italian style antipasti, cheeses, etc then yes it is more limited. But I was stuffed and didn't taste half the things I could have last week. It's very generous dining for the vegetarian. They even made me some tofu (cam because my husband made a joke about how much tofu I eat) and the chef made me more tofu unbidden when we had palo dinner later that week. This was on the wonder last week. My experience in the other ships has been the same.
