Help! I'm paniced, I have spent over a year planning this vacation and now there is a chance of rain on Sunday, the first day of our vacation...I know I may be losing it alittle bit. Any help out there?:( :(

Rain is cerainly not an uncommon occurance, especially after a warm afternoon. Either take some cheap disposable ponchos with you, or buy a Disney poncho. Wear shoes that can take wet weather and dry quickly, like sandals. Then just do your best to ignore the water and enjoy your vacation.

Rain doesn't stop us. take a poncho, enjoy the fact that the crowds and temperature have dropped...

Chances are that it will rain in Florida.

Shock, I know, but just have fun with it! Let your kids run through the puddles (mind they don't splash others). Just put on the rain gear and go! Rain never hurt anyone (except for maybe the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz). I've had trips where it rained every single day. Don't let it stop you or get you down. Just remember: you're in Disney!

Just think, after the rain, you get rainbows. With those, you get some really awesome pictures!

I agree, just let loose and enjoy. One of my best WDW memories is when it came an absolute downpour one day while we were at MK. Everyone was running for shelter, inside the shops, huddling underneath the canopies. My DH and I casually strolled down Main Street through the pouring rain. It was like we had the park to ourself. We were drenched but it was fun and magical. It the hot weather it even felt good!

One Man's Dream: Walt Disney World

One Man's Opinion: Rain at WDW is over-rated.

I spent years "worrying" about rain and charting weather before going. I always thought we'd been lucky. Then I found out we'd seen it at its worst. Unless you're unfortunate enough to get hit by a hurricane, it just isn't that bad.

We find that while there in September (the worst rain I've seen), there is usually a mid-afternoon burst lasting 30 to 45 minutes. It lowers the temperature, and if you have proper raingear (good advice above), you can use it to your advantage. We find whatever ride we're in when it starts, if we're willing to walk in the rain (or sing in the rain!), we've got walkon at the next ride. Note that a few rides (Test Track comes to mind) will not operate in the rain.

We also found an early evening shower most days. Same affect. We had ponchos. I think my shorts got wet. I enjoyed the cooling affect, and inside fifteen minutes after storm, my shorts were dry and I was whining about the heat.

So take all the advice here, and just don't worry about it!

The biggest plus of rain at WDW: There's nothing like a rainbow over Epcot (except maybe a rainbow over MK, AK, or MGM). So when it does rain, don't forget to look for the rainbows!

Pat

Don't let it bother you, just think of it as a cooling off period:) Have a Magical Trip:)

Thank you everyone! You have made me feel a lot better! I am turning my frown to a smiley face:) Countdown counter is wrong, never did fiqure out how to change it...we are leaving this Sunday!!

Don't worry about it! I have a great picture of my 2 1/2 year old dd who had had enough of her poncho and took it off and was riding daddy's shoulders in the rain! She didn't care and neither did we! The rain is great for dropping the temperature, I should know, we always go in July! LOL!

You're leaving Sunday. And I'm in Central PA, where it was 39 degrees this morning.

Ok, now I'M PANICKED!

Some of our best times at DW were in the rain!

Have a great time, Travelingtwin!

I'll be there too! Weather.com says ISOLATED T-Storms with a high of 92. I'm wouldn't worry about it, we've been there the last 3 Mays and the highs were 90 to 95 and even though the forecast had a chance of rain, it never rained one drop. At least with the temps being 90+ it willn't be a miserable cold rain like we experienced last December (with a high temp of 50).

If you are going to Florida, count on it raining at least some on your vacation... that is the MO of Florida and DisneyWorld.

However, don't let it stop you. The parks are less crowded when it rains, which means shorter waits in line. Get yourself one of those fashionable yellow Mickey ponchos, wear sandals and take an umbrella and enjoy yourself.

Actually we find ourselves hoping it will rain a day or 2 while we are there!

Last May I was there from the 1st thru the 12th. In all that time we had 8 drops (I counted) of rain and that was on my last day. Every night the weather forecast said a chance of thunderstorms.

There is always a chance but that's about it. I just went over to weather.com and the 10 days outlook looks wonderful, including Saturday.

Just go with the flow and don't worry about a little liquid sunshine.

I'll echo eeyore0062's comments.

Last fall we visited EPCOT on our arrival day. Got to the park about 4pm and all of the dark storm clouds are already visible in the home movies that we took. Our first stop was Spaceship Earth. By the time we got to the exit, the skies had literally opened up. Torrential downpour.

We spent about two hours dashing between raindrops to get from one building to another in Future World.

By about 6-7pm, the rain stopped and things quickly started to dry up. For the rest of the night, the park was nearly empty. We caught the late TOD parade, and that event was the single most memorable event of our entire stay. There were so few people lined up along the parade route that our 18 MO son was personally greeted by about 1/2 of the performers that passed by us.

After going to a MK parade and seeing people lined up 4 and 5 deep all along the parade route, we know that there will probably never be another parade like that again.

From a practical standpoint, just make sure you are prepared for the rain. If you won't have easy access to a washer/dryer, you might want to consider taking additional clothing and even shoes. We had rain the first 4 days of the trip I mentioned above, and most days it was NOT a quick 30-minute downpour. Fortunately we had a clothes dryer in our room at OKW. We were going through 3 outfits per day due to the rain, and getting into dry clothes was always welcome.

Nobody knows WDW rain better than our family. Since 1990, we haven't had one trip without daily rain. I know, we must bring it with us or something. But it has never stopped us from finding fun. Our last trip we had a few days with non-stop rain and storms. The worst part of it was not being able to get from place to place without getting soggy feet - other than that, we survived nicely. Bring the ponchos, and without a doubt, bring umbrellas! Downpours in Florida can be quite hard, and your little poncho hood doesn't do much for those. An umbrella is a lifesaver, believe me.

Many things at WDW are inside, take advantage of it. If you get a really rainy day, consider Disney Quest - you can spend alot of time in there and stay nice and dry.:D

The only rain you should worry about is the kind that delays your flight TO wdw! Have fun!

I'm from Washington where rain starts in October and ends...oh, wait it doesn't end.

When I lived in the South and every time I visit there it rains and then it goes away. For a person from Washington that is like a miracle. Don't worry about the rain and if anybody is there the last week in July/first week in August and sees a guy walking in the rain wondering why everybody is under shelter that's probably me.

Have fun in the World!

Rain could work to your benefit. Like the others have posted, get some cheap ponchos and wear sandals. For some reason, there are times when rain clears out the parks.

Last June we were at TL during a stormy afternoon. Unfortuately, lightening accompanied the storms so everything closed down. Luckily we had staked out one of the covered picnic areas, so we did have some type of shelter from the rain. Oddly enough, we ended up with about fifteen other people sharing this small space with us. The storms lasted about an hour and a half. We met alot of really nice people from several different parts of the US, and one family from England. Since it was lunch time and we brought our own food, we invited everyone to have sandwiches with us. Turned into quite a party. After the storm passed, we were amazed to find we basically had the water park to ourselves. No waiting in lines for slides. The lagoon was quite desserted. To make my day, the little girl from England returned later that afternoon with a little picture she had colored to thank me for lunch. I will gladly take a little rain any day to have the memories made this day!
