Every number I have heard matches your previous posts for numbers, 60 dead, 1000 confirmed cases. What other numbers are you hearing? How else do you expect them to report, "well, there are 20 million people in Mexico City so there are 20 million unconfirmed cases and 1000 confirmed."?? It sounds to me like the government is being prudent and cautious and limited interaction to slow the spread. I think they are just being proactive and not panicking.
Those are the numbers that I have heard also, but the CDC is reporting very differently, simply because cases have to be "confirmed" before they are listed. http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/investigation.htm
California: 6
Texas: 2
Mexico: 7
The media is telling us over 1000 believed to be infected in Mexico but the CDC can only report the 7 confirmed cases. By the time any new cases are confirmed, it could be a little late in the game. I'm not saying to panic, but as others said, BE PREPARED. Take that extra step, wash hands more closely, be ready with supplies. We should all live that way ever day but it's easy to become lax.
The thing that worries me is that the US is always sooooooooo worried about offending Mexico that I am concerned that attitude will color any decision regarding whether or not to restrict travel to/from Mexico. I have this vision of weeks from now, one out of three Mexicans suffering from swine flu and the US still saying it's not time to restrict travel.
Just how independent is the CDC? (And I ask that in all seriousness.....Does anyone know?
