Panama Planning

WooHoo:cool1: :cool1:! Maybe some in the future for us EBer's!
Yes would be nice!
Andrew, we have been assigned a starboard room going WB. Will we see much of the land, we both hope so?
You have had some good answers already, during the transit, either side can be best, it depends on what lock side left/righ you enter, going to LA, your side will be away from the viewing gallery, for locals and the panama railway, but as said close to lots going on and you will see a lot.

Going from Panama to LA, you will be land side, but it depends on how far out the Magic is if you see it!
Thanks for the info - very helpful. We will certainly go to the presentations on the history of the canal.

How about the rest of the journey being starboard? How close to land are we?
Well the ship will be out from the coast in international waters, it depends how far to if you can see land.
The canal is not very wide so either side of the ship is rather close to land. At the last lock, Mira Flores heading in the WB direction you will see the lovely skyline of Panama City, Panama. Also at the Mira Flores locks is a (I think) a restaurant (this would be on the starboard side for the WB travelers) and there were lots of folks waving and holding up signs.

I think for MAY cruisers (WB)Panama city, the viewing platform will be port side, and coming back in August (EB) will be starboard.

Thanks Andrew. I knew you had chosen a room portside for your cruise so you were facing land.

Thank you Andrew! I got my port/starboard sides mixed up! I went EB in '05 and now have to think of things in the WB mode this time!

Hi yes,

On my 2005 EB cruise I was Starboard side, and it was good, on that cruise I looked out to the Pacific ocean all the way down from LA to Panama, we saw a lot of sea life from our verandah, Dolphin watching was great.

In Panama we were on the correct side for the PC viewing gallery, and the Panama railway, DS is a train watcher and we saw a few good trains very interesting, but we were 'wrong' side for seeing other ships in the PC locks. -we couldn't see the other lane without jumping up on deck, and that would have been nice.

We had a great view of Panama city from 9pm the previous night, as we refueled, and in the morning as we got up,, we saw the PC pilots come on board.

Port side had a view of the land from LA to Panama, it was there now and again in the haze, and also when in Acapulco was land-side and looked directly at the fort. I Hope that history will repeat itself but nothing is guaranteed.

Now for WB, everything is opposite, so Panama city, Panama railway, viewing platform is Port side, I cannot guess what side of the locks the Magic will go in, they can use either anyway, and anytime. But Starboard will be land-side from PC to LAX.

Presume WB will refule at Christobel before the PC, but Bilbao after it is also possible thats where Princess cruises refuel. (and they let you off)

Yes sorry about pointing that out, its funny trying to think about it, there are strange things about the PC, like going East, you actually end up more West at the end of the PC, than the start as most of the time you go North!

(Follow me, dont worry, I am confused!!!!)

AWSOME and WOW - I am so excited....Joining this late so I am reading about the plans for the day.

I wannt do it Allllllll..:woohoo:

Pleasantly surprised. I booked a Cat 11 GTY, and was upgraded to a Cat 9, porthole room, floor #1. Room is midship, and there aren't lots of rooms on that floor, so I am presuming it will be a quiet area. I don't mind stairs!

Congrats as well, and yes not too many rooms on that deck for the public.

Enjoy.

See if this were me I would be up in arms. I have zero Desire to be on Deck 1. I book Deck 7 for a reason. Well I guess if I had a GTY, I could not be that upset, at least I was on board. But if I had a room and then they moved me, I would be angry.

To skinny for me. I don't find her very attractive at all. now if lets say if Diane Kruger was onbaord that would be Awesome:thumbsup2

Some people will feel this but an upgrade is an upgrade, from inside to porthole.

And as you say, on a great cruise, many couldnt get on.

Thanks for seeing it this way. I book a certain cat 11 for a reason, we only do five things in or room and none need, or have the need for a window or a verandah. I book the room I want. If I wanted a different one I would have booked it. Thanks for your understanding Andrew.

I think everyone has their own preferences, and each to their own, whatever CAT room you book you get the same entertainment, the same food, etc.

The Cats are allocated from inside to outside to verandah 12>to 4 then Suite, each person will book to their likes, dislikes and of course budget.

Some will consider a move from inside to porthole on a lower deck isnt an upgrade, some will like it.

The most important thing is to get on the cruise you want.

Personally I like verandah rooms, I can have that within my budget, luckily, some people prefer inside rooms, lower deck rooms, or higher deck.

Depends what you use it for as well, most just crash out in it and sleep and freshen up on the cruise.

Anyway, the final motto is:-

ENJOY!
