I cant look at those pics, just look at how fat my hands were even, you knowm, I really did HATE myself, when you are fat, you get treated like a sub stantard person, I get very upset when I see folks slagged for being fat, it really bugs me.

Not perfect, not thin, but normal and happy:upsidedow
Wow you look fantastic!! Can't wait for the irn bru!!! :)

Hi everybody. Just got back from my lunchtime and did 31 minutes on my wii. The wii fit plus has boxing on it which burns lots of calories and has the step aerobics which are fun. I would like to lose about 40 lbs by the trip but I will be happy if I can get into a size 16 Lol! I am taking Chantix to help quit smoking and I haven't had a cigarette since the first but all I want to do is eat sweets! I figure gaining some pounds to give up the smoking is worth it. I just can't wait for the weather to get better so I can go walk around the park during lunch

Hi All,

Carmen how was your boot camp?

A little back ground on me. I got very sick at the end of 2007, when I finally healed up in Feb of 2008 I decided it was unacceptable for me to be so weak. That's when I dug out my Kathy Smith video, dh made a DVD of it, and I've been doing it three days a week ever since.

I am an early riser, dh is a night owl. I like to get up when my family is still asleep and workout in the living room. DH likes to tinker with the TV/stereo/dvd player set up from time to time. I wake up, and I don't know how to turn on the TV.

That's what happened today. So I worked out while my family was eating breakfast, watching me workout. popcorn::

In a way I think it is good for my children to see me working out and know how important I think it is to stay in shape.

I have been heavy my whole life and when I had my daughter I didn't want her to grow up to be a fat kid like me. So I decided to show her by example. I can't tell her not to eat junk food if I do. I can't say go play and excercise if I am on the couch and I can't tell her not to smoke if I do so she has been my main motivation to change myself. I think it's important for us to set those examples. Good for you and your workouts!! Should we do like a weekly check in on weight status or what does everyone think would be best?

I have never heard of Chantix. I'm very proud of you for quiting, you are being a good example for me to follow.

The last time I quit successfully I chewed on cinnamon sticks. It gave my mouth and hand something to do, and I didn't gain any weight.

Lynne,
Those pictures are amazing!

Chantix is a medicine you take that blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain. They give you that ahhhh a smoke feeling. So the medicine makes it so that when you smoke you are like whatever. It also kills the cravings for them. It works great but I still have that mental urge to smoke. Used to smoking at certain times and so forth so that's been tough to get past but not dealing with the physical side effects of quitting has been a godsend. You actually start taking the pills a week before you quit so you can still smoke and by the end of the week you do stop and it's not that hard. Again you just battle your mind going NOOOOOO!!!! I want to save all the money I spent on smokes and get myself a spa treatment on board!

Lynn - WOW, you look fantastic. WTG for the weight loss and then being able to maintain it!

Workout went well this morning. Legs are sore but that is a good thing!

As far as checking in with results, maybe once a week? Or once a month? I know they say it's good not to weight too often but I still can't help myself to weight every time I go to work out. What do y'all think. I know JenKatt states that perhaps her husband could get us a page on the main website. That would be a good place to keep a chart or something.

I can't stand it when I hear people talk themselves down. You can't change the past, just shape the future.

There is a great quote from the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs that I just love.

"Come on, Steve. We've got a diem to carpe!" :rotfl:

Whenever you start talking yourselves down boot out the inner critic and tell yourself "I've got diem to carpe!"

I want to go parasailing on CC, and zip lining somewhere. I can't do that, or enjoy it as much if I'm gasping for air!

Zip lining, I want to do that so bad! DH and I would do it Costa Rica but we don't want to leave the kids on the boat while we're off on an excursions. That will give us a good excuse to go back one of these days! I know there are a lot of other places to zip line but there is something about zip lining in Costa Rica!

I want to zip line too!! I just worry about weight limits. Also cost! Any clue of what it might cost?

I'm in. Didn know you'd started a thread! I'm in a group on the creative community forum too, so My intro will be what I posted over there.

For those of you who need to indulge in the sweets so you don't binge, try (and I mean it) Vitatops. They are 1 weight watcher point, 100 calories with 6-7 grams of fiber a piece. And the come in amazing flavors like Peanut Butter Fudge, Triple Chocolate Chunk, Double Chocolate Dream, etc. I wind up having 2 a day. A corn one for breakfast with my yogurt and 1 after lunch. It is helping me lay off all the really bad stuff. You can order them online for the best selection, but alot of grocery stores are now carrying them in the freezer section. They aren't cheap, but they are worth it!
Oooooooooe I agree with you in principal, Jen, Absolutely. But don't talk to ME about vitatops. I ate 1/4 of one top and had cramps and the trots so bad it was AWFUL! Just be careful the first time you have one - test a little to make sure you can tolerate what they use instead of sugar. I had the same experience with South Beach chocolate choclate chunk cookies - THE BEST chocolate cookie bar NONE I ever ate. I ATE ONE COOKIE and an hour later - same story. NOT good.

Hear! HEAR!

Here is The rant I posted on the Creative Community Weightloss Thread

After physical therapy in the summer of 2008, I was already working out at the pool 3 days a week, for Fibromyalgia. We'd already upped the vegetable intake, and switched to whole wheat, but the pounds were not budging. I know now, it was a few things, too many treats, too many sweets, too many carbs, over portioning. And I too am an emotional eater.

March 2009. Diagnosed with diabetes. My doc showed me how to finger stick and gave me a printed diet sheet from ADA. I was already eating less than that. My friend, mom of a difficult diabetic (due to a HOST of other physical and mental issues) said, I'll be your coach, you just use the doc for your scripts. She did. She had me sticking myself before and after every meal and WHOA. The simplest things shot my sugar right up - not just sweet stuff, but white potatoes, white rice, pasta, dried beans, all cereal including oatmeal. I discovered a whole apple was too much, but half was ok.

This is no fun, but it's the rest of my life, not a diet. I got a scale and weighed and measured everything I put in my mouth, and wrote it down too. perfection didn't come over night, by any means, and still hasn't. But you know what? "will power" had nothing to do with it. Women are strong - stronger than we know - we HAVE will power. But the food industry is conspiring against us. Anyway, the old lady's on a roll, so bear with me.

Why do I say that? Look at all the ads! They've given us a warped sense of portion size. They advertise MOST heavily all the things that are bad for us - soda pop. beer. Cinnabon. big thick juicy burgers. They have specials on the food channel - this weekend it was 5 hours of the top 100 places to chow down - on ribs, fries, sandwiches, burgers, wings etc - and the portions were big enough to feed a small NATION. This isn't normal, folks!

Even more insideous is high fructose corn syrup. It's like crack for the carb addicted, and it's in EVERYTHING. Try finding a loaf of bread without it. <breathe>

I took my usual recipes and made them and calculated the carbs and calories in each one and divided it by the number of servings. The blood glucose number told the story - if I ate something I shouldn't, it went up and, because I had the notebook I could corollate what I ate with the high number. If it shot my sugar, I stopped eating it. And the weight started to come off.

It's really not that difficult, oddly enough. When I was hungry out of meal time, I had a few almonds or olives. After about a month of carb restriction, I lost the craving and wasn't hungry after meals. My MIND says eat, sometimes, but I have a glass of water and ask it - are you REALLY hungry? Or are you bored, thirsty, frustrated, tired. . . If it says, I"M STARVED! FEED ME!! Then I eat - something I know I CAN eat - meat fish cheese eggs nuts olives veggies (not corn) If it says Look, we haven't had a hot fudge sundae in 6 months and I really want one - I say ok, we'll go to Beaches and cream and have the best one we can get when I get to the world. And I did. I told the guy I need the most perfect 1 scoop hot fudge sundae you can make because I'm diabetic and I'm not supposed to eat it. It was a work of art! And I savored ever single small bite. Oh brother. I really am rolling now. You have permission to go on to the next post. Now, I'm writing this more for me than y'all.

I have to tell you about my gym. It's at the wellness center at Sunnyview hospital. I'm one of the youngest people in my swim group. The people who go there aren't jocks in pursuit of buff bodies. They're stroke patients struggling to regain use of their limbs. They're people post bariatric surgery weighing 300, 400 pounds or more, who were told move it or die. They're elders, trying to maintain their independance for as long as possible. They are my heros, every one of them. There's a 97th birthday party next friday. I hope some day to celebrate MY 97th there.

Goal - I'd like to lose another 45 pounds this year. My doctor said get down to 200. I can do that, for SURE.

I now have a bigger goal. I'm 62 this month. Before I turn 65, I'd like to be off all medication. I'd like to weigh 147 pounds. But even if none of that happens, I *will* be the healthiest me possible when I get to 65.

You guys have a few advantages. You don't have 6 decades of bad habits behind you. You're not 100 pounds over weight. You are young. You have energy and stamina. If you don't just "go on a diet" but learn good habits *NOW* and practice them, you won't ever be where I am at 62. And, if they follow your example, your kids won't either.

The first day of December 2008, I weighed 267 pounds. The last day of December 2009, I weighted 222 pounds (American) I weighed that in October, too, which meant I maintained the loss through 2 back to back cruises, and the holidays. Today, I weigh 219. I would *like* to loose 45 pounds this year. But really, the weighloss is tertiary in imporance to maintaining healthy habits and normal blood glucose.

Here are two photos 1 year apart. I look in the mirror and do not see the difference.

I must be very lucky Linda, I've never had an issue with Vitatops. But I'm not aware that they use anything but sugar in the regular ones. There are sugar free ones, but I've never tried them. I have a "sensitive stomach i.e. IBS" so I can't do a lot of artifical sugars.

It was the 100 calorie ones, Jen. They use something called maltitol or maltinol and it nails me.

Ahhh, I found it: erythritol. I wonder if it is something new to it replacing maltitol?

Hmm. From that description, it would appear to be pretty safe. I tried this food about oh, 6 months ago. I wonder if they changed the recipe lately. . . or if it was just the ingredient in the chocolate ones, which is what I tried. Honestly, though, I'm scared to try again.

Popping in to say a quick Hi and subscribe.

I too am trying to lose the weight. Started the limiting sugar, whole wheat stuff last week and have lost 8 plus pounds already (OK catching a tummy bug from the kids a couple of days ago probably helped contribute to that)

I don't blame you. The erythritol is in the Hungry Girl chocolate ones that I buy. Maybe one day if you're up to it try it again. Might also have just been one that was "off".
