Panama Canal Weight Loss/Weight Maintenance Motivation Group

Before I forget again, I did ask Jeff about adding a section on the webpage for us. He can and will. it willl most likely be a google doc that people can fill in. He's working monorails tonight so when he gets home I'll try and get specifics. He probably won't be able to do it until the end of the week.

My love for red meat is right up there (almost) with chocolate and bread. I did have a whole wheat english muffin for breakfast and found I probably have another bad habit - peanut butter. On bread, toast, celery, apples or a spoon, I am not that fussy.
But lunch was 5 points on WW and I had a whip yogurt.

Now I am heading to the treadmill. Later.

I guess I'm lucky in that I can do w/o red meat most of the time. Sure, I like a good filet or hamburger, but I'm just as happy with chicken or a chicken sandwich.

But, peanut butter, can't do without the stuff! The way I look at it is that it is full of protein and it sticks with you and keeps you filling fuller longer! During my last successful weight loss journey, I ate peanut butter every day either on an English muffin, spread on a graham cracker, or just by the spoon. I just ate it in moderation.

Don't worry about the crusts, we all have our little weaknesses, just keep up the good work everywhere else :) Glad to have you joining me in daily humiliation!
Thank you! I've always heard that keeping a food journal is one of the best things you can do when you're trying to lose weight and that is essentially what we're doing.

Well, I did 45 minutes on the stationary bike. It stated I burned 463 calories but I know how those machines overstate calories burned. I've heard that it does by about 10% so if it does, I'm still happy with that. I did have the resistance up so I feel I got a good cardio workout in. I need to get back to the gym so I can do my weight bearing/strength training exercises. I know that building lean muscle mass will boost my metabolism. I don't do too heavy though as I don't want to be bulky. Plus, weight bearing exercises are good for bone density.

Hope everyone had a happy Monday and I'll check in tomorrow!

I have been trying for about 4 weeks now and have lost 8 pounds so far.
Way to go!!!

I'm not just trying to loose weight, but undo all the bad eating habits. Well not all, I'm not giving up wine, chocolate or really goof baked goods.
Well, we all have to have some little indulgences! I'm with you on the chocolate - I could never give that stuff up!

Jeff is taking me to Victoria and Alberts for our anniversary next month. I am fitting back into one of my formal dresses!
Sounds awesome! Never been but maybe one of these days!

Looking back at today I really need to up the veggies. The lo mein had a bunch and I had a lot of salad, but its not enough. And since I didn't have my normal breakfast (greek yogurt with fruit) I had no fruit. Yeesh, bad food day.
Yeah, I never eat enough veggies. Don't think I had any today except what was in my WW entrees. I did have 3 "cuties" though. Those are the best oranges ever! And sometimes I make myself a smoothie with my Magic Bullet. I use frozen fruit, skim milk and some Splenda and it tastes as good or better than any smoothie I could go buy. So smooth and thick. Yum!!!!

It's time to be honest! Ok, so I think the best way to keep myself motivated and on track is to literally post every thing that goes into my mouth and if/when I exercise every single day. That way when I want to eat the entire tray of brownies I can say to myself, "Do you really want to admit to everyone that you gorged yourself on a tub of brownies? Yeah, probably not." The theory is that will make me decide not to eat it; we will see how it goes! I am also going to post my weight periodically. OK folks, here is day 1 so far, I will most likely post at the end of the evening from now on but thought I would start now for today ad see if anyone else is interested in over-sharing, lol :)

Happy day, all.
You're right about the veggies, I noticed that too.
I normally have a better breakfast, a cup of greek yogurt which is protein packed. It's hard to eat right!

I'm guilty of both!!!! :upsidedow I can't eat eggs. Well, I can eat the white part but the yellow makes me sick so I usually do w/o. I have some turkey bacon in the freezer, guess i need to go get it out. I usually do have skim milk though and that has a little protein. Then, I try to get a snack in with PB mid morning.

I will try try try to eat more veggies. DH loves veggies but he's the only one in the house that eats most veggies. He's always after me to cook more veggies and I will try. I know I need to. :goodvibes

Thanks for pointing those things out. I know they're true and it helps when someone reinforces those things. :goodvibes

We were recommended to start including more protein in DS morning meal. Now he may eat chicken nuggets for breakfast, or perhaps a vegetarian equivalent or even a burger patty.

German breakfasts are sliced meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs.

Just throwing the suggestion out there that you don't need to eat traditional breakfast things for breakfast. Be creative. Find something that you enjoy that fits your chosen eating regime.

Count me in for the food tracking (I do it on WW anyway).
I'm not just trying to loose weight, but undo all the bad eating habits. Well not all, I'm not giving up wine, chocolate or really goof baked goods. So I'm trying to be good everywhere else.

Breakfast:
DD Egg White and Turkey Sausage Flatbread (mmm good BUT 6 points - my normal breakfast is 4 and is much more filling. Jeff was off today and stopped by my office for breakfast).

Snack - VitaTop Golden Corn top (1 point and tasty)

Lunch - Shrimp Lo Mein (Jeff made it Saturday and it's to die for. He tweaked the recipe found in Cook this Not that. It was 5 points. I can type out the recipe if anyone wants it).

Dinner - Salad and 2 slices thin crust pizza. I haven't figured the points out exactly, but I figure it's around 7.

I just got off the Wii doing EA Sports Active. I started the 30 day Challenge tonight. Jeff is taking me to Victoria and Alberts for our anniversary next month. I am fitting back into one of my formal dresses!
I also got a great pedometer. It can go in a pocket and keep accurate track of steps. I can post the link if anyone wants it. It's amazing how sedentary I've gotten.

I am having a snack tonight. A glass of skim milk (8oz) and a vitatop. Looking back at today I really need to up the veggies. The lo mein had a bunch and I had a lot of salad, but its not enough. And since I didn't have my normal breakfast (greek yogurt with fruit) I had no fruit. Yeesh, bad food day.
May I please have the recipe?

Ok ladies, here is todays rundown:

60 calorie jello pudding
salad:lettuce, carrots, .5oz of cheese, 2tbsp light italian dressing, 1/2 pita pocket
100 cal snack- choc covered pretzels
1/3 can tuna, 2tbsp light mayo, 1/2tbsp friend onion pieces
3/4cup carrots w/1 pad butter, dash of brown sugar
100 calorie pb sandwich crackers
3pt WW snack

I also went to Best Buy and bough the wii fit plus dvd :) While I was there I saw that everlast had come out with 3" risers that attach to the bottom of the wii fit board to make it more like an aerobics step! I put them on this afternoon and then did 31 minutes of exercise :) According to wii, I burned 159 calories but I assume I burned more because there is no way to calculate for the extra 3" and I imagine they would cause me to burn more...thoughts?

Hope everyone had a great day, it was/is a snowy one here!

Cheerio,

Holly

p.s. my legs are a-burning!

Sounds like you had a great day Holly. I like the idea of the extension for the Wii Fit Balance Board. And yes, I think you are right about burning more calories :)

Here is my day:
Weight: 142. This is down from 146 about 4 weeks ago. During that time, I exercised off and on and didn't eat that great some of the time. So, I guess okay results with some effort.

Exercise: Went back to 24 Hour Fitness and started out with 35 minutes on the Elliptical. Then, I did 20 minutes of resistance/strength training on my legs, and finished off with 20 minutes on the bike.

Breakfast: Special K with skim milk and a cutie (small orange)
Snack: 2 tsp PB
Lunch: WW entree.
Super: 2 pork ribs, 1 small baked potato w/salt and pepper only, grilled squash. Oh, and 1 small peppermint pattie!

I'm about to head out to take DD to Girl Scouts and will go to the grocery store during her meeting. I plan to pick up some healthy and high protein snacks! Oh, and I was good and we didn't buy one box of GS cookies! I can put down a whole sleeve of thin mints if i don't watch myself! Can you tell, I really like chocolate and mint together :)

I plan on doing the same at 24 Hour tomorrow but to switch to my arms. We'll see.

This is a big problem for me, I don't eat breakfast, and I'm starving by lunch time! And then the bread starts to call me....

Katherine

Today I have a big meeting and I KNOW they are going to have bagels. :scared1: When I am exercising I have the willpower to resist, now that I took some time off - I don't know if I will be able to do it.

GOOD FOR YOU - to the lady who lost 4 pounds! (The old lady's memory is like a thumb tack, sharp but awfully short)

Yesterday

Breakfast
Whole wheat flat with sliced turkey and cheese, salad, melon

Lunch
Salad with chicken, homemade dressing

Dinner
Chicken casserole, left over from Monday, green beans, salad

Snack
Cheese stick

Today, 40 minutes pool, 20 minutes cross trainer, 220. Glad I'm not invested in having rapid weightloss, because it sure isn't. But even at 2 pounds a month, that's still 24 pounds down in a year. . . . which certainly beats 24 pounds UP.

Morning ladies :)

So a question for all you exercise gurus since I know less about it than the average jane...I saw a commercial for a wii dance game (Just Dance) and I have heard that dancing is actually a great way to burn calories, is there any truth to this? It looks fun but I don't wanna waste what little energy I have on a game instead of the wii fit if it's not gonna help me any!

Like I mentioned before I really don't like exercise. It's kind of weird because as a kid (and before I got sick) I was extremely active. I did cheerleading, horeseback riding, gymnastics, colorguard and was generally very active. I don't know if it was just the depression of the weight gain that totally changed my opinion of physical activity or the simple fact that now it can be painful, but either way I have a hard time convincing myself to get off the couch and do something.

Any one have any thoughts about the dancing game or any other things that are fun and still considered exercise? Once the weather gets better my husband gets me off my butt and takes me bike riding (he bought me a bike for my birthday last year ). As good as he is about helping, he is such a sweetie and tells me I look beautiful no matter what...which on one hand is great because he truly means it, but on the other hand makes it hard because I know I could stay this size forever and he wouldn't care...

I can't tell you all how much having you all here to support me means to me...knowing that I have you guys to turn to and to hold me accountable for my actions is really making a difference. I know it's only been a few days but every time i think about going to the kitchen to get a snack I ask myself if I need it because I'm hungry or because I want to snack. If the answer is because I want to snack I ask myself if it is something I would want to admit to eating to you guys :) so...a big thank you to all of you, I really couldn't do it without you! :grouphug:

Cheerio,

Holly

Hi all!!!

DH and and I are back on the WW wagon and are tracking online. We're into week three and I'm already down four pounds.

I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth -- and tons of ways to indulge it without going over on points. I also LOVE 100 Cal packs.

DH and I try to go for a walk on the weekends: it is a mile to and from coffee bean, which makes for a nice workout.

I also bought the Sketchers Shape Ups, which are amazing!

The key is: if you want to eat it -- eat it. Don't deprive yourself of something you love. Have a bagel, just have one and not two. Have pizza, but have one slice and some salad.

Don't deprive yourself of the things you enjoy or whatever diet you are on won't last. :wizard:

Welcome aboard Shoshie!

I totally agree about not depriving yourself. That is why I love WW, it's all about portion control :)

I am a huge fan of the 100 cal snacks :) I have all kinds and just love knowing I can still have my favorite snacks (smartfood, cheez-its, goldfish, etc) without breaking the "bank" so to speak!

Good luck to both you and your husband. Some of us, myself included, are journaling at the end of each day so that we can keep track of what we are eating and give each other pointers. Feel free to join in! :cheer2:

I would think that dancing would burn a lot of calories. We had Aerosmith (love them!) playing the other day and DS and I started dancing. I was holding him and got tired fairly quickly. I put him down and we were still goofin off dancing and after a couple of songs, we were both ready to sit down! I wish I was good at dancing but didn't get that talent!
Look here and perhaps it will help : http://caloriecount.about.com/activities-dancing-ac3 Not for sure how accurate it is but I'm sure it's a good guideline.

What a sweet guy! DH loves me the same no matter what too. I do this for myself because it makes me feel better about myself. In return, I'm happier, and when he sees me happy, it makes him happy.

Thanks Holly! I've been doing the same thing about food. There's things I want to eat but think that I have to put them down! I've never really kept a food journal and thanks to you, I'm doing it. (You were the one who suggested it, right!) :grouphug:

That's right! I made homemade lasagna today. I made a couple modifications: whole wheat pasta and half ground turkey instead of all ground beef or sausage. I will eat a VERY small piece but will also eat a salad. I will decline the bread although I LOVE bread. I usually don't make a salad but thanks to the ladies commenting on the lack of veggies, I made one and I'm going to eat and enjoy it! I also bought some carrots, celery, and cucumbers to snack on. So, another way this thread is helping me out. :goodvibes

I think I will check into the dancing game then, according to the link you provided I could burn up to 400+ calories an hour! That works for me, even at half that amount I would be happy! I love Aerosmith too :) I used to see them every year that they came around. They have some great music to groove to!

He is a sweet guy, I am so lucky to have someone who will love me at any size and still think i am beautiful.

Yes, it was my idea for the journal, and I am glad to have helped :) I have definitely benefited from it. I love salad, so lucky for me I usually get veggies in every day, though I could stand to eat more I am sure. But just seeing it written down and having others point out things that could help me out is invaluable :)

Cheerio,

Holly

We went and saw them last summer. I felt so lucky we got to go because it was in between Steven Tyler's two injuries, the last one which caused the cancellation of the remaining tour. I sure hope they can remain together. I hate it that ST had to go back into rehab :(
