Panama Canal Eastbound Sept. 14, 2013--it'll be WONDER-ful

we're trying to figure it out here as well. Kind of awkward flying into one city and then flying home from another and we are unsure about how to handle the whole Galveston airport issue. Do we fly out from Houston and use Southwest Airlines or is there another airport and do we use another carrier? A little outside my comfort zone since we are used to Port Canaveral and MCO.

I know what you mean! We are flying Southwest into Houston Hobby on 11/23/12. There's another Houston airport - George Bush, but not sure which airlines service this airport. Houston is definitely not as traveler friendly as Orlando!

We are using a private limo service to/from Galveston. For the 10 of us, it was much cheaper than using DCL transport.

We are in the same boat on reservations. I called DCL last week to ask about the change in the iten. I was told that it was a glitch and the original was correct. They told me it would be corrected on the website and my reservation page within 24 hours. One complete week and the same thing is there. Curious.

Don't want to buy airfare from Miami to Detroit if we are going to be in Galveston.

We wanted to do DL before the cruise as well but too many days away from work when the work waits for our return. :( Instead we are going out for Spring Break in order to do the D23 exhibit at the Reagan Museum before it closes. :woohoo:

Lots of people going out of LA have been staying down in San Pedro or Long Beach prior to cruising. We are looking at Hyatt since I have points. There are several hotels in the area with free shuttles to the port.

Just checked the DCL website, and we end our cruise in Galveston. At least for today!

Houston Hobby for SW ... got it.

we will probably look into towncar as well - that's usually what we do at PC / MCO.

thanks for the information!

If Southwest will get you home, I'd recommend flying them from Houston (Hobby airport). It's closer to Galveston.

I'm pretty sure DH won't be able to take any more days off, so we probably will just fly over to LA the night before the cruise. We have Mariott points, and I don't see one close to the pier, so I think we will stay at a Mariott by the airport and take Supershuttle, or Primetime shuttle, or Disney transfers if they aren't too pricey.

Karmel Shuttle is another option, we have had good luck with them. :drive:

Right now Mommaluvsdis, her DH, my DH and I are going out on Wednesday, taking the Supershuttle to the GCV where we hope to spend 3 nights. Then we will take DCL transportation to the ship. We thought about doing the Supershuttle back to the port but DCL picks up the bags at the hotel and delivers them to the stateroom making getting to the ship so much easier.

I was looking at limos.com and got a quote of around $170 for a stretch limo from the airport (John Wayne) to the cruise ship terminal. For our family, seven people, that's not horrible. But a van was even cheaper at $110. Aren't Disney transfers around $35? For our family, it makes sense to arrange private transportation.

Also, I was goofing around on the Disney cruise website, and noticed that some oceanview staterooms were cheaper than our inside rooms! We had two of the secret porthole rooms, but switched to two connecting oceanview rooms on deck 2. So, two secret porthole rooms are now open if anyone was hoping for one.

for those of you who have taken a PC crusie with Disney previosuly, do they have more than one formal and semi-formal night? I assume they also have additional special night dinners as well ....

Yes, we just got off a ship three weeks ago and we're headed to WDW in a month, but I want to start planning for this cruise already! :rotfl2:

When we went in 2008 I believe they had 1 formal and 2 semi-formal but most people didn't bother to dress up for the 2nd semi-formal night.

Good to know - I will wait for someone on the December PC to share information with us, too. My husband and I usually will dress up because we don't get many chances to do so at home ... we cram most of our date nights into vacation because our work schedules are too crazy when we're in the real world.

thanks!

Randomly just saw this; I am on the Dec EBPC and we have 2 formal and 1 semi formal night.

Some of us are following your thread to get tips for our EB in Sept, you are only 3 weeks away :yay:, wish we were that close.

Be sure to post as much as you can during or following your cruise, we sure would like to have any good info before we go. :coffee:
