The wifey and I have been thinking about doing the Panama Canal Cruise next year. Since we are leaving on our cruise this monday to Alaska, we've found that booking while on board usually seems to be the best bet.

So curious to see other people's thoughts of whom have done it?

We went on DCL's Westbound PC in 2014, and thought it was our best cruise ever! Early this year, we took a Princess partial transit cruise and that was good too! On it, we took a land tour of Panama and drove next to one of the new locks in a bus. That perspective caused me to want to cruise through the new locks, so we're doing DCL's Eastbound PC cruise next year.

Both cruise lines had a speaker telling about the canal. We much preferred Captain Puckett's presentations. He's been on DCL.

Always book onboard for the 10% discount on future cruises and onboard credit from DCL.
We did the eastbound PC last year on the Wonder. It was fun.
If you are not sure, just book a placeholder with no dates attached then change the dates when you are sure.

Did the Panama Canal twice. One time on the magic they had better ports back in 08. Than In May this year. Ports are weak but you get two weeks of cruising for about the same price as one week on the fantasy.

Yes, the ports were better, well at least more plentiful, in the past.

But, certainly a cruise worth taking.

Panama Canal is what we are thinking of doing next... Please tell, what did y'all love about it?! :)
We prefer the long cruises. More variety in the menus/shows. More time to just slow down and enjoy the trip. It's also nice to start recognizing the same people (CMs as well as other passengers) around the ship. Much like a small town.

We recently did the Disney PC May 1 - 15. Wonderful cruise. Loved everything about it. They said of the 1,900 passengers on board 1,200 had done the cruise before. I would just add that the 2 weeks flew by quickly. Always something to do or not. Especially enjoyed the PC talks most mornings. And the movies and the food and the weather and the special activities.

We have an amazing cruise group going for the westbound Panama Canal cruise this coming April!! Come and join us!!
Aw thanks for the invite!!!! :goodvibes We were on the EBTA and we loved how small the cruise ship felt and the great sense of community with the other passengers! It's folk like you that makes us want to go Panama Canal!!!

(will keep you posted!;))

^^ thats the same one the wifey and I are thinking of doing. It should be nice she tempted me even more by a few days at disney world to do the dark side challenge (run disney event, I love all the run disney events done almost all of them now even dopey!)

I believe that next year DCL is slated to go through the new locks, so it will be a new experience.

My favourite trip ever!! The longer cruise meant you could relax more and there were more and unique entertainment offerings that they don't offer on the shorter cruises. I also loved that we really got to know the crew (officers) and many of the guests (mostly from our cruise group). Definitely want to do again someday, especially with the new locks.

Will it be possible to cruise the the old locks next year or only the "new"?
It would depend on whether the Wonder had the duck tail added. And speculation is that it will be. With the duck tail, she's too long for the old locks.
